Title: Blondie Chaplin - (Great) New Article and Interview

From a site called "Music Legends Of Cape Town", this is a great article and interview about a Flame song (called The Flames in the article) which just topped a Valentines Day poll decades after its release, and gives a lot of great background and insight into Blondie's early days with the band in South Africa. This was shared by Blondie on Facebook - definitely worth a read.

Thanks for the link. That's interesting stuff. Crazy (but not surprising) the amount of racial discrimination that Blondie and the other Flame members had to endure. I wonder what it's like for Blondie to know that the brand name of a band of his is associated with a politician who is down with racial discrimination  :-\ It must be... odd.

I have consistently seen the band name inconsistently spelled as "The Flame" and/or "The Flames", and this drives me nuts! What's the right name?

Also - amazing that Ricky was only 10 when he joined the band The Flame(s). He beat out David Marks by almost 33% for being the youngest BB member to have been in a professional band. What an experience that must have been. Almost Little Ricky Ricardo style for Fataar.

He was going on 20 when he joined the BB.

Sorry, I clarified my wording in my above post. I meant he was 10 when he joined The Flame(s), according to the article. Even though he and David have never shared a stage (have they?), they'd at least have that in common of having been SUPER young and in a famous band - and right around the same time, in the very early '60s too.

Yeah, I know what you meant, was just expressing my amazement! He was already a 10 year veteran by that point...

Oh, got it :) The interwebs make it hard to understand sometimes, my bad. And yeah - that is CRAZY. Ricky was the first BB member to be able to say (as a then-current BB member) that he'd already been in the music biz half his life, and like you said, that was in '72 right when he joined The BBs.

My favorite version of this song is by the great Garnett Mimms:

If you like this listen to some of his other stuff, you won't be disappointed.
