your replies remind me of my personal opinion: BW is the greatest impressionist painter in all of pop music. Small, personal letters from him mean so much to me - he is sort of an everyman, in the literary sense. No bragging about big achievements in our quite insane society. VDP remarked that SMiLE 2004 for him was like a wonderful collection of beautiful post stamps. He is right about this. Is there any other song that captures the experience of lying around on a serene summer day, nodding off while you half-listen to the soft ambient noises coming through an open window? Brian's lyrics can be clunky ( "a musical song"), but he's but one of the few writers trying to capture the small, mundane, yet numinous moments that make up a quiet day.
