Great! Thanks for sharing! What an interesting guy he was (probably still is).
Brian singing and talking about "Barbie" and "What is a young girl made of" in '77.... wow  :o

BTW did Brian ever meet Sinatra?

Wonderful, wonderful interview.

And not to rehash the BBs / J&D argument, but here Brian, when talking about Surfin', says it was influenced by J&D.

Also love hearing about the early Candix tunes.

I could listen to this interview over and over. Brian sounds quite lucid and engaged here.

Love the interview, it seems like into the early 80s he was very talkative in interviews.  I think there is some of it as well during the second Landy period.  When did this stop, in the early - mid 90s?

After Carl died, it seems.

Imagine if he was still this talkative in interviews.

Thank you so much for this.  Really fascinating.  Brian's speaking voice almost sounds like it did in the 60s.  This must have been during the period where he lost some weight, got healthier, and perhaps gained a little of his voice back (thinking about Matchpoint and that tape of the group singing "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring" at the CBS Convention).

Including the one I did with him in 2005.

Apparently there's 30 min. more of this interview.
Somebody on here has it; cough it up!  ;D
The interviewer's life ended poorly, to say the least.  :o

The DJ mentions that the kenny and the cadets record was going for "thousands of dollars"....i googled it and found this, it looks like its worth 100 or 200 now according to this:
https://www.popsike.com/KENNY-and-the-CADETS-BARBIE-RARE-EARLY-BEACH-BOYS-45-ON-RANDY-RECORDS-NM-BEAUTY/252043422135.html

was it really worth "thousands" back in the 70s? or was he exaggerating?

great interview tho. Interesting that he said that "Brian loves you" was approved by the other guys as a title....Of course it was changed, but i didnt know they all approved it originally

It seems like he was doing well under his post-Landy psychologist, Dr. Steve Schwartz until Schwartz died in a rock-climbing accident. I wonder what would have happened if Schwartz had lived.

Very interesting interview! It's a little weird to hear him sound so confident and active if you consider that after Love You, the next BB album of original material to bear a BW production credit would come out 35 years later.

"Thousands" may be exaggerating a little, but it's always been a "high ticket" item amongst collectors. The link you posted is actually an auction of a repro/boot copy. The most recent legit copies sold -on ebay- went for $611
https://www.popsike.com/Kenny-and-The-Cadets-Barbie-RARE-1962-Brian-WilsonBeach-Boys-45rpm-Excellent/292394494452.html
and $1000
https://www.popsike.com/BEACH-BOY-related-Kenny-The-Cadets-45-Randy-Records-NM/292287174017.html
I believe there are around 100 copies of this 45, though there are fewer than 20 of the coloured vinyl pressing, which actually *does* sell for thousands
https://www.popsike.com/RARE-EARLY-BEACH-BOYS-45-Kenny-Cadets-on-Randy-422/200353713965.html

And, yes, fantastic interview, thank you for posting!

this interview was called "a conversation with brian Wilson" and aired on 5/22/77.  sent to radio stations on 4 reel-to-reel tapes. I had those tapes but lost them in the fire. but I had digitalized them before the fire so I still have a copy. presented by dir and "brought to you by scotch tapes and Toyota." your upload is missing the intro.. it was a two hour interview counting commercials. a very nice interview indeed. Dir was a part of the king biscuit flower hour series. some of the oldies here may remember king biscuit flower hour specials and the live shows they use to air.

Yeah, I have it, but edited it out.
To my ears it was boring and uninformative.
I also edited out songs that played between interview segments.
Nothing rare there.
I wanted to pare it down to just the interview.

One quote that's really stuck with me was when Brian was in the midst of explaining all the reasons why he became a recluse for a while.

"I sang my face off."   :lol
