Title: Jason Molina > Songs: Ohia / Magnolia Electric Co. Post by: Lowbacca on August 24, 2016, 03:22:26 AM A fellow BW aficionado I met at an office party recommended a recently deceased singer/songwriter to me - almost as enthusiastically as he talked about BW's production techniques (the guy was a producer and "amp engineer" himself). The artist he adored was called Jason Molina (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Molina), whom he called "a beautiful man and musician" and told me an anecdote about how he once played a gig with him. I had never heard of him.
Molina mostly recorded under the pseudonym Songs: Ohia. Last night I started to listen to a couple of random tracks, more or less attentively. Before midnight I had his entire discography. And I vaguely remembered listening to a side-project of his (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephine_(album)) in college. I'm a glowing overnight fan, and I thought it probable to find a few like-minded individuals here - the bestest music-related board of all. :-D (http://i.imgur.com/f3sqltg.jpg) For anyone not familiar with Molina: He's somewhere between solo Syd Barrett (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syd_Barrett), Sparklehorse (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparklehorse), Elliott Smith (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliott_Smith) and Will Oldham (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Oldham), with a very distinct 'voice' of his own. So what are your Jason Molina favourites? :) |
