Title: Blondie Facebook Q&A
Post by: baseball95 on September 03, 2017, 06:45:21 AM
Here's the transcript from a recent Blondie Q&A he did on his Facebook page.

Q: "Where did the name Blondie come from?"

BC: "Name is a nick name of a footballer at the time, Blondie Campbell,I reminded people of him, same football style."

Q: "Have you written material for a new solo album?"

BC: "Solo album
is written, just need to find time to do."

Q: "How bout your Art?
Any new drawings?"

BC: "Art will be launched sometime in September."

Q: "Are you ever going to officially release Fragile Thread? I've had a copy for years and it's amazing."

BC: "Next year is Fragile time."

Q: "Any chance of performing "Leaving This Town" with Brian and Al???"

BC: "leaving this town...may be too long to perform in the set.

Q: "Did you keep in touch with Carl Wilson over the years after you left The Beach Boys?"

BC: "I did not keep in touch with any of those guys until a friend put me in touch with Carl and I started reluctantly to keep in touch. A lot of skeletons."

Q: "Where can I find a recording of 52 Letters?"

BC: "Next year when Fragile Thread gets officially released."

Q: "What's your fave song to perform live?"

BC: "feel flows and wild honey"

Q: "How did you learn to play guitar like that?"

BC: "Don't know, I started at 12, I'm 66 now, maybe I just got used to being one with it."

Q: "What contemporary artist would you like to work?"

BC: "Jack White. Maybe the Flames will do something new now and call it contemporary,ha, but there are so many whoever likes to groove, you know African Roots, and melodic."

Q: "Will there be a Flame reunion in the future Blondie?"

BC: "There will be,it depends on timing as we are all working, I will say yes."

Q: "Any truth to the rumors of an unreleased follow-up to the Flame album on Brother Records?"

BC: "If we can get Brother Records to get off the dime."

Q: "Can you give us a music recommendation? Like a favorite album or artist that we might not have heard of? Thanks!"

BC: "Ronnie Madonsella"

Q: "Hi Blondie, is a live album planned?"

BC: "No live album planned."

Q: "What's been your best memory so far from the Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour?"

BC: "I loved playing at the Montreux festival."

Q: "Hey Blondie, what was the first song you ever wrote?"

BC: "See The Light, 1st song I wrote."

Q: "Hi Blondie, where are your favorite places in the world to play?"

BC: "Always good to play in New York."

Q: "What year is the Les Paul you play?"

BC: "1968 Les Paul

Q: "Do you have a personal favorite memory of when you were a Beach Boy? You rock man!"

BC: "Doing the original track of Sailor with Carl and Ricky in Brian's house. Carl on Rhodes, I'm on Fender Precision and Ricky on Ludwig or Rodgers. Thank you."

Thanks! Blondie Chaplin

Sounds like great Q & A.

It's always good to hear beach boy release unreleased stuff.

Interesting how Blondie mentions doing "Sail on, Sailor" at Brian's house, even though I'm pretty sure it's said that it was done at Village Recorders. Stephen Desper did mention that he did a version (presumably at Brian's house) that sounded suspiciously similar.

Now it is interesting to note that Blondie didn't mention Brian performing on this version, but it makes you wonder.

Didn't know Blondie's Facebook user. Should've asked the question.

I wonder what are the skeletons he referred to in relation to Carl?

I wonder what are the skeletons he referred to in relation to Carl?

I interpreted it as "skeletons" with the band, not Carl in particular.

He answered some more questions today but can't forward on my device. Nice comment about Dennis, and funny comment about Brian. Said he'd continue to answer questions.

I was wondering that too, but I'm not sure that the response was aimed specifically at Carl after re-reading it. The fact that he referred to the band as "any of those guys" and spoke about Carl during his favorite memory may indicate that he had a falling out with the band, or some members of the band, but not necessarily Carl.

Blondie did join the group at a show in the mid 1990's, so his bad feelings regarding the band couldn't have been that bad.

Twenty-year gap...yeah, it could have been "that bad"  :o

MORE fan questions, answered by Blondie Chaplin.

1) What is your practice routine when not touring?

BC: "I put on the local classical station and listen. Play a little acoustic and fiddle with the Paul. I'm awake early."

2) Any plans to do another solo album?

BC: "working on solo album now,it took a little time as the touring hammers into your solo brain time. "

3) Hi Blondie...For you what was the highlight of the tour ?

BC: "I guess, it's when Brian introduces me , I never know what he is going to say, ha."

4) Hey Blondie. Nick here from South Africa. I saw a little documentary recently on Dennis Wilson and in it you were interviewed and spoke fondly of him. Were you quite close to Dennis?

BC: "Yeah a good guy. The real surfer, miss his candor, straight up. Saw his son the other day. It's like looking at Dennis. Good lad."

5) Are you considering a tour to south america with Brian?

BC: "Would love to, but nothing in the works. "

Thank you, BC

Stay tuned for last batch of questions tomorrow.

EVEN MORE fan questions...

6) Blondie, will you continue touring with Brian?

BC: "Have no idea what's in the works, I'm keen if he is to take a walk about & look around again."

7) Do you think you can do Funky Pretty when you play radio city music hall this month? It would really make me so happy!

BC: " Don't know if that's in the cards for New York , it's up to Brian and the vibe at the time."

8) And when you were with The Beach Boys did you guys start working on an album to follow up Holland with at all?

BC: " No, things seemed LEAN after that, my time."

9) Tell us a Dennis Wilson story that we haven't heard before.

BC: "WHAT??? you want Dennis to scold me in my dreams, Ha...Those uh, tend to be private,ha, I will at some point."

10) Any recent tour stories or fave memories?

BC: "Driving through the English countryside looking at the green, talking about the cows and sheep with Brian, relaxing on the move."

Thank you, BC.

I was at the show in the mid-nineties at the old Garden State Arts Center in Holmdel New Jersey when Blondie came out and perform Sail on Sailor. He hugged Carl and they walk off stage arm and arm.

Has Blondie EVER spoken about Mike Love, or any of the Love brothers for that matter, either positively or negatively, whatsoever, in modern interviews? Seemingly there is only one guy in the band who isn't mentioned by Blondie at all, so I'm guessing that this omission may not be a coincidence when it comes to the skeletons that are spoken of.

For that matter, has Mike ever spoken of Blondie in any interview whatsoever?

This is from Blondie's Facebook page a few weeks back

Excerpt from interview of Mike Love before he hit the stage in Asbury Park, NJ:

Question/Comment:"Also, Blondie Chaplin, who sings one of my favorite underappreciated Beach Boy gems, 'Sail On Sailor'.

Mike Love: "Absolutely! And Ricky Fataar, who’s played drums, guitar and sang for years afterwards with Bonnie Raitt, was in our group too. He and Blondie were in the band at the same time, during (The Beach Boys 1973 album) Holland. That was pretty awesome."

Not much but it's something I guess

damn..I wish I would've known about this. I would have loved to ask him about his time with Rick Danko/Paul Butterfield.

I heard an audio interview with Blondie. It may be on youtube. The interviewer brought up Mike Love's Beach Boys saying it was the worst to Brian and Als groups at the time. Blondie laughed and said,"why am I not surprised?!" Off the top of my head.

If i remember right Blondie had a relative that died and  he wanted to go to funeral and wasnt aloud to go..  By one of the Love brothers.  Things got worse and Blondie got in an argument later on in tour and was threatned and the " N " word was used so he quit the band.. None of BB band was involved in incident.. Blondie got a RAW deal.
