Title: 'Worms' and 'One More Day' sea shanty
Post by: mike s on February 12, 2021, 04:28:30 AM
OK so 'Worms' is partly a kind of dark sea shanty - agreed..?

I've just discovered a trad shanty called 'One More Day' that contains the line 'Rock and Roll me over'.  Co-incidence..?

Moreover would that be the origin of the phrase 'rock and roll' - was it nautical slang for the motion of ships in rough seas..?

I think there may be some other origin for the expression Rock and Roll, and it can also involve a bit of back and forth motion.

It'll come to you, what I'm talking about, if you think for a minute.

Heh heh sure - but a boat literally rocks and rolls so I'll take that meaning  ;D
