Title: Ticket Listing & News Blurb for 1/30 Mike Gig Erroneously Billed as Reunion Gig
Post by: HeyJude on January 19, 2017, 07:20:17 AM
The website to buy tickets for Mike's 1/30 show in Fayetteville, while using a pic of Mike's licensed band, clearly uses a blurb that someone lazily took from a 2012 bio of the band, and all of the text indicates the gig will feature the reunion lineup. This is important because this isn't a random blog, but the actual website where you buy tickets:

http://www.community-concerts.com/2016/07/27/beach-boys/

Interestingly, there's also a website for the Fayetteville community newspaper (which may well have also been printed; I don't know if they have a print edition) where they advertise the show with the same erroneous text indicating Brian will be part of the show and it will be a reunion gig:

http://www.upandcomingweekly.com/entertainment/the-beach-boys-bring-a-taste-of-summer-to-the-crown

Also worth noting is that this listing also features what is presumably a flyer/advertisement for the show. This flyer again does use the creepy pic of Mike's own band, but then also uses *FIVE* vintage photos featuring the original five Beach Boys, with a "55 Years of Fun Fun Fun" text over the top.

I'm curious if there are actual going to be people at this gig who though they were getting the reunion lineup. The URL for the ticket listing suggests it may have been posted all the way back in July, and the gig is now only 10 days away. So it's possible that everybody who bought tickets to this show over the last six months would have seen text indicating it's a reunion gig. That's pretty bad.

Four years after the fact. No excuse. Sloppiness or laziness doesn't excuse it in 2017.

Beyond weird how they'd get a near five-year-old press blurb and use it.

I'm kind of hoping they book Ringo soon so I can see if they use the press materials from the 1966 North American Beatles tours.

I'll tell you what, if M&B play my town, there's no way in hell that my IT guy and I would let that crap make it into our newspaper!

The bottom line is, Mike is the guy representing "The Beach Boys" in 2017, and whoever runs his FB page consistently posts old photos of the band WITH Brian, Al, etc  over and over again. In fact, those old pics are regularly intermingled by being present in the very same posts advertising upcoming "BB" shows (such as a "FLASHBACK FRIDAY" blurb with vintage photo in the same post as promoting a 2017 "BB" Australia tour). This has to be contributing to this problem of brand confusion on some level.

While Brian's page may post vintage pics too, he isn't concurrently going out on the road trying to sell a show as "The BBs". I can't imagine Mike gives much of a hoot if anyone in the public mistakenly thinks that Brian or Al are part of the band, are supporting Trump gigs, etc.

On the social media front, the only thing keeping it from being *even more* confusing is that least Mike is forced to keep his Facebook page as a "Mike Love" page and not a "Beach Boys" page. (Not sure who runs the "Beach Boys" page, but it seems to be a rather bland page mostly just pushing Capitol BB product and the like).

"The Beach Boys" as a corporation/brand don't have a very good central social media situation, and hopefully at least *that* will change in the future and in the process of that they can at least offer a better explanation/differentiation concerning Mike's licensed "Beach Boys" versus THE Beach Boys.
