Title: Christmas album MONO
Post by: Micha on December 25, 2015, 11:52:51 AM
Yesterday (Christmas Eve) I listened to the mono Christmas album for the first time ever. There were quite a few surprises. The jazzy cymbal on "Frosty The Snowman" seemed much more up front than in the stereo version, also a violin line in "We Three Kings".

The most baffling though was that "Merry Christmas Baby" faded out way too early, at the beginning of the third verse. Is that a vintage Brian Wilson mix? If so, that must be Brian's poorest mixing choice EVER. Ruins the song in a way. Even if it wasn't Brian, why does one fade out right in the last verse? Is that the case on the original release also?

Yeah, the original mono mix fades out around 1:42. The later stereo remixes don't.

On Spotify at least, was the album mono version "Little Saint Nick" replaced with the single mono mix? The only album version of the song I can find is the 1991 stereo mix of it.
