It's rare to hear this about an album by The Fab Four, but I think HELP is underrated.

But, the choice is naturally obvious to me for the weakest link, so I'll act upon it.

Act Naturally

"It's Only Love" is nothing special. "Act Naturally" features very good lead by Ringo. Artistic.

Completely agreed with RangeRover. Voting against It's Only Love. Act Naturally at least is in my view (despite being a cover) Ringo's quintessential song, so at least that has it going for it - for now

 "It's Only Love"

Like the song but it doesn't stand up to the other cuts.

Damn, am surprised to see so much ambivalence for It's Only Love. That's one of my favorite songs on the album.

I think maybe it's because I'm an acoustic guitar player and I really like the bright and fun acoustic part for this song:

Really like some of the chord changes too.

Exactly. Ringo even sounds kinda "country".

Yep, not many people like it.

Ditto here. I know Lennon despised the song. But it is one of my faves as  well.

From here on out it's going to get really difficult. "Help" is currently my favorite Beatles album. I LOVE "It's Only Love". I'm going to have to vote to remove "Act Naturally". I've never really liked the song, despite it being in Ringo's comfort zone(he loves country music).

Dizzy Miss Lizzy was a great concert song though.

Yeah it  was. Plus it was the last Beatles album that followed the formula from as far back as Please Please Me by ending the album with John screaming a rocker.

"It's Only Love" - really?

Don't worry, you're not alone. It doesn't make any sense but we must carry on. It's only their opinion, and that is all. Yet, why do we feel the way we do?

Anyways, despite how the picture doesn't fit with the song at all

This song was in our Beatles tribute band's repertoire, but none of us liked the "I really do" line in the bridge.
Not a bad song but the others are better (opinion).

Now, it gets really difficult, as I like all the remaining songs.

But, I'd say that Another Girl is probably the weakest remaining.

This is where I bow out for the time being. I can't judge these songs objectively. Plus I'll be surprised if 'Yesterday' doesn't win so from here it's just getting to that point.

I will return if I change my mind. Good luck, Beatles. They're tearing down your songs one at a time.

"I Need You" - the wah-wah make this boring song unbearable to listen.

3) "You're going to lose that girl" must go now. It should've been gone waaaaay before.

Glad that 'I need you' outstayed 'another girl'.  ;)
those guitar sounds are the beginning of what guitars can do other
than with reverb and echo.  This is a guitar players song perhaps,
even if it isn't 'right on', it sure was pointing the way to effects on guitars.

I love I've Just Seen a Face. It was one of my favorite songs on the Rubber Soul album (yes, in the US back in 1965, IJSAF was not on the Help album).

But as much as I love it, will have to let it go - the others are better IMO.

I've played along on so many of these Survivor rounds, Beach Boys, now the Beatles.  This is the worst round I've ever seen.

It's become the Singles Survivor game.  So our next move is to pick from the singles as representative of the best tracks from
the album.

Does everybody voting own this album?  Have you listened to this album?  More than once?  What a mess.  A butchered mess.

Radio Hits Survivor:  I vote "Yesterday" - Paul's worst song on Help (UK version).

I may change my vote to Yesterday too. Once you get past the hype, the melody is nice but it is rather boring. Also, it's not really a Beatle song since Paul is solo on it.

Once you get past the hype, it's actually just as good as it's said to be. It's just such a mammothly popular song that it's hard to listen to it anymore for what it is. It's like listening to the Smithsonian.
My vote (hopefully someones seen the movie):

Round#3 You Like Me Too Much February 8
Round#4 Act Naturally February 10
Round#5 Tell Me What You See February 13
Round#6 Another Girl February 17
Round#7 I Need You February 19

Round#10 I've Just Seen A Face February 27
Round#11 You've Got To Hide Your Love Away March 1

Okay. The end of the road. Time to choose the SURVIVOR.

Yesterday is kind of overshadowed by the hype. Someone said it's like voting for the Smithsonian.

I sat down at my piano and decided to play each one and whichever one yielded the most enjoyment was going to be my pick

HELP! (Does my vote count if I played it on the piano like the Deep Purple version?)

All apologies to the great Paul McCartney, who already had to deal with being shrunk and almost crushed by Ringo during the HELP! movie, my vote goes to.....

The title track to the album and the film

HELP

And I love Deep Purple's version too, and apparently, so did John Lennon.

I think it was closer to Lennon's vision of the song,  for sure.

The music of the Purple version definitely matches the lyrics better.  Plus, a great Ritchie Blackmore solo.

Tough one, since they're all stone-cold classics....

Have to go with the (so far) majority though and vote Help!

Deep Purple is boring band with boring songs, don't care to listen to their covers. Anyway, hooray! :3d :3d :3d I really, big time, disagreed with those of you foolishly voting off "Yesterday", one of the best songs ever. I never get tire of it, it sounds fresh when they play it by radio etc. If you're tired - big deal. I'm very happy that it made it to the finals. Who cares, hit singles-not hit singles. What's the problem. It would be reaaaally bizarre if inferior boring "You've got to hide" made to final round.

That said, Adult Child asked me about Top 5 Beatles & I listed "Help" among them. So, "Help" should be winner.

One word I can say I've never heard to describe Deep Purple is boring.

Consider this my unpopular music opinion (I know you started thread at PS :D).

Probably not an overly unpopular opinion among Beach Boys fans (not liking Purple).

This is true, especially outside of the US.

That said, Adult Child asked me about Top 5 Beatles & I listed "Help" among them. So, "Help" should be winner.

That was an interesting list, I forgot to mention.

It was the first Beatles single longer than 3 minutes, and the first one with Paul playing lead guitar. Ian MacDonald called it "psychologically deeper than anything The Beatles had recorded before." John Lennon called it "one of the earliest heavy metal records....pretty phucking heavy for then." But none of these things have anything to do with why I'm choosing it; I'm choosing it because it still sounds just as exciting as when I first heard it as a kid, even more than the other two choices.

I just got a ticket to ride myself, I'm heading over to Rubber Soul. I will see you all there.

Ticket To Ride.  It's probably my most played Beatles track.

Hmm. Ticket to Ride should have gone a while ago IMO. So that's not what I'm gonna vote for obviously.

It's tempting to vote for Yesterday, not necessarily because it's my favorite song on the album, but because it's arguably the most important song on the album, being the song that made the adult market start paying attention to the Beatles (my own father has told me he didn't pay attention to the Beatles until they came out with Yesterday). On the other hand I think I like Help better. So I'll go with that.

Ticket to Ride for the win? I contributed absolutely nothing to this thread until now, so I don't even know if my vote counts, but there it is  :lol

oh darn! I do that every time, sorry about that.
I really like ticket to ride, for the drum pattern, vocals and guitar playin.
but I think Yesterday has to be the winner.  Great lyrics, great string arrangement.
it's a perfect song.

Welcome back to the fight to survive!

THE TOPPERMOST OF THE POPPERMOST!!!

Quote
Help! is a 1965 album by the Beatles, and the soundtrack from their film Help!. Produced by George Martin, it was the fifth UK album release by the band, and contains fourteen songs in its original British form. Seven of these, including the singles "Help!" and "Ticket to Ride", appeared in the film and took up the first side of the vinyl album. The second side contained seven other releases including the most-covered song ever written, "Yesterday".

I could have sworn 5 smilers had a Ticket To Ride, but when Mr. Conductor asked for it, they had lost it. (http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/shiningtimestation/images/f/f2/Mr._Conductor_-1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20140414211044)

Round#10 I've Just Seen A Face February 27
Round#11 You've Got To Hide Your Love Away March 1
Round#12 Yesterday March 4
Round#12 Ticket To Ride March 4

And the winner of The Beatles Survivor is....

H  E  L  P  !  !  !

I approve of this album's selection.

As the albums get better, so does the discussion.

Thank you all for sticking around and playing Survivor. Exciting stuff ahead...
