I'm assuming this is tracked -- what's your tracker of choice? I've yet to find one with an interface I can really jive with, but without the complexity of something like Renoise. Okay, so what I do is use "peach" and "toad" VSTs. They're free, and work really well. As far as tracking software, I use "Mixcraft 6" and a midi keyboard. All of the percussive effects are created by "Toad" which is essentially a vst that samples old NES sound effects to use as drums! I believe the one you're referring to is from Super Mario 3 or something like that... I'll keep this up, glad to know you guys like it! And I'd just like to throw out there concerning the commercial point- I actually do this for commission for guys making indie games, except normally I write the music and it has a bit more than just the standard 8 but stuffs... But just wanted you to know your hunch about the "commerical-ness" is totally on par haha!
