Title: Most "despised" people in BB history?
Post by: Banana on August 07, 2016, 12:52:51 PM
Who are the biggest creeps in the long and twisted history of the Beach Boys? Murry and Mike are obvious choices...but for my money...I'm going with Stan and Rocky for being two creepy porn star lookin' jock creeps who beat up Dennis. Rocky also (supposedly) knocked out Carl and we all know what he was doing with Marilyn (not that Brian was Mr. Innocent).

How were these two creeps allowed so much power? I know Stan is Mike's brother...and I know they were essentially hired to replace Landy...but come on...did anyone really think that was a good idea??

Manson was kind of bad.

Is the story about Denny kicking the you-know-what out of Manson true? From what I read, Manson showed Dennis a bullet and made some comment about Dennis' kids and Dennis proceeded to put a pretty good beating on him. Manson ended up sobbing on the floor.

I don't know but I hope so.

Landy, Morgan, Landy Jr, Leslie.

Of course Murry is in the hall of fame but for myself it would have to be rocky. He didn't do near the damage of someone like Landy but it was just so chickenshit... and the fact that he got away with it.

I'd easily go with Murry, Rocky & Stan and throw myKe in the pile as well.

Rocky and Stan both rocked major porn mustaches, too!

Wasn't Rocky going to publish a book several years ago? That would have been an interesting read.

Also, has the mystery of who karate chopped Dennis in the throat ever been solved? Did it actually happen and it so...did Steve Love deliver the blow? I'd add him to the list for that.

Wasn't Rocky going to publish a bok several years ago? That would have been an interesting read.

Rocky was a fairly consistent poster on this forum for a short time earlier this year actually, constantly talking about his supposed upcoming book.  His posts varied from childish to near-incomprehensible and he was basically ridiculed off the board.  You can view his posting history here (http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php?action=profile;u=9448;sa=showPosts) if you're interested but you might want to take an Advil afterwards.

I don't know that it's ever been determined that Dennis was  hit in the throat. However if he had been I don't think that Steve Love had anything to do with it.

An Advil? More like a bottle of cheap vodka from the corner liquor store. Wow. I think that is all I can say. Wow.

I only skimmed some of it...but he seems to trash Mike quite a bit while holding up Steve Love as some sort of savior (or Stephen as he calls him). Some of his rants about Mike were priceless. Please, someone, publish Rocky's book!

How about Adele for keeping The Beach Boys final album from reaching #1 in 2012?

Always Landy for me.

Always Landy for me.

Landy does seem like the obvious choice.  He definitely took advantage of his access to Brian Wilson in the 1980s.

But, I doubt that Brian Wilson would've lived to see 50 if not for Landy.

It's like having a life saving operation that leads to a crippling addiction to pain killers.

It's easy to vilify Rocky and Stan, but those were desperate times and they were given too much authority.  The person ultimately responsible for their behavior was their employer, who I believe was Marilyn.  Or was it Steve?  Whoever it was they did a poor job of managing them.

1. Manson (for obvious reasons)
2.Murry (just for taking out his glass eye and shoving it in Brian face, yuck!)
3.Landy (for obvious reasons)

I think Manson would be first. Landy and Rocky are obvious choices for a distant 2nd. Murray on the next level after them. As for Mike, who could be a bit of a prick at times, but has he really done anything so bad as to hurt/abuse others? Is the rumor that he abused a daughter or girl friend true? I can't recall the story exactly, but has it been confirmed?

Not a bad choice----particularly since he thought it was such a huge joke in Beautiful Dreamer...

Lorren Daro, another guy who came to this forum to talk about complete bullshit.

It was sure funny when some posters behaved like a bunch of lickspittles before Daro & Pamplin. Is it just me who thinks it's super weird to hear some random worker bodyguard singing? Isn't he required to...ummmm...welllllllllll...guard his employer?

The word "despised" is a problem for me from the OP.  "Hating" someone is a waste of emotion, and I would soften that characterization a bit by saying "problematic" - and would suggest a triumvirate.

Daro (I agree 100% and Brian consistently seems to indicate that this is a "line of demarcation" for him, despite various apologists for LSD.)

Manson

Landy - so that is chronologically, in order of damage to the band.  Only a bystander, so I could be wrong.

But a lot of damage appears to have flowed from this 1st person.  I was waiting until someone nailed that and I would agree with you.

How about whoever picked out the Beach Boys' sweaters for the cover of Today?

The person who gave Al the stomach bug that prevented him from being on the cover of SDSN?

Bob Saget for his bold one man attempt at doing all of the vocals from Good Vibrations?  No, wait, that was actually awesome.

The Aristocrats is actually a very old joke that was passed down in the world is stand up comedy, and they decided to make a doc about it about ten years ago.

No, modern American comedy sadly consists of watching Melissa McCarthy doing prat falls in a sad attempt to remake a classic.  Or, the hip/quirky, but not usually funny, stylings of Broad City or Portlandia.

Just my way of showing that the my post was purely in jest.

Sometimes these type of threads go down that rabbit hole, so I figured I'd inject some humor.

And hey, it's five O clock somewhere.

Yes, in jest.   ;)  Levity is essential.

My mother always said that... :lol

But, I still do wish they would add a few more emoticons for coffee, or a wine glass, or champagne...

Bruce isn't the most likable guy either. and Foskett has also garnered some animosity for quitting Brian to join Mike... not to mention his grating falsetto.

Never really got the hate Foskett got for leaving Brian's band to join Mike's.

If I recall, at the time Brian wasn't doing nearly as many gigs as Mike and Bruce.

And, both bands benefitted.  Foskett adds a lot to Mike's show, and his absence in Brian's band opened the door for Matt Jardine.

Win - Win.

Foskett is a tool. I attended a soundcheck for a Brian show and saw him and Melinda sitting there talking. As I walked over to say hi to her, she turned and gave me a warm welcome, asked how I was and thanked me for coming to the show. Foskett, in a somewhat terse and rude manner says "...uh, hey, we were talking and don't need to be interrupted!" Melinda told him to pipe down and thanked me for coming over to say hi. I had fun ignoring that fat pile of bad manners.

If Jeff was ghost signing items that were selling at merch stands, than I think that's something Brian's management should handle.  There were a lot of reports that only 4/5 of the signatures sold on the C50 were legit - Mike, Bruce, Dave, and Al.  Brian's management never should've let that happen as it's a slight to the fans.  I was really tempted to spend $100 (which I really didn't have), and I'm really glad I didn't.  Of the three Brian autographs I have, I actually witnessed him sign two of them.

Seems like you all got 'em all... ... ...save one.
Manson...the weirdest duck of them all
Landy..poison on 2 legs
Murry...should have been a Landy patient...would have served him right
Rocky...what an ignorant bozo...the dumbest, dullest dolt in the mix
Stan...too many games w/o a helmet
Lauren...should have had more revealing stories...but...too damaged
'Love'...Captain miserable x 70,000,000.

Not sure I'd include Bruce or Jeff.  No wait.  I AM sure that I wouldn't.  They don't compare to the upper 7 arseholes.  I DON'T despise either one of them.

I would add John Stamos to the list though.  Maybe it wasn't his fault that he was elevated up onto the stage...but the way he just killed the unique spark which made Forever a classic Beach Boys work of ART was and is 100% unforgivable...and unlistenable.  It is also another sad reason why sumo in pair of dice is such a turd of an album.
