Title: Beach boys and the doobies
Post by: feelintheflows on January 22, 2019, 01:35:11 PM

Are there any pics of the 2 bands together?

Don't know if any photos were taken but IIRC they did appear together onstage singing "Auld Lang Syne" during "New Year's Rockin' Eve" in late November 1974. Video footage exists, apparently.

According to Brian, the Doobie Brothers scared him.

Carl opened for them on their summer 1981 tour

Why yes it does exist...and here it is!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3ByPro4Jao (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3ByPro4Jao)

Various archivists, video techs, and yes...pack rats, have been finding a lot of super-rare open reel video treasures in recent years, most of it not even thought to exist let alone be made available...keep your fingers crossed for more of these once-thought-lost finds to show up out of nowhere in some stash of open-reel video tape.

Like the previous year's New Years Rockin Eve 1974 program and ball drop at midnight, the second one ever and the last one shown on NBC...hosted by George Carlin, with Tower Of Power and Linda Ronstadt among others. It turned up on one of these tape collections no one knew existed except those who originally recorded the programs in the early 70's. Amazing.

Further Beach Boys connection, sort of...The first Rockin New Years (72 into 73) was "hosted" by Three Dog Night.

Too bad the Beach Boys aren't audible. I was hoping for another "O Come All Ye Faithful" moment.

Yes, it's a little chaotic and a free-for-all singalong more or less - Nothing mindblowing, apart from the fact that the footage exists of the bands together. Kind of like those awards show "jam sessions" where you get 20 musicians on the stage playing a blues number or a Chuck Berry tune and it turns into sonic mush instead of a memorable musical moment,

BBs taped the appearance on Nov 26 1974-so it wasn't really New Year's Eve!

Damn! Next you're gonna tell me the Beach Boy's Party album wasn't really a party.
