The Smiley Smile Message Board

Hi everybody, and welcome to The Definite Smiley Smile Message Board's Ranking.

The instructions and rules are as follows:

• Listing a song as your #1 pick will give it 10 points, your #2 pick receives 9 points, #3 receives 8 points, etc.
• You are able to edit your Top 10 list as free as you want, but as the results are getting calculated, your presented version is the one that is getting counted
• You may also include solo perfomances from the members of The Beach Boys (B.Wilson, D.Wilson, C.Wilson, M.Love. A.Jardine, B.Johnston) in your rankings
• Any song that recieves points will be presented in a Google Spreadsheet. This speadsheet will be presented in a month from now, and will also be updated annually.
• Wether it is an alternative mix, demo recording, official album version, single version, live version, etc, of a song, you are able to freely rank your top ten. These different versions of the same songs in your rankings are going to get merged in the Spreadsheet
• If your list presents the same song twice and/or are not a complete Top 10 list, your list are going to be disregarded from the spreadsheet calculations
• Lets keep it simple: Don't comment other people's lists and/or engage in a discussion. You can comment your thoughts about your list in your post though.

I understand that the rules are pretty harsh, and that the point system might be a bit limiting. But this might be a way for us to "officially" present our lists to eachother, making it also possible to have a semi-objective stance on what the Smiley Smile Message Board really thinks is the greatest Beach Boys songs. It's far from perfect, but it is atleast something!

3.  How is it that I didn't have enough room to include, Surf's Up?  Or Only With You ['our' wedding song].  What?!?!?   No Let the Wind Blow or I Know There's an Answer?  Then there's Ol' Betsy.  [It's a ballad ya know], No Go Showboat, River Song, Pacific Coast Highway/Summer's Gone,  Sail On Sailor, All This is That, Forever, Country Air, Our Sweet Love, All Summer Long, Don't Talk, Don't Worry Baby, Keep An Eye on Summer and I'm Waiting For the Day plus I Went to Sleep and Busy Doin' Nothing.  They're all Top 10 as our many of the original top 40/50 hits...but perhaps I take them for granted as they've been played so many times.  Fun Cubed, Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, I Get Around, California Girls, Sloop John B and Wouldn't It Be Nice alongside Darlin', Friends and of course Heroes and Villains...although the Our Prayer/Gee/Heroes and Villains combo seems to be the best way to appreciate the whole '9'.  Oh...I forgot to mention In My Room...albeit a 'B' side but Wow!!!  I also like He Come Down more than you might believe...but it would likely only make my top 11...Just like Long Promised Road, The Trader, I'd Love Just Once to See You,  and Slip on Through, It's About Time...or Maybe Had to Phone Ya.  Oh piss!!!  I forgot to include the original version of Here Comes the Night.   And Sunshine...can't forget Sunshine from Keepin' the Summer Alive.  VERY underated bit of fun.  And their recreations of Hushabye and Why Do Fools Fall in Love are both close to perfect too.   So that's my top 10. :lol

Nice to see some slice-of-life stuff in there. I've only seen Brian and band once (in 2008) but then they performed "ILJOTSY". I never thought I'd ever find myself bellowing "IN THE NUDE!!!" together with a bunch of complete strangers. ;D

It was incredibly difficult to pick only 10 (I had a shortlist of around 40) but Brian's slice-of-life tracks from that period are so inspired.

Ha, I genuinely envy that experience! I saw him on the Pet Sounds tour in 2016, in Edinburgh and in Reykjavik. Edinburgh had a more varied setlist with the likes of "Wake the World" and "Funky Pretty" but Brian was definitely having more fun in Reykjavik. I feel lucky just to have been there!
