Post by: Rocker on December 15, 2017, 02:19:25 PM
The title says it all, I guess. There's a new boxset released for John Lee Hooker's 100th birthday. Here's the link and a couple of videos of this great musician.

Saw him on one of his later tours, circa 1991. He sat in a chair, but he still sounded great, was a privilege just to be in the same room as this man.

I had the privilege of seeing Hooker & Heat in LA in 1978. A live album
of the show was released. Opening act was the Chambers Bros.

Oh really?! That's great! I haven't heard the album yet but did read about it. The Hooker'n'Heat studio album is fantastic imo. How was the show in person?

John Lee was awesome. He sat in a chair and played/sung with passion! Sadly, this was post Alan Wilson. The Bear was in fine form vocally and wailed on the blues harp.

The Chambers Brothers did a great rendition of “Time”.

My brother and I had great seats; 7th row center.

"Time" the song of Dennis'?

I believe that the talent of John Lee Hooker is much under appreciated. The man was a giant.

It seems that the teamed up at Carnegie Hall in 1971 as well. This was news to me:

Time was a big hit in the US. 1969? The 11 minute epic version, written by the band, was edited down to a single. They did the extended version when I saw them.

Thanks. I didn't know that song or even the Chamber Brothers, so I was surprised that someone would cover Dennis' "Time". But now it's clear.  :)
