Title: "Dreamer: The Making of Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue" book repressing
Post by: sharpk on August 14, 2018, 09:08:50 AM
Greetings!

I'm the author of "Dreamer: The Making of Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue" book.

I'm grateful for the folks who kindly supported the project and encouraged by the positive feedback/reviews of the book.

I did a very small pressing of the book, 100+ copies, which are now sold out.

I'm planning to do another small pressing of 100 books, however, I need 40+ more commited buyers to proceed.

If you missed out on the book the first go around and can commit to buying a copy, please send me an email: sharpk@aol.com

Info about the book:

http://ken-sharp.com/dennis-wilson/index.html

Many thanks for your kind support.

Guys --

I swear by this book.
An embarrassment of riches.
Don't wait until it's too late and you have to drop $200 on eBay (and that will DEFINITELY be the case sooner than later.)

This s hit is everything you want.

Trust me.
H.

I want to bump this, and I've also posted about this on my "Beach Boys Opinion Page" Facebook page to hopefully get more eyeballs on this.

Ken has also done some great interviews with the guys, including the epic 1999/2000 Goldmine interview with Al Jardine.

Guys:   I have the book!     Get it, you won't regret it.    It is great!

Folks, I also purchased this book, it is phenominal, and worth double or triple the price. Buy it, you'll find nothing like it anywhere, with deep insights into the recording of POB and Dennis too.

Yes - like these guys are all saying - it's THAT good - so if you ain't got it, by all means - GET it (while you can)…!

I've messaged Ken, the price of shipping put me off a little bit last time but we shall see this time!

Me too. The postage to the UK was astronomical but here’s hoping there’s a cheaper method this time.

I need this book in my life!

Can't speak for Ken Sharp, but having sold random stuff on eBay for many years now from the US, international shipping with tracking and insurance is VERY expensive. It's one of those deals where you can send it somewhat cheaper without insurance and/or tracking, but then there's no recourse if it gets lost. You have to send via a more expensive (albeit usually somewhat faster) method, usually like "Global Priority Mail" in order to get tracking and insurance on it via the USPS. I sent a magazine to a guy in Europe one time not too long ago, and the postage was like $38 or something to send it via the only method that allowed tracking and insurance. They literally paid more for shipping than the item.

And, I'm assuming this book is a larger book on the heavier side, so that would probably play a role as well.

Ken, I just sent you an email.  Thanks for the heads up and good luck on hitting your number.

Did Ken get back to you, shipping price to Scotland is the same.  I'll probably bite the bullet and buy it anyway

No he hasn’t yet.
I imagine he’s busy with all things repress but seeing as he started this thread asking for book reservations, hopefully he will find the time sometime soon to come back and give us, at least, some ball park figures, hmmmm........

Ken Sharp still needs about 25 more orders to reprint the book.

Don't screw up like I did the first time around and put off ordering.

As Ken originally posted:

Yes - if you haven't yet ordered, by all means DO so!  This book is nice and thick (hence the higher foreign postage rate), but jam-packed with lengthy quotes & reminisces from Dennis collaborators, band members (both Beach Boys and "Bamboo" - the name he apparently gave his own band for the ill-fated POB tour), record company suits, radio station PDs, friends, ex-wives, POB observers...of notable interest are the many, many thoughts and memories of the late Trisha Campo, who was an observer, and sometimes participant, at most of the POB recording sessions. Also, reproductions of lots of internal CBS memos, promo labels, studio track sheets, AFM contracts...my sessionongraphy...and more! OH, and Alan Boyd's detailed description of the fabled POB tour rehearsal tapes (to me, this alone is worth the price of admission!). A fascinating, must read, folks!  And a great cover, too! :)

Seriously, they need to put out another Dennis set. The POB deluxe reissue was beyond magnificent, so much more than we ever hoped for. And then it has been mostly radio silence for a decade since (apart from a hand full of great Dennis tracks appearing on BB comps).

I agree 1000%. There is still studio material left to release, as well as the rehearsal tapes for the aborted POB tour. I dearly wish that the team that was behind the POB reissue could put their collective heads together and find a way to convince the powers that be to really consider it. This is actually a perfect time to do it

What is the price of the book with shipping costs to the UK?
Cheers

$35 (approx. £27) for postage to U.K.
Not 100% sure of book price but thought I’d seen £25 so just over £50 in total.

Ah, sod it. I’m getting it. You can’t have enough Dennis in your life.

Shame, my bank balance won't allow it.
However, in the unlikely event that someone who possesses a copy and decides they've read it more than enough - bear me in mind!  Most kind  ;D

I’m interested too.

Is it impolite to ask what the book costs? Not shipping but the book itself?
