Oh C’Mon!   2019 is starting out pretty shitty. First we lost Ray Sawyer of Dr. Hook on Dec 28th of all days...

Now Daryl.

Very sad. I had never heard this tidbit before: "A classically trained pianist, Dragon played keyboard for The Beach Boys from 1967-1972, where he was given the nickname "Captain" by lead singer Mike Love due to Dragon's penchant for wearing a captain's hat onstage."

Oh C’Mon!   2019 is starting out pretty shitty. We will miss the captain.

That's a shame.   Completely unrelated but also lost Bob Einstein today, famously known for his alter ego Super Dave Osborne as well as his role as Marty Funkhouser on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Sad day.

I did two long interviews with him and he was very kind about answering every thing I asked, however trivial. All three brothers were very gracious to me and seemed very nice. Sad

This story says his ex Toni cared for him until the end. Classy lady. Also a message from Brian.

I remember hearing Daryl and Toni on an AM radio station, right before "Love Will Keep Us Together" became a hit, 1974.  The guy interviewing them was not a music guy, the station was a "news" station and never even played music.  It was an awkward interview, the guy had no clue about music.  Daryl and Toni talked about Butterscotch Studio (or is it Butterscotch Castle?) and touring with the Beach Boys and releasing their first single, "The Way I Want to Touch You".  I also remember seeing Toni when she was touring as a part of the Beach Boys touring group and thinking "who the hell is THAT?"  I remember seeing Daryl at a Beach Boys concert and having Mike introduce him to the crowd as "Captain Keyboard".  Seeing Daryl on videos like "You Need A Mess of Help to Stand Alone".  He added so much to the touring group.  Daryl was an amazing talent and may he Rest in Peace.

Was Daryl ever offered a spot as an official member of The Beach Boys?

I seem to recall an interview where he mentioned that his lack of singing ability ruled that out.

In the interview I did with him-he told me he was very uncomfortable about taking part in the European photo shoot in 1972 with Blondie and Ricky. He saw The Beach Boys as the original five or six guys and did not think he should be a “beach boy”
