Title: Favorite Lead Vocals by Al Jardine
Post by: Wata on May 24, 2017, 09:06:33 PM
Hi, everyone. Here's another poll on lead vocals by Al. Which are your favorites?

Looking forward to seeing your opinions.

Again, thanks to RangeRover for the thread idea.

"I Know There's An Answer" wouldn't be cool without Al's vocals. Never liked Brian's voice here & Mike sings very short to care. Smb. - the OP? - picked "Then I Kissed Her" - great choice! I really hate girl group sound, Al-sung version is definitive. Ditto "The Times They Are A-Changin'" about which many complain but they don't do it in regards Al's performance but the "party" noises. So they must've liked it. "Lady Lynda" showcased his mellowing. "The TM Song" - Al at his grooviest. :3d

Can "Runaway", "Out In The Country", "Lady Liberty", "On Broadway" be added?

Slight dilemma here. My choice would be "Tell Me Why"----from NPP. Whereas the "Tell Me Why" on the list is clearly from Party!.

Al's entry on the BW song brings tears to my eyes. A bit like when Freddie takes over from Brian May on "Who Wants To Live Forever"...

Duh. This is BBs list. Solo works don't count, don't you see? Isn't there Al vocal you like in BBs?

I don't see BB anywhere. Still, if it makes you happy I'll vote for the second track on side two of Surf's Up, my favourite BB album. :=)

"Help Me Rhonda" is No.1 due to Al's terrific lead vocal! :3d

Just one vote?! I wish we could have 4 or 5, or something, this is pretty much impossible  :P

I voted for the SDSN version of Rhonda, it's the most no-brainery one.

My other choices would be:

Cotton Fields (20/20)
Take A Load Off Your Feet
Pitter Patter
Loop De Loop
From There to Back Again

c'mon Watamushi!! how could you not remember everything Al has sung? (hahaha!)
you are great at these, keep up your great work.  I love your polls.
they are fresh, new and exciting.
well done my friend.
Al has done some wonderful vocals that are hard to dismiss, but I did
vote for 'then I kissed' her'.  I can't hear in my mind anybody else singing it.
kind of like Mike singin 'California Girls' or Carl on 'God Only Knows'.
Alan owns this.

Then I Kissed Her is great.

My favorite Al vocals are from concerts when he sang H & V.

Yes indeed but to be fair, this thread is MY idea. :police:

That said, you're very right in this bit:

Happy to see some fans appreciate "Then I Kissed Her" by Al, NOT the boring girl group stuff. He DOES own it. :3d

Went with Lady Lynda, though isn't Make It Big a Carl song?

"Make It Big" features Carl, Mike, Al & Brian. Since Al sings there, "Make It Big" counts as "vocals by Al Jardine".

I screwed up my vote. I voted for Lady Lynda and then instantly remembered From There To Back Again.

For this one, it's impossible.
