Title: Roger Williams University to Honor The Beach Boys on Sept. 21
Post by: Emdeeh on September 21, 2017, 09:32:21 AM
For Rhode Islands fans, no time given for this event, but it's today:

Press Release:
On Thursday, September 21, 2017, The Beach Boys are being honored by Roger Williams University for a significant historic event in their career -- the band's concert on September 22, 1971 at The Ramada Inn in Portsmouth, RI. The concert was the first-ever appearance of Ricky Faatar and Blondie Chaplin to the band, essentially changing The Beach Boys' recording and live act's line-up into a multi-racial group and shifted the band into an important creative period, of which shortly thereafter Rolling Stone Magazine would name them 'Band of the Year.' On hand will be Grammy Award-winning Beach Boys producer-engineer Rob Fraboni (who helped guide and shape the band's masterpiece 'Holland,' the creative high point of this amazing era for the band) as the guest of honor. Big Noise's Al Gomes and Connie Watrous are helping to produce the event for the university which will unveil plaques at the site of the 1971 concert, now the Baypoint Inn & Conference Center, host a special 'Beach Boys-themed dinner' in the dining hall, and transform the outer reaches of the hall into a beach party for guests.

Location: 144 Anthony Road, Portsmouth, RI 02893, 401-254-7300

Concert at the Ramada Inn?  In 1971?  Seriously WTH, wasn't a pool hall available?  A Motel Six? :-D

Nah, all kidding aside, reminds me that there were sketchy venues long before the casino and county fair dates....
