Title: God Only Knows Pentatonix Cover
Post by: Lady Lynda on October 26, 2019, 09:52:02 PM
Just came across this and found it to be an interesting cover of my absolute, all time favorite song of the Beach Boys.  I enjoy listening to Pentatonix occasionally, but for some reason this cover seemed overly produced and lacked a sense of expressiveness.  It was however, a nice attempt at a beautiful song.  I've listened to many covers of God Only Knows, and still, no one can sing it like Carl.

I like what they're getting at, but you're right, it seems overly produced. I was amused at some of the comments though - someone was adamant that this is a Christmas song!

My favorite cover of GOK would have to be the BBC cover from 5 years ago - it seems like it was just yesterday that this came out!

My second favorite is Brian's own version from the What Love Can Do single: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOCnkiBv29U (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOCnkiBv29U)
Brian sounds so darn good singing that song. I'm glad he put out an official studio cover.

Watched a lot of the video but it kept reminding me of this stone cold classic and I had to turn it off:

Well, they somehow managed to make Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" a Christmas song, so maybe this one is next.
