Title: Tommy Keene RIP
Post by: rn57 on November 23, 2017, 05:06:56 PM
Word has just come of the death of Tommy Keene, easily one of the three or four most gifted guitarists in the powerpop genre and an exceptional songwriter as well. At one point in he mid-1980s he looked poised for superstardom but it just didn’t happen. This version of Our Car Club is from his second album, and I seem to remember reading somewhere at the time, maybe in the old Music Connection mag, that Brian dug it. RIP

Oh man.  Only 59.   I like him a lot -- played his comp "The Real Underground"  often back in the day.  He was atop a Village Voice Pazz and Jop poll  in the 80s.  The world wanted hair bands, rap and grunge -- not Power Pop.  Beats me.
