Title: Whats the deal with the Hondells?
Post by: chewy on August 21, 2020, 11:36:28 PM
Jan and Dean / Sidewalk surfin I get but what is up with the Hondells.  Did they have to ask Brian Wilson to cover that.  Why did they want to do that as their song so bad?

Gary Usher had Brian's permission to record the song. So he started the Hondells-project with the help of Nick Venet, who was staff producer over at Mercury at the time. Little Honda was cut July 27, 1964 at Capitol Records Studio with Gary Usher as session leader and producer

I'd never actually listened to The Hondells' version of Little Honda until just now. It -- how shall I put this? -- sucks.
