Title: "One on One with Mike Love"
Post by: Bittersweet-Insanity on April 20, 2017, 01:37:41 AM
As Mike Love prepares for a journey across the pond with the “Wild Honey Tour” to the UK and Europe, he will be talking to Andrew G. Doe, one on one. The interview will comprise from a collection of questions submitted to Pet Sounds Forum, and other Beach Boy related message boards, from the U.K. and European fans. The deadline for submissions is April 23 and the questions may cover any topic, but a focus on the relationship between the band and the British fans is anticipated. Join us by posting your questions @petsoundsforum.com  ;)

:lol

Edit...I thought this was a joke :lol I guess someone actually thought this was a good idea? For starters: "Mike, why isn't Andrew collecting questions for this interview from the Vibe Room forum?" "When you mocked Brian's supposed use of autotune did you know that you'd be using this feature (in the most unprofessional way) yourself within months?" "As a followup to that question, just how does someone make autotune sound that fucking terrible?" "Will you ever get a decent PR guy? Or would a PR team be more suitable?"

Can someone ask Mike about his biggest regret in life?...I really want a rundown of Brian's problems with a few anecdotes about the brothers' drug use thrown in. Maybe, since his good buddy Andrew is supplying the questions, Mike could actually elaborate on what the hell he means when he says Brian is controlled and handled - though I'm sure the two of them could go on for hours about their irrational annoyance of Brian's wife...Better leave the interview to an actual professional.

Regardless of the questions, Mike will go for the default answers. In no particular order. (Spot the odd one out  >:D)

My cousins made unfortunate lifestyle choices and used drugs.
It was all my Uncle Murrys fault.
The fans certainly enjoyed 2012.
Landy was the start, now there are other parties.
My good friend Bill O'Reilly.
He's doing his shows, we do ours.
I was in India with the Beatles you know!
I came up with the 'Good, good, good vibrations' and used artistic licence for'excitations'.
In my book, 'My Life As A Beach Boy' I do in fact talk about Manson.
I wrote a song dedicated to George Harrison.
We did (insert number here) shows last year.
Audience age range from 8 to 80.
Tony Bennett is still going strong at 90!

I'm disappointed that this won't be a Mike and AGD cover of the Hall & Oates hit.

I did. Hope he will pick yours up :)

Edit: Sorry for not adding your name check on the post there. If you want me to, I will add it.

Ok, let me bring this back on topic...I mean, this whole thing is pretty silly, as Love getting interviewed by Andy Doe is like Chuck D getting interviewed by Flava Flav, but I'll play along...

here are the questions

1) Which was more emotionally and artistically fulfilling...performing at Wembley Stadium for C50 or the Sea World gig later that year?
2) What in hell was up with the passage in your book mentioning "autotune units" being attached during the C50 shows? You ARE aware that autotune is software, as opposed to hardware, right?
3)Boxers or briefs?
4) If your goal is to show the world that you are as artistically important as Brian to the band's legacy, why not perform some of the songs that you wrote on your own like Big Sur (which is excellent)?
5)When did Doe enter your employ?
6) When exactly did Foskett enter your employ? We already know it was at least 5 months before it was announced. Would be fun to see Andy ask that question, being that he already knows the answer
7) Any lyrics you wish you could go back and re-do?
8) Favorite songs NOT in the "fun in the sun" era?
9)How can you be a Trump supporter while still being an environmentalist?
10) What is the one non BB song you wish you had co-written?

Hi Mike, what sort of relationship do you think the UK fans have with your song WRINKLES?
Hi Mike, do you ever picture the band resurrecting WRINKLES for the live show?
Hi Mike, did you try submitting your song WRINKLES to be used during the closing credits of Love & Mercy?  I think it would have merited consideration.
Hi Mike, can you tell us about the creative process behind the song WRINKLES?
Hi Mike, UK fans love John Stamos.  What was John's reaction after first hearing your song WRINKLES?
Hi Mike, is there any mention in your recently released book about the song WRINKLES?
Hi Mike, do you think your cousins' drug use had any negative effect on the production of the song WRINKLES?
Hi Mike, did you ever lobby for your song WRINKLES to be included on the C50 album?  It would have been a fitting entry I think.
Thanks Mike!

I hope they gab and whine about the toxicity of online forums and the spread of false information over the web regarding the legacy of Mike Love. I was reading some of the PS forum posts and a certain person there is claiming that a lot of negative opinions about Mike Love are based on incomplete information. It's amazing to see that what happened here for years is perfectly mirroring what is happening there. Only on the PS forum there really isn't any voice of reason to challenge the opinion of a guy who went out to lunch with Mike so of course Mike is just the cat's meow and has no faults whatsoever.

Meanwhile anyone with a fucking brain and a teaspoon of intelligence can deduce just by Mike's monotonously passive aggressive interviews that, yeah, he's probably not the kindest Beach Boy. I'll trust David Crosby's opinion when he said that Mike is quite possibly the biggest jerk in rock n roll. And if that isn't a credible enough source, I'll base my opinion off the fact that Mike was childish enough to sue his cousin over a minuscule picture on a freebie CD....yeah, real class act guy. Can't wait to read this in depth one on one interview.

You forgot the part about how he pretended that embarrassing failed lawsuit (which is a HUGE source of ire against him by many fans) didn't even occur whatsoever by "just happening to" exclude it from his autobio, and thus hoping people would just forget about it.

Surely Mr Love's autobiography could have been a great vehicle for conveying this missing information?  What a missed opportunity, if he failed to mention the specific facts that would inspire people to re-evaluate him!

Had Mike mentioned stuff like the 2005 lawsuit, and expressed sincere regret, saying he was caught up in some misguided rage and admitted to having acted in a regretful manner, I'd certainly have given him re-evaluation points. And I think most of his critics would. In fact, I cannot imagine any reason why Mike can't realize that fessing up to his mistakes is the only key to getting people to positively re-evaluate him.

Unless, of course, he to this day thinks he (and/or his lawyers with the repugnant descriptions of Brian) acted in an admirable fashion or something. The thing I'll never get until my last breath is how someone who does this stuff (or allows this stuff to be done under their name/direction) can be baffled that people could be extremely put off by it, and subsequently develop a dislike for him for it. It does not compute.

Mike doesn't care since he didn't mention it in the book. If there is a way to shake down BW, Mike will take it since the 1994 lawsuit actually succeeded in doing so.

Oh man, I can't believe I missed this... and by a day. So many questions!

"Why isn't your magnum opus 'Summer in Paradise' available on Spotify? I was ready for the summer of love!"
"Was having Van Dyke Parks on Kokomo and Summer in Paradise part of some long term humiliation plan? Because if so it's kind of brilliant."
"How many baseball hats do you own?""
"Why haven't you followed me back on Twitter?"

When did you start your botox treatments, 1963 or 64?

After your hair plugs failed, why didn't you just shave your head?

When did you realize that you couldn't write a decent song? Yesterday?

How many rehearsals did it take to get your Rock and Roll HOF speech just right?

How many lawyers do you have on retainer?

Are you fairly close to ditching Bruce?

Explain what it's like, on a daily basis, to be the biggest asshole in rock.

While not fully aware of the bands history, many have commented about what a class act he was. Mike should have been as gracious.

What's also funny is that Perry's position vis-à-vis "Journey" is a bit (and I stress only a bit) like Al Jardine's place in the Beach Boys, in that he was booted in a somewhat confusing fashion and it has never been 100% clear how much he wants to be back in the current touring iteration of the band.

I think Steve Perry has also mellowed out a little more. Not too long ago, I watched the "extended" VH1 Behind the Music episode on "Journey", and while Perry was clearly bummed they booted him from the band due to a health issue, he wasn't exactly super gracious about all of the other guys in the band over the years. Just as he was left behind by the band, Perry left behind some aggrieved band members during his tenure in the band.
