Summertime’s Calling Me by The Catalinas is one of the masterworks of Carolina beach music. Hopefully it’ll get a lot of new fans from being played on the Sirius XM channel that replaced The Beach Boys one. The funny thing is, much as many famous Christmas songs and records were actually written and cut in summertime, the Catalinas’ song was written in December 1975... during a snowstorm in the Great Smoky Mountains, no less. The waitress (or was she the proprietress?) very kindly checked the title (it was part of a Spotify playlist)--it was a thing called "April" by a band or someone called Beaumont. It's here:
