The Solo Survivors are going to tackle the main solo albums of members of the Beach Boys. This will not include solo albums released prior to membership in the Beach Boys. This will also not include works done by members who were participating in different groups (ie David Marks in The Moon or The Marksmen) nor will it include "Best Of" albums or rehash albums (ie Summertime Cruisin' by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston will not be included. This also means we will not be including Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE or I Just Wasn't Made For These Times.) Lastly, we will not be including EP's or Unreleased Albums. Some of the Solo Survivor albums may be hard to come across. Smilers are encouraged to locate legal copies of the solo albums. I expect these rounds to go quicker with less voting than normal. No big deal. So without further ado... Quote Pacific Ocean Blue is Dennis Wilson's only studio album, released in 1977. It was the debut and final studio album released by this member of the Beach Boys, and when released, was both warmly received critically, and noted for outselling the Beach Boys' contemporary efforts. The Solo Survivors are going to tackle the main solo albums of members of the Beach Boys. This will not include solo albums released prior to membership in the Beach Boys. This will also not include works done by members who were participating in different groups (ie David Marks in The Moon or The Marksmen) nor will it include "Best Of" albums or rehash albums (ie Summertime Cruisin' by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston will not be included. This also means we will not be including Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE or I Just Wasn't Made For These Times.) Lastly, we will not be including EP's or Unreleased Albums. Some of the Solo Survivor albums may be hard to come across. Smilers are encouraged to locate legal copies of the solo albums. I expect these rounds to go quicker with less voting than normal. Honestly, it's probably my least favorite song on the album. Don't know why I had to go with "What's Wrong" first, but I believe it's because the first time I listened to POB, I was so elated by River Song that What's Wrong was almost a bit of a letdown. But that's Denny-- Epic rock tracks, romantic tracks (epic or otherwise), and honky-tonk rock. I don't think it's a terrible song (there isn't a terrible song on this album) but it is one I'm likely to skip if I'm not in the mood for wimp rock. But maybe it's also the inspiration for Paul McCartney's "No More Lonely Nights"? If so, I'll take the one with Dave Gilmour on guitar. Weak choice for a single in my opinion (should have been "River Song" if there had to be a single at all). Actually, ever since the Legacy edition was released, I find myself listening to Bambu or the bonus tracks more than POB.

It's my undisputed favourite song on the album. That melody, those synths, the heartbreaking lyrics and Dennis' equally heartbreaking delivery... Especially the part where it goes into such a dark/semi-violent phase to emerge into something so fragile and pleading. "Loneliness is a very special place." But ultimately it is not my fave. River Song (possibly the obvious winner from the beginning) is one of the most fantastic productions of the entire Beach Boys Oeuvre. But it's not the track that, when I first heard it, gave me a strange ache in my heart. River Song didn't fill me with a sense of eternity and the longing that my favorite track did. The Solo Survivors are going to tackle the main solo albums of members of the Beach Boys. This will not include solo albums released prior to membership in the Beach Boys. This will also not include works done by members who were participating in different groups (ie David Marks in The Moon or The Marksmen) nor will it include "Best Of" albums or rehash albums (ie Summertime Cruisin' by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston will not be included. This also means we will not be including Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE or I Just Wasn't Made For These Times.) Lastly, we will not be including EP's or Unreleased Albums. Some of the Solo Survivor albums may be hard to come across. Smilers are encouraged to locate legal copies of the solo albums. I expect these rounds to go quicker with less voting than normal. No big deal. So without further ado... Quote Pacific Ocean Blue is Dennis Wilson's only studio album, released in 1977. It was the debut and final studio album released by this member of the Beach Boys, and when released, was both warmly received critically, and noted for outselling the Beach Boys' contemporary efforts.
