Title: Online advertising
Post by: Charles LePage @ ComicList on July 29, 2006, 01:01:15 PM
1) Which types of online advertising have worked best on any web site you have maintained?  Banners? Links?  Any particular company's ads work better than others?

2) Which types or company's online ads do you respond to more often than others?  Do you click on google ads but not someone else's banners or buttons?  Do you ever actually buy anything after clicking on the ad?

I click on NO ads, and usually stop going to sites that feature many pop-ups.

I've never found pop up ads effective as far as attracting me to the ad, or attracting anyone else.

The most effective ads I've had experience with are the ones that blend into a web site, like text links.

I'm with Billy - i do not purposely click on ANY on-line ads.  I hate them.

Do you hate ads in magazines, or on TV?  And if so, is the level of dislike based upon the types and amounts of ads, or does any amount of advertising in any given medium bother you?

Im drunk.

A drunk mod is as useful as a drunk cop.

I don't pay attention to banners or links on websites. If they are continuous pop-ups I usually don't visit the site again. When the commercials come on TV I turn the sound off and sit there with my eyes closed.

It's true:  96% of the posts here are from me, just pretending to be 600 other people.

Pop-ups drive me away; for instance, they keep me from making the BBB site a daily stop.  I also don't like to see them as banners, or along-side kinds of things...i go to a MB for the topic, not to be bombarded with advertising.

Ads on the radio get under my skin, too...ads on TV annoy...but i've gotten used to those.  They've always been there.  On the 'net, tho, on a site where i KNOW they're not mandatory - such as this one - the bug me even more.

I guess on the 'net i can avoid them a little more easily than i can in print or broadcast media; TV, radio, and magazines don't give me a choice whether to see them or not, but on-line i often have that choice - and exercise it!!

That reminds me of a funny story...

I was going to work a few years ago, running late. I was speeding (I NEVER speed), and going 60 in a 45 mph zone. I saw a police officer pull up on side of me. I started to panic, but then I noticed he was paying me no mind. Then I saw...the officer drinking what appeared to be a 40 oz. alcoholic beverage of some sort in a brown paper bag. The cop looked at me, gave me the peace sign (!), then sped off. Sadly, this was years before I had a digital camera...

 :lol

Suze, I use the same browser as you do... and I don't get any popups on BBB.

Then again, I don't see any banners on SD2...

Now, about LBWL... :woot

I use Firefox, and even though it has multiple means to stop popups, BBB is able to sneak at least one in every time.

I use Netscape and Norton which, in combination, are a pretty potent pop-up blocker, but i, too, get at least one every time i visit BBB.
