Title: Beach Boys Songs at Manson Funeral
Post by: Buckethead on March 20, 2018, 10:18:38 AM
The Beach Boys have the dubious honor of having their songs sung after Charles Manson's funeral:
"The funeral home’s owner, Les Peters, told the Recorder that after the service, which he described as having a hippie vibe, the guests gathered to watch the cremation, then went outside to sing songs by Manson, the Beach Boys and Guns N’ Roses."

"Peters said Manson’s ashes were handed over to Freeman. who said he planned to spread them “free in the air” somewhere"  Do we not get to PISS on them first?

It doesn't specify in the article, but I'm assuming the songs were the Beach Boys and GNR songs which have been attributed to Manson.

This story seems to get quite a bit of press. Unfortunate to have to be linked to Manson in any way.
Was there much (or any) coverage of the bands relationship with Manson at the time of his arrest? Or did it filter out later. Maybe more of a focus on Melcher at the time?

Ok so they sang Cease To Exist/Never Learn Not To Love and Look At Your Game Girl I'm assuming. Nobody was singing 409 or Sweet Child O' Mine  :lol Some people not in the know would get the wrong impression.

Here is an article with more details. "Following his cremation at the funeral home, guests listened to covers of Manson's songs that had been recorded by Guns N' Roses and the Beach Boys...In 1993, Guns N' Roses released "Look at Your Game Girl" as a hidden track on "The Spaghetti Incident?" with Axl Rose saying "Thanks, Chas" at the end. Another Manson song, "Cease to Exist," had been rewritten by Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys as "Never Learn Not to Love" and released as the b-side of 1968's "Bluebirds Over the Mountain" and on 20/20 as a Wilson composition, Manson was so angry that he went to Wilson's house with a loaded gun. Upon learning that Wilson wasn't home, he left a bullet and a message with the housekeeper.
