Title: I Heard "Friends" The Other Day...
Post by: c-man on September 29, 2016, 08:20:28 PM
...on SirriusXM's Deep Tracks channel. DJ Meg Griffin spun it, followed by the equally deep Fleetwood Mac track "Underway". Don't think I've ever heard "Friends" on the radio (much less "Underway").

A few months ago, one of the sirius rock radios played "Long Promised Road". I was definitely shocked! Halfway through the song, my sister asked: "Is it almost over?"
I need a new sister.

I remember hearing "Friends" several times on British radio back in '68. Every BB 45 was an event in the UK in those days.

I heard Friends being played in an ASDA store in Edinburgh about 15 years ago!

About a month ago I heard Let Him Run Wild on the 60's on 6. Cousin Brucie announced it as the "best song you've never heard."

Really? I never thought of that as a song most people haven't heard. Perhaps not on a regular rotation in most oldies stations, but it was the flip side to California Girls and is on most best of compilations I've seen.

About a week ago, the local college radio station was playing a song that VDP had been on, and the DJ tried to explain who VDP was.  He mainly discussed Smile, and how VDP just about "ruined" the Beach Boys by creating lyrics that they weren't ready for.  He said that the Beach Boys just wanted to sing about surfing, so the album never came out.

And this is from someone who claimed to be a big fan of Smile.

From Meg Griffin I'm not surprised.  She played a lot of good music over the years in NYC on WNEW and WFUV.

I heard a live broadcast of the Skeletons (aka The Morells) doing a cover of All I Want to Do.  Of course this was about thirty years ago.  Supposedly a group member was a big Denny fan.
