Title: The Story of Randy Bachman’s Washington Mansion (BB content)
Post by: Robbie Mac on October 17, 2021, 09:53:46 AM
Anyone who has ever seen the documentary on Randy Bachman from a few years ago will recognize the story of this mansion that Randy bought and renovated after his windfall of BTO money.  This was where Carl stayed when he and Bachman wrote the songs from KTSA and Ironhorse. it has had quite an interesting history after Bachman’s subsequent divorce and financial woes.

Thanks for this. I remember the Robert W Morgan Radio special where Carl’s interview was taped there. Reference from memory was ‘a long way from California but only a few feet from the Canadian border’. After 40 plus years it’s cool to finally see the property.

Just a couple of things they got incorrect about the two Carl/Randy songs recorded by the Beach Boys...the album versions were freshly-recorded, and don't use elements of the demo tracks recorded at The Barn (the later RB-produced version of "KSTA" from his subsequent band, Union, does)...and the BBs album KTSA came out in '80, not '85.

Not much to add here, but I thought for evereyone who doesn't know the other version of "Keepin' the Summer alive" it would be interesting to hear it.

Union - Keep the Summer Alive

Randy Bachman's take on his 1979 collaboration with Carl Wilson and The Beach Boys, "Keepin' the Summer Alive". This was released on Randy's 1981 album On Strike, recorded by his group Union. I believe the album has had a CD release, but I was only able to find a vinyl rip of this track unfortunately. Still, for those who have been curious as to what this sounds like, here you go!

Not as strong as the BBs version imo. It features a couple of different lyrics though. Thanks to whoever uploaded this.

Is Carl playing on this track?

On a totally different note, I just saw this two days ago:
