Title: Ever get a sense of embarrassment when reading through your early posts?
Post by: bluesno1fann on March 04, 2016, 06:41:10 PM
For whatever reason - be it getting used to how things are done on the forum, developing contradicting opinions to what you once held, joining too young where you lack the sufficient maturity to conform effectively, etc. - do you guys get a sense of embarrassment when you read through some of your earliest posts not only on this forum, but anywhere in general? Like a sense of Early Instalment Weirdness which seems nothing like what you post today.

I have to say I'm one of those who cringe at much of my early posts here. Many of these completely lacked substance, and indicated a large level of immaturity that could be understandably taken as trolling or spamming. It didn't help that my posting rate at one point can easily be considered insufferably high - quantity over quality. What embarrasses me the most though is the arrogance when it came some of the opinions I've held - had I been a bystander, I would have been extremely frustrated.

Anyway, how about you guys? Do you get that sense of embarrassment when you skim through your earliest posts?

One of the reasons why having an invented user name and posting anonymously is a fine thing, as opposed to having everything you've ever written being findable by everyone you've ever known and will ever meet in real life.  Dunno why that gets questioned, here sometimes and elsewhere on the net.

Heh, I can actually relate to that post. I'd hate to guess what percentage of my posts were written and posted in an inebriated state. Hopefully it isn't too obvious.

As for being embarrassed? Not really. There are plenty from the early days--it has been 10 years or so on this version of the board itself, to say nothing of its predecessor--that I wouldn't support anymore, but I think a lot of that is just a matter of changing my mind about things. In terms of embarrassed, maybe just being too much of an asshole sometimes. (Other times I think I was just enough of an asshole.)

Haha, no, it's not obvious. I should imagine that all the posts I regret posting were done in an inebriated state. Still, if I'm really out of it, my posts will be in Dutch. :lol

Nah, I stand behind everything I've written on this board.
Well, maybe not those absurdly stupid arguments I had with you, Rei. I'm sincerely sorry about those.

Always. Terrible articulation (including one or two cringeworthy attempts at snark) coupled with useless, self-important threads (I believe I made one for a shitty Smile mix I'd made about a week into joining the board) are more or less the hallmarks of my early posts. I also occasionally come across one of my old 'Rank the Tracks' lists and get a bit staggered at how much my opinions have changed.
And I'd also like to apologize for the arguments, Rei. Bad times. :(

Look, don't worry about it guys. I'm not one that generally holds grudges. It's largely my fault as well (for which I apologise too) and as far as I'm concerned it's all in the past.
