Title: Album Covers - Similar?
Post by: Lonely Summer on August 03, 2017, 12:45:40 PM
Okay, I've had the Beach Boys 1967 Sunshine Tomorrow sitting on top of my cd player for a couple weeks - been playing it a lot; but the cover art sure reminds me of The Beach Boys 1985. Anyone else see the similarity? (And yes, I know what the 1967 cover art is based on). Are there other BB's album covers that strike you as similar?

I can see that, with the white cover over a picture with a cutout revealing the picture behind the white canvass.

The illustrations by Keith McConnell on Endless Summer, Spirit Of America and Sunshine Dream all have that sorta psychedelic Schoolhouse Rock lookin' vibe. Does anybody know if he did any other album covers?

I get Lonely Summer's point. Both albums have text filled with an image, set in a white background.

Would be cool if the next archive release was a stripped down version of the 1985 album. Remove the synths and put Brian's Baldwin organ in there, some acoustic guitars....there are some good songs on that album begging to be released in more organic versions.

Yeah, probably. It's Gettin' Late, Where I Belong, Getcha Back and It's Just a Matter of Time would really benefit from the stripped down approach. And we could have a second disc of Male Ego session outtakes.  :afro

Could you explain what's "Schoolhouse Rock"? Curious.

Schoolhouse Rock was an American interstitial programming series of animated musical educational short films that aired during Saturday mornings in the 70s and early 80s. The topics covered included grammar, science, economics, history, mathematics, and civics.
