lol.

I've got a cat myself, he's really fun to play with. Can be crazy at times too.

That cat is sweetie! Thanks for the link, Jess.

Unlike your cats, mine is very docile & never swings around the streets if I tell him not to. Yet, every dog will run away from him if he goes nankey face. It's celtic but in my life I had lots of homeless "plain" cats. They're all good for me. Now, do tell some words about your own cats, some fur & eye description, breed (or better yet, photo).

Today, I had wonderful idea that I'm going to draw all the folks in the cat shape. retrokid, as an author, will be the 1st:

(http://i58.tinypic.com/351vg90.jpg) (really happy with this one, my favorite creation at the mo)
(http://i57.tinypic.com/n6q9uh.jpg) (the best coloring, like a chocolate cake)

Enjoy if you can.

:lol Nice! Love to see more (Though I'm curious as to why you chose Pink as my colour?)

A request: Could you do Woodstock, Surfer, and the user formerly known as Bubbly Waves next?

Inspired by your love for "Slow Summer Dancin'".

Okey-doke. I'm already picturing Woodstock as a gray naughty cat.
In the future, can I ask you not to quote the drawings, only words? It's too much to scroll down the same thing over & over.

Okay. Though I should point out that in no way do I "love" Slow Summer Dancin'. Again, even the best songs off SIP are far below average. The entire album should never have been made, period.

As for Woodstock, I highly recommend getting inspiration from this picture. Not only does this always remind me of him (after all he did send it to me. Thanks for the adorable cat!), but it kinda fits his personality:

I love that cat. If I had a litter of long hairs I would shave half of them like that and have them form tribes: shaved against long hairs.

Make your drawing of me extravagant  :)

And can you do Judd? And draw me playing with other people here as cats? Thanks - these are gold.

I love your Cat drawings!!
I want to be a Cat too.  A happy fat cat like the Croz.
The Rei Cat looks like the Manticore lion/tiger thingy, don't know what he's bitching about.  Pink is just another color in the paint box.  I love the colors you used on Jess' Cat, as yellow-green is my favorite color.  And the orange goes well with that.
Hal's is great too.
Really Good Job Marianne!
I enjoy your sense of humor & actually, you made me like the Rei cat even more, I didn't even think about the manticore when drawing him, he does indeed resemble that mythical animal, now you said it.

Relatedly, I know who I'm going to draw as the best cat.

Well, yes, choosing one of my quotes as a signature exactly guarantees having the best cat status.

Title: Re: Pets
Post by: RangeRoverA1 on July 04, 2014, 04:34:02 AM
Sorry, Rei, I didn't draw the folks you requested. I had other 3 in mind, spontaneously:

Notes: Fig. 1 - I know he posted his picture on this board, even had one as an avatar, but I always imagined him donning overalls. Bugs Bunny teeth wasn't my intention, though.
Fig. 2 - being curious Barbara, I was surfing the net to find Amanda (& other posters), & her FB had this photo where she wore tons of mascara & big eyes; think I showed it very well. She's a fitness instructor, the hoop reads: Kewl. I. Am., allusion to "Will. I. Am." Why? Because she is confident, has a great sense of fashion, yet amicable, hence the wide smile.
Fig. 3 - At the time, the lady was nameless. Now, inspired by a certain BBs song, I'll call her Tricia; weirdly, it does seem to fit her face. Also look at the broad nostrils, typical Judd (see the Photo thread). Btw, this "double standard" style is my going back-to-roots, earlier sketches have it all over (here: cat's bow-tie is the lady's headgear).

As a bonus, I drew KittyKat as a gorgeous princess (I assume the poster is "she"), but the colors were wrong, so I scrapped the paper. Wait for Take 2 in the next batch.

I quite like Pixletwin's one the most so far, and am looking forward to your next batch!

And I've noticed a bit of an evolution in the basic cat design from the first and second batch.

Title: Re: Pets
Post by: RangeRoverA1 on July 04, 2014, 06:38:02 AM
Judd has clearly attained best cat status, though, just to be sure, I would like to challenge him to a round of cat survivor. Cat Pixletwin can officiate.
I like the current 3 but yes, Judd cat is totally rad! It isn't colorful like the rest, only different shades of green. It came off the most tasteful & not over-the-top. Though in the end, I love all the cats because, well, they are cats.

Design change I see only in size, big to small.

Thanks for the cat picture RRA1, I did not expect to get singled out like that. I feel very honored for it and for the kind words in your description too. It's funny because for reasons no one could ever remember my nickname in school sports was "Big Cat", my local newspaper did a profile on me going into the state softball championships that's really hilarious and goes into all this detail about it. I might have to share your picture with the girls I played with in high school and college, I'll bet they'll get a kick out of it.

By the way, you don't have to just Facebook stalk me, we could be friends. I basically only shamelessly promote my classes and speaking engagements and my husband's shows.

Also by the way, a tube top for Zumba might work for a cat, but on me that's a big disaster waiting to happen!  :lol

I'm shocked to say the least that you liked these drawings. I bet any 5-year-old could do much better. Anyway, thanks to all for the nice comments!

Amanda, that was a very entertaining story! The "Big Cat" nick really fits your nature (weren't you like born in the year of tiger?). Also, thanks for a friend offer, I'm all for making Smilers my friends. Re FB, I wouldn't call it stalking, though. Jus' wanted to get to know some of the posters closer, is all.

Judd, thanks for the new word "beddable". good to have another synonym for "lovely", "cute", "sweet". Now, instead of saying, "What a lovely tune!" I would "What a beddable tune!" This board is a multi-purpose for me, honestly.

Didn't expect you to go further & change the avatars. Creative idea, whoever came up 1st.

No worries, "Facebook stalking" is just a colloquialism for finding things out about people you don't really know.

Commentary:

№1: camera men often use pins for hanging the pics, I did the same for a cool effect. You read the T-shirt "The Band called The Beach Boys", followed by "2 bands I love!" on the cow-slacks. A fence behind.
№2: dr is Caucasian, but I think sand hair looks good on 'im. The costume is show-nothing, just the type needed for 'chuters.
№3: femme fatale, a new James Bond girl (alternate movie starring cats). I drew her in a classic black gown, then erased it. Instead you see fresh colors with a little of black. The shoes are open on toes (cue the nail polish).

Next are Mr. Waves, filledeplage, Gen42. Shall post them on Sunday.

2 Rei: off the trio, I like the Niko cat the best. The original is cheeky, disobedient & rebellious, so I tried to capture it on his face. Think I managed that.

2 Jess: I actually used to hear the bits of that musical on the radio, never got to see it. Thanks for the link!

2 Mr. Waves: what a weird thing to say, but no, it's not my fingers, they belong to my 13-year-old cousin who I asked for help or I wouldn't be able to take a close snap of the legs.

I'm a James Bond girl?  ??? Who knew. :afro
I always imagined you to have an eye-catching appearance ever since I gave attention to your posts, but the Bond girl idea came right after your "difficult troll" rant. Someone who dares to call me so deserves to be a Bond girl (or boy).

2 Woodstock: as I said earlier, I'm now going to draw randomly, not a bunch of friends (e.g. Rei-Jess-hbig or, say, Ego-rab-SB). Jason, Billy & Klaas /Jonas won't be in the same batch together.

Mr. Frog, Mr. Shrubber, SB, you will get the cats, just be quiet, no fuss.

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: RangeRoverA1 on July 23, 2014, 08:37:23 PM
I'm back home, did some work in my good ole granny's garden (even though I'm not into flowers). Okay, here we go:
(http://i61.tinypic.com/2z9dv6f.jpg) 1
Selfishly, I chose my favorite colors to draw this cat; that little square thingie reads "Harry Nilsson". I tried to capture the sad Pierrot look of the original, think I managed it. Not sure about green eyes, but that's how I saw them in the photos posted by Josh. Same can be said about the hair color (strawberry blonde? dark blonde?).

(http://i62.tinypic.com/2na4gsh.jpg) 2
Generation42 is one of the kindest chaps, never argues & fights, hence the sweetie small cat with harmless fangs, defender of nature & citizens.

(http://i61.tinypic.com/2ps1y4n.jpg) 3 a
(http://i60.tinypic.com/nx9lq9.jpg) 3 b
She once told a story about her visiting the BBs show in '67 & that she was only 5. So, I did 2 versions - young & current. As you see, the eyes & skin color differ but that's more about odd aging & dying fur (lighter) than plastic surgery. Both are good, but the a one is pretty if you ignore the pink. Older "beach girl" has trendy bag saying "Can't quote I like mess 'em around".

At granny's I had drawn an extra cat, taking the Survivor game idea of the wild card. The name came randomly, don't know what is "groz".

Next'll be: the captain (Luther), Custom Machine, Cyncie.

I may draw some couple of wild card cats & they'll be absolute worst. Just for balance to medium & best ones.

2 Ovi: affirmative nods from all the cats (literally & figuratively).

Don't worry, I love all the cats so show me the picture & I'll draw you as a little beau. But alright, let's play the game - I think you have long dark hair, middle height, thin lips, normal nose, short arms & legs middle size, but you got baby fat. You like to dress casually, but can afford sth. even more extreme (cowboy boots, piercing & stuff). What else... sun tan often escapes you, but maybe not now?
Did I get ANYthing right? Say yes.

So next batch after scheduled: stack-o-tracks, feelsflow, Freddie (let it be boy trio).

Speculation is rife as to the cause of the delay of the "Cats 5.0" project from Range Rover.

Some say her brother is fighting the draft.

Some cite a legal dispute with her art dealer.

Some say her 13 year old cousin is refusing to hold them up to be photographed as they're not commercial enough and he or she doesn't understand the crows-over-the-cornfield imagery in the background.

Maybe it's all the fault of the drugs. The cats she uses as models are so high on catnip they can't stand still and pose for her.

An artistically clever "mind's eye" for Range RoverA1 to attempt to capture an essence of some of the posters on Smiley!

Frankly, I hadn't ever noticed that I was used as a "subject" and twice! Thanks!

Cats are vastly superior to dogs, in every respect. (Dogs stink, and dog owners and their houses stink of dog, although they always seem to utterly oblivious to this.)

Here's evidence as to cats superiority: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oq8nYgnE93Y

OH Yes, an LITTER BOXES (full of cat doooo) have no smell at all, oh yes. Well, that is to cat owners with cat urine all over the place.
but they are utterly oblivious that the indoors of their house is a cat toliet. smell good, yes? ha ha.

Oh BTW this cat people is just a passing fad. Enjoy while u can.  :p

Well, it depends on the owner; as long as you garnish cat box with litle fruitellas/light floral stuff, everything's fine. Just make sure the cat isn't allergic to the fragrance. If so, you can try out many other options, there're tons.

And no, cat people will never be a passing fad. Hear me? NE-VER. :3d

see, that's what I've been saying the whole time, that every 5-year-old can draw like this or even better. But others don't hear me! Frankly, when they started complimenting my drawings, I was astonished, then more kind words arrived, I thought to myself, "Maybe I'm not that bad?". But then you come along & get me back to reality. You're one of the sanest posters here, thanks for the honesty.

You have a very childlike style, (reminiscent of children's drawings but more controlled than most actual children's drawings). Some people really like that style, others don't.

Meanwhile, enjoy pictures, all!

I'm most flattered, RR. Yes, you should definitely consider exhibiting. It would make a refreshing change from the usual yawn-inducing gunk you get at local art shows.

My signature? The big chunk of Tony Asher's "GV" used to be Mikie's signature. The bold line above it is a Beach Boys palindrome of my own making, arguably my best. Mind you, I have an excellent tutor, a Mr Skotte from Copenhagen. :=)

Sorry, folks, my laptop broke & I gave it for service, today it's finally at home. I missed this place. Okay now, drum rolls:

I cannot believe that I have not seen this drawing until now. So, a year and a half later I have to say that I really like it. You got the beard right and the hearts too for my wife of 32 years. You captured me, thank you! :)

I never fuss, RR. It's just that I can imagine what Swedish Frog is going through right now, waiting for his cat.

Point me at a cat and I'll stroke it with pleasure but basically I'm a one-dog person.

I do like the idea of a cat palindrome----Beach Boys-related, of course. (It's Skotte by the way, not Scotte.) I'll give it a try----I already have some ideas. At least it'll tear me away from the dreary business of talking drama. ;D

Yes, it's all John's indeed! I don't even 'own' a cat. But I love 'em though . I can only offer to CATapult jk's drome into a twin tanka. Demesne is explained here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demesne) and ici is French for "here". It's just lop-sided john k French. It's always a bit of a risk using foreign languages because of the grammar but there are times when I simply have no choice. Bear with me as I explain as briefly as possible:

Take the <beautiful> of <Beautiful Dreamer> in my recent Brian palindrome. This reverses as <lufituaeb>!! So, the <lu> became part of <Oulu> and <fi> became <FI>, the code for Finland, which is where the city of Oulu just happens to be! <Tu> is Latin for <you>, but first I had to find something for <aeb>. The only word in my Latin dictionary that began with those three letters was <Aebutius>, the name of several Ancient Roman dignitaries. So <beautiful> was reversed (with some questionable Latin grammar: should it be Aebutie?) as <...Oulu (FI). Tu, Aebutius...> Yes, friends, the life of a palindromist is not all fun and games.

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: Sheriff John Stone on May 29, 2016, 06:25:59 AM
I wanted to mention our family cat to see if anybody is having or had a similar problem. Our cat is a male indoor cat, rarely goes outside, and was fairly healthy for about fourteen years. Then he started to have coughing fits, these really intense one or two minute long hacking fits. I've had cats before so I thought it was a hairball problem (it looked EXACTLY like hairball coughing), so I picked up some hairball medicine and hairball "treats" at the pet store. After about a month or two of that treatment, there was no improvement. Also, he wasn't able to cough up the hairballs and I couldn't find any in the litter box, so I took him to the vet.

The vet diagnosed the cat as having cat asthma. Has anybody heard of that or experienced it with their cat? As I mentioned, the cat is violently coughing and hacking (and I guess gasping) and it is very painful to watch. Then he'll just lay there for a few minutes, kind of recovering from the coughing spell. The vet said that there is only two ways to treat cat asthma; it is not curable. They actually have cat inhalers, where you insert the inhaler in the cat's mouth and spray some medicine in. Well, our cat would never tolerate that; first of all you wouldn't be able to catch him; he'd be running all over the house! The second treatment is prednisone. I get these prednisone pills broken in half and I give the cat one half pill in the morning and one have pill at night. We try to hide the pill in his cat food, but the little bugger will see it and let it sit in the bowl. Then we have to literally pry his mouth open and drop it in there.

The predisone is expensive and, unfortunately, there are some side effects. The most common side effect is lethargy. If you think cats lay around a lot even when healthy, you should see a cat on prednisone. It is a little sad to see; he can be really sacked out; that's been the biggest change. But, he still eats the same amount and continues to use the litter box well. The prednisone has been somewhat effective. The coughing has been reduced but not entirely eliminated, he might cough two, maybe three times a day. If he's having a bad day we're allowed to give him another half pill. The vet insists the cat is not in pain; that's our main concern. The prednisone also helps to keep the lungs from being/feeling inflamed. The cat is now sixteen years old and we don't want to be selfish about this. We don't just want the cat hanging on and suffering. But the vet examines him regularly, and says that, other than the asthma, he is in good health. He is tolerating the prednisone well. Prednisone is supposed to be a short-term drug (although some cats tolerate better than others), but right now we just want to keep the cat pain free for the rest of his life.

Thank you very much for your post! If you don't mind, share picture of cutie. :police:

The previous family cats & my current cat never had such condition (knock 3 times). But I'm aware that pets can get symptoms of "human" illness. Maybe it's age, cats live average 10 years, wild cats even less. Maybe his immune system weakened. Regardless, I am glad that your cat doesn't suffer.

This is site of certified veterinarian that I usually use. It's very helpful. You can ask her this question & she will answer: http://www.askavetquestion.com/

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: NOLA BB Fan on May 30, 2016, 04:47:40 AM
We haven't had any cats with kitty asthma, but as RR said they can have many conditions that humans suffer from. My sister has a bunch of "rescue cats", and one has hyperthyroidism and needs medication.
Type 2 diabetes is a growing problem with cats, due to improper diet, and too many treats!
Well, RR, there are 5 cats in our household, only one who's less than 10 years old (she's 9 1/2). The others are 12; 13 or 14 (she showed up one day back in 2004 and according to the vet she was approximately 1 - 1 1/2 years old), 14, and 15. They are all in good health for the most part, although the oldest looks like she has a bit of arthritis.
For the cats we've had over the years, kidney failure is the illness that eventually sends them to cat heaven.

Thanks for posting! 5 cats - super! :3d How about pics? :police:  It would be nice to see real Smiley cats rather than google images (see the topic).

Hmm, I don't seem to recall what is hyperthyroidism. Maybe it's rare in cats? Idk. Can you explain?

Arthritis, yes, it is very common in old pets. I think in dogs too. Regarding average life expectancy, I'd say it depends what breed the cat is. But if we speak generally, 7-10 is average. For outdoor cats, it's 3 to 5.

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: NOLA BB Fan on May 30, 2016, 06:21:02 AM
The thyroid gland, among other things, regulates metabolism. With hyperthyroidism, the metabolism goes into overdrive, so weight loss is a major symptom, The kitty was small for her age, and very skinny.
One of these days I'll figure out how to upload photos. The oldest, Sai III, and the youngest, Tanner, are tabby cats (one gray, one brown). The second youngest, Tabitha, looks like a Maine Coon cat. Mr. Fuzzy, the only boy of the bunch, is all black except for some white "fuzz" on his chest. Finally, Princess, the one we're unsure of age-wise and Tabitha's mother, is gorgeous. She's a big cat, but squeaks more than meows. If you go to the English Wikipedia.org site and enter "tabby cat", Princess looks like the first cat pictured in the patterns section, only even prettier.

One of these days I'll figure out how to upload photos.

This is what I do, thanks to Swedish Frog aka Mendota Heights (and I'm cyberamus #1):

- Go to <http://postimage.org/>
- (I usually drag the image for uploading to the Desktop first)
- Then click on Browse to collect the image from the Desktop
- Resize for message boards
- Upload!
- You can then transfer it directly to Smiley by cutting and pasting the URL.

Hope this makes sense----and helps. ;=)

2NOLA BB Fan: Thanks for the answer. Now I see what it's. I usually prefer DSH (domestic shorthair) (there is also DMH, "m"=medium) but maine coons I think easy to deal with even if they aren't your typical lap cat. Besides, very unusual breed.
With john's assistance, you can post pictures now. I got the descriptions but seeing the cats would be nice. At least the pics saved in computer.

Hope this makes sense----and helps. ;=)

NOLA BBF, I've just visited that site and I see it's been updated. It seems you have to sign up for the new version.

But... just below the middle of that page are the words "Return to the old version". That old version still costs nothing and there are no strings attached. I just used it to upload an image to my other forum.

Hope this helps!

Love the plate, GF!

This is a very friendly stray cat that was hanging around outside our hotel that my daughter insisted we add to our menagerie.
She's named "Klowy" - my daughter misspelled it but insists on retaining that spelling.
My daughter often insists.

Hi, am having a lot of problems posting this. Not at my best, brain wise. Gotta remove the cobwebs!

Trying to show picture of my Dad's old calico cat, Sparky. She was his best buddy back 20 plus years ago. She loved to "help" with yard cleaning, especially if it involved leaves!
This picture was taken around 1995. She was relaxing in a planter my Dad was going to use. She smiled for the camera.
I imagine the two of them hanging out in Heaven now.

I'll try another one, since that one seemed to work.

This one is Boomerang (or BooBoo), our Miniature Australian Shepherd. He loves watching TV, especially animals. He goes nuts sometimes. That TV is relatively old, borrowed from a family member, because BooBoo destroyed the good TV when in all the excitement he banged his nose hard against it.

He tries to control the cats but they just ignore him, or, more often, tease him. They will act like they want to be friendly, then all of a sudden swat at him, hiss, etc. He just looks at me as if saying, Wha???

We used to have an Australian Shepherd who we found wandering on the highway, all full of heartworms, ticks etc. We got her well and she was with us for over 10 years. She had apparently worked on a farm, herding animals. When she arrived here, she must have thought that she was to herd the animals here. It was so funny, the way she moved around constantly, trying in vain to herd those pesky cats!

I've had cats over the years prefer to put their paws into the food bowl, take out some and put on the floor, then eat it. Have always thought that this was just quirkiness on their part.
Now, I've just found out something. Mr Fuzzy doesn't do that to be funny, cute, etc. He does it - due to Whisker Stress!
Poor baby. The bowls are not quite wide enough for his face, and when his whiskers touch the bowl it's very uncomfortable for him.
No wonder he always seems to prefer if the food is put on a flat plate.
Learn something new every day.

Great pictures!

Why do cats (or at least some cats) like to stick their face into shoes? I take off my shoes and Tanner immediately buries her face in one of them. I think, "Gross!" Why does she like my stinky shoes?
And when I take off my flip flops, she immediately sits on top of them. That can't be very comfortable?
But then, why do cats like to sit on newspaper, or try to cram inside the smallest boxes?

Tanner has the sweetest meow around me. But growls like a wildcat around the other cats. Guess she learned that as a kitten when she and her two brothers had to fend for themselves in the woods before I found them.

My cat alternates between dipping her paw in the water bowl and licking the water off that paw, and laying in front of the water lapping it up with her face in the bowl like "normal". I have no idea why, this is the first cat I've had who does this - But other cats I have seen have done the thing where they get the food with the paw versus going face-first into the dish.

I just saw an article last week about the reasons why cats always go for empty boxes and bags, it may have been on Jackson Galaxy's site, I can't remember. But i think the reason had to do with the instinct of cats to find shelter and maybe even a throwback to when they were kittens and secure with the mother cat in their "nest". I'll have to see if i can find that article again, it made perfect sense.

Here is my cat Lily. She's scared of the camera. She's scared of everything and everyone except things and humans she's been familiar with for at least a month or so. Once she's not scared, she's very affectionate and purry. But, after 8 years, she's still uncomfortable with being picked up or held, even by me. She just likes to be pet with a bit of distance between us. She was a feral kitten.

Nah, I don't have cats. Never have, seeing my dad is allergic. I could get one in my apartment, but that costs extra.

One of these days I'd like to get a pet, when I'm not as absorbed in school and finding a career. I'd hate to adopt a dog or kitten or something and not be able to properly take care of it.

We have five cats, which is probably too many (I think three would be my ideal). I cannot imagine life without them now, yet I didn't live with any cats until I met my wife in 2001. I miss not having any dogs, but have the compensation of being able to spend time with my friends' dogs, who are gorgeous.

Oh I didn't even realize it posted sideways, LOL! I did it from my phone and it displayed upright there. Thanks for correcting that :)

The story of these two goes thusly:

Mimi is the brown one. She's 10 years old, my first cat. Got her when she was about a year old, from a friend who couldn't keep her and needed to find her a new home. So she came to live with me. Loves to talk, sometimes at night very loudly, LOL. She's aware of everything. Back when we lived in an apartment building, she did everything she could to wake me up one night. Finally I got up and she lead me to the door. Opened it to hear that a smoke alarm was going off in one of the other units, but not for the main building. I went and got the superintendent and he went into the unit to find smoke. We all had to go outside and wait for the fire dept. to give us the call clear to go back in. But Mimi saved us that night!

The orange one is Penny-Lane. She's 5 years old, and was actually sent to us on an airplane from Manitoba, where a friend's cat had babies and she just wanted to get them to good homes. So she came to us as a very small kitten (8 weeks old) and I thought Mimi would maybe play mother to her, but didn't. Wasn't mean to her either, just kind of ignored her and hoped she would go away (I assume, lol).

Penny is more affectionate than Mimi and less meowy, but she's a bit of a bully to Mimi. Mimi is a doormat and lets Penny do anything she wants, including steal her food. Cat dinner time involves lots of watching of these two, and diverting Penny's attention so that Mimi can finish her dinner in peace. They don't always get along. But sometimes I catch them snuggling each other and that makes up for their "disagreements".

As far as breed, I think they are both mixed, of no particular lineage. They both have tabbyish markings so that's about it. Neither came from a breeder. Penny as I mentioned was born on a farm in Manitoba, and Mimi's origins are unknown - my friend bought her from a pet store. I try not to think of the conditions she might have come from. I'm home from work today, sick. These two could be snuggling with me to make me feel better, but nope. Maybe if I go back to bed.

Get well soon, SCZ. :=)
Thanks, JK. A touch of the flu I think. Everything aches. Here's hoping it's over quickly.

Cool pawst! Thanks, SCaroline Z!

"Penny Lane" is among favorite Beatles songs (I tend to like Paul's songs), sounds catchy as name. :D

Did you buy them baskets? Sleep in your room? Any cat furniture? Cat toys? Is Mimi docile now that she's big or been like that since she lives with you? Do you let them walk outdoors? Would like to chat (funnily, "chat" is French word for cat).

Regarding flu, it'll pass.

Ahhh I missed your reply, sorry about that. Spent the last couple days mostly sleeping but now I'm back at work. My eyes are still heavy.

Penny-Lane is in fact named after one of the best Beatles songs! She came to us already named Penny, and I added the Lane. I think it suits her. Funny thing about Penny - she fetches like a dog. Not even kidding. If you throw something, like a little balled up piece of paper, she'll go get it and bring it back and drop it so it can be thrown again. This is a game she started doing on her own, no training. I've never known another cat who does that!

We don't have beds for them per se, but we have this giant "cat condo" that takes up way more space in the living room than we can afford to spare, LOL. They use it during the day but sleep on the bed with the humans at night. Mimi still gets up in the night to roam the house hollering, for reasons I will never understand. She knows where we are. But I would definitely she she's a very docile cat. She complains verbally a lot, but has never lashed out violently, not even when my little niece and nephews go after her. Totally submissive little furball.

They both stay inside. There are feral cats in the neighbourhood and some of them are in really heartbreaking condition. I leave food out for them and I've been hoping I could get close enough to one in particular so I can capture it to take it to the humane society, but I've been unsuccessful so far. So it seems safer to keep mine in - safer for them, and for whatever other little critters are around.

Do you let yours out? I know some people do. My grandmother has always let hers roam the neighbourhood and they always seem to take care of themselves. Maybe I'm just a scaredy cat, LOL.

John would sing you've got "kaleidoscope eyes". :bw

Do you play frisbee with Penny-Lane? Many cats dislike bathing. What tricks you use to bathe pair? Who is your girlie & who is your husband's? Or do you like cats both equally?

Stray cats should be adopted by good people.

At granny's we had 2 cats - Scamback & Moore Zik (at different times). They both were into adventures - the black & white Moore Zik liked scaring dogs, they stood there like ashamed. Then ran away. My grandpa has motor boat, like everybody in town. He goes fishing & sometimes we would go to summer house/ dacha. I put the Moore to my backpack to not leave him alone in the house. Then we get in the boat & v-room, the next thing we're in the dacha. We let the cat out to forest to eat berries & some grass. He really liked nature & very brave. He once fought with forest cat. The poor won but at the expense of his cute little nose to be wounded a little. Then as we finished picking berries & mushrooms, we were about to ride back home. Couldn't find the cat, so we left message to the neighbors' dacha - it was mother's classmate's - that if she finds him & goes to town, she bring him to us. To cut it short, the cat got back. He was put to sleep whopping 10 yrs ago since then.

The cat that lives now is mischievous & obedient. Stays indoors but is not couch potato, will find sth. to do. It's city, hence not allowed to go due to city dangers.

Bathe them? Ha! Is it necessary unless they somehow become filthy? Thankfully I've never been in a situation where I needed to. They clean themselves! I dread the day I find them in need of a bath. I don't think either one would take it well. The only cat bath story I know is this: Penny-Lane's sister cat Iggy once jumped into a bucket of paint (so I'm told) and ran through my friend's house getting paint on everything before the cat was finally captured and hosed down in the tub. It was a traumatic day for all involved :lol

I had Mimi before I met my husband, so she is definitely my cat. Shes likes him enough to sit near him, but she will only sleep on me. To make up for it, Penny-Lane is his cat, all the way. She'll hang out with me when he's not around, but when he's home, she is either perched on his shoulder while he walks around or stretched out across his legs when he's sitting down. At night she sleeps on him. There is hardly a time when she's not attached to him in some way.

Yes, cats are super tidy but some people bathe them.

Iggy? She likes to pop? Joyful story, thanks.

What about frisbee? Do you play it with Penny-Lane? Mimi is definitely your type of cat, by way you described her she's girlie girl & Penny-Lane is flamboyant tomboy.

I guess I missed this one...

Frisbee as I know it is better played outside, and my cats stay in, so no, I've never played frisbee with them. I can just imagine the destruction if I tried that inside the house  :lol That's a pretty funny mental picture. Even though Penny is kind of a dog trapped in a cat's body, she probably would try to jump for it but I think she'd be pretty bad at catching it  :P

Haha, I don't know if Iggy is named after Iggy Pop but I'll ask my friend about it :) That would be cool if she is, and a good name for her.

Generally trips to the vet happen once a year or so. Penny had to go in recently for an eye infection and she got a full check-up then too so she's good for awhile now. Mimi's turn is coming up. She has to get her rabies shot again.

I'll return the favor, if it means anything.
I did reply to her cat question in "Welcome", it's been there maybe week, for her to catch it b4 deleting. Asked what her name sounds like - she didn't say, weirdly.

I should imagine it's Mah-ree but don't quote me on that. I've been pelted with rotten fruit for less. ;D

I always thought of her name as Mare-e.
Sorry, Will. John's the right one here. Emphasis on the "mah" part, just for clarification. I am no Marie!

I'd like to inform the forum that our new roommate has a cat. He's quirky and lovely and adores yarn.

And one of the songs is "Phenomenal Cat". Hope y'all will enjoy the video.

Ha! What's the difference? Idk, it doesn't seem big deal that some random guy - colleague's boyfriend! - looks like ugly dogman. Why care?

No - it's cat breed that's mixture of 2 pure breeds, hence the weirdness. The dog is clearly photoshopped. & why regret? It's not your boyfriend.

Can kind creature identify it? Right after that "mushmouth" chap, the lady at 1:45 plays piano & sings really nice tune. I'd like to know, it seems like piano standard. At 2:48, if the bed-ridden girl didn't laugh, I could hear words & find what she sings. Maybe smb. with super-sharp ears can get thru noisy laughter & hear them?

The bloke at 1:11 is trying, deperately, to sing "The Story of the Impossible". I can recognize bits and pieces but it's an unholy muddle. Here are the complete lyrics:

"Whatever happened to the great escape
The finest enemy.
Crafted with pride by monsters on the train.
The world is great to suckers

"We have the story of the impossible
A tale passed on so frail
One of make-belief
Maybe impossible to achieve
And really close

"Who sew the lion's hungry in the cage
With the confidance of a clown
The little man who rises on the stage
As he falls without a safety net

"We have the story of the impossible
A tale passed on so frail.
One of make-belief
Maybe impossible to achieve
And really close

"Whatever happened to the great escape
And all the plans we make
Crafted with pride by Monsters on the train.
The world is great to suckers.

"We have the story of the impossible
A tale passed on so frail.
One of make-belief
Maybe impossible to achieve
But oh so close"

This is the original by Peter Von Poehl:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdtVNxSPyws

The tune at 1:45 is "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bL2BCiFkTk

And for piano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUzX4tTy7FM

Hey thanks to quick reply! Well done. :thumbsup I'm glad to find that my ears hear well: you too say it's "unholy muddle". There's many synonyms to "young boy", thanks to mention "bloke".

Did any cat fans, this thread attendees see "Street Cat Named Bob"? It's about real people - busker James Bowen & cat. I managed to download it recently, after many tries - liked it! Stars Luke Treadaway as Bowen. Cat Bob as Bob the Cat. What to expect? Cat close-ups from every angle :) (you'll be sitting with big smile looking at Bob's cute face), "people thru cat's eyes" camera work, cameo by real Bowen at the book signing at the end, rolling titles with picture slideshow with Bob & him, sweet elderly lady knitting tiny cat scarf (2 patterns). Bottom line: the must-see.

Last night, with the dog at my feet and Mr Fuzzy purring on my lap, I watched Carole King perform Tapestry at Hyde Park. At one point she stood up and said "This is what 74 looks like." She looked good and sounded great.
following this was the Moody Blues performing some hits, then the whole of Days of Future Passed. I was trying to harmonize but sounded awful; thankfully kitty didn't attack me!
Maybe he fell asleep. :D Thanks to posting here, Liz. :)

Just passing on a tip to check out a fantastic film I just saw on Netflix to all the cat lovers out there. I may be the last person to know about this story, and it may have been discussed here too in the past, but...

It's called "A Streetcat Named Bob". Based on a true story, which I didn't know until after deciding to click on it and watch it because it had a cat in the film, the movie actually made my cry.

Anyone who likes a story about someone getting their ass kicked by life in general yet continues on with unexpected help from a loyal friend in the form of a stray cat that happened to wander into his life randomly one day...it's a great story and film. And it's about a musician too, extra points for that. Then I find out it was true, and there are books about it too which helped the real main character get out of the messes he was in...now i have to seek out the books.

Anyway, check out the film, especially if you like cats. It really made an impact on me.

It's good film, isn't it? :3d But yep, I did mention this film 1st :police: which amazingly nobody paid attention:

Yes! There he is! I went into the film on a whim, like I said deciding to watch it because it had a cat. After the credits were about to roll, I came away amazed that it was a true story...and just as amazed that this was the actual cat Bob from the true, real-life story, "acting" in the movie! Cats are notoriously difficult to work with in film or TV projects...and here was a stray cat playing himself in this film! Amazing.

Again, highly recommended. Great film, a simply amazing story. 5 paws out of 5.

Tell me about it - cat isn't dog who obeys every command, it's very tough to make cat do anything. But Bob is very natural, it's really spectacular! Check the interviews of making this film, what the leading actors say about working with Bob:

Luke Treadaway/ "James Bowen" & Ruta Gedmintas/ Betty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdibxGqZVAY
Real James Bowen about being amidst the making process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CM6c_Nhr0s

Besides, check the link I posted in the previous shout-out to the movie. Fun interviews.

Review of Cat Lady video 🐱

I thought it was bittersweet. There is no way I could have that many cats (in some cases, over 100). I would say that one of my sisters could qualify as a Cat Lady, as her life seems to largely revolve around them.
I do love my kitties, particularly Mr Fuzzy who is always by my side.

In lieu of getting more cats I contribute monthly to a Cat sanctuary and have food and other items shipped to them frequently.
And to show that I'm not quite a Cat lady, I also regularly contribute food, money, and blankets to our local Villalobos center - they specialize in rescuing pit bull dogs.

I like detailed reviews. But thanks.

Smb. in comments said the lady with glasses & 100 cats is cat "hoarder". It brings to zero her label "crazy cat lady". To me, the fave is the youngest lady with 16 cats. She sticks to them till the film's ending. The other lady with glasses & with accent, she suddenly changed the tune & said by the end that she actually doesn't like the way she lives  ::) & would like to get back to fam. In the beginning she said she left the business career to deal with cats. Nobody demanded "Do it!" - she chose it. Then to tell she doesn't like it is dumb. Sure, she's got pretty face, cute thin lips when she speaks, stylish glasses - but, since she's gotten suddenly sad, she isn't sincerely joyful at the start when she praises the cats.

This is a little lugubrious perhaps... An old schoolfriend of my partner's is a cat person and keeps them as pets. However, when they die she puts them in the freezer. She now has three in there. Perhaps her partner is a... well, let's not go down that road, not today anyway. ;D

Mr Fuzzy - 2001-2018

I've been nursing my dear cat for a while, but he has now gone on to cat heaven.
He and I had been through lots of ups and downs through the years. He was always a sweet, friendly little guy who everybody loved.
I'm going to miss him terribly.

Bad news of course but, the cat lived 119 years! Did he die due to natural causes or did he get ill? What did you nurse him for?
I too will miss Mr. Fuzzy. :( Liked the stories you shared about him.

Yes Mr Fuzzy lived a fairly long life (I say “fairly” because it’s becoming more common for indoor cats to live into their twenties). He had some health problems early on but had been healthy since early 2005. He was pretty active, loved to play and greet people, and was best buddies with BooBoo the dog. I took the photo in the avatar at the beginning of this year, a month or so before he started losing a lot of weight. The Vet thought it was a infection and not renal failure (the downfall of most of our cats).
We found a spot at our place in the woods to bury him this afternoon. I’ll plant some flowers there later.

Good guess, but it's actually from a  tapestry made by Dom Robert, a Benedictine monk.
He made beautiful tapestries depicting scenes from the Bible. This particular tapestry was from the Gospel of Luke when Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth. This little feline is known as "Magnifi Cat." ( the Magnificat is the prayer of praise Mary says during that visit).

A dear friend of mine had access to a button machine. He made a button of this kitty and gave it to me.

Listened to a delightful recording that is available online.
It's called Snoopycat and it consists of narration and songs by legendary American singer Marian Anderson, who was in her 60s when this was recorded but is in fine voice.
It's an homage to her cat.
It's supposed to be a children's album, but the story about a sweet, curious black kitten would appeal to all ages .

Mr Fuzzy was a,special cat  Early on a Saturday morning in November 2001 my 19.5 year old cat, Fou Minou, died in my arms . I found a shoe box to put her in, and left my house to go to our country place to bury her. Outside was a mama cat and her kittens. The mama and all but one of the kitties ran off. That one black kitten with the white fuzz on his chest who stayed was Mr Fuzzy

I couldn't take him in at the time as I was having a hard time dealing with another elderly cat who had feline dementia (she'd start screaming very loudly - not meowing, screaming - and I'd run to her thinking something was wrong. But nothing was wrong; she just wanted me to be with her.) Eventually I was able to let Mr  Fuzzy inside, but in the meantime I could hear him meowing outside, and one time he actually managed to get in my attic. Then he got up into a tree and meowed for me. I got him down and sat on the back step, holding him. He was purring away, licked my ear, and stole my heart.

NOLA BB Fan - So Mr. Fuzzy chose you. So sweet. He was a lucky kitty.

RRA1 - I'd always had dogs since I was 5 years old. They were always rescues of some sort who found their way into our lives. In 2010 my Dachshund died and three young cats were brought home by my three sons. I tried to find them homes, the shelters were full of kitties and I could not guarantee that they would be adopted, so...I made arrangements to have them spayed and neutered the following month. By then, the two females were pregnant and we ended up with six kittens and two adults. Franklin was not nursing and was being rejected by his mother, Sweetie, so I took him to the vet for care. He died the next day. When my son came home with his little body, the mother, who never went near the door, bolted out and into the street. She was killed by a car, leaving us with three one-week old babies to care for, 24/7. (The other mom, Isis, refused to nurse them - bitch!) I was proud of my sons, who were loving and responsible during their shifts. I found a home for one, leaving us with 6 in all. Arlo was a crazy boy who sneaked out of my fenced-in yard last fall and never came home. I hope that someone took him in - he was very personable and affectionate. Terrence died of an undiagnosed heart condition. I (kids are gone) now have 4.  Bronwen is tiny and looks like a kitten. She bullies and intimidates the other two girls, Isis and Mercy (both skittish, nervous Nellies), and keeps me up nights when she is in heat. Smokie, the father to the kittens, is dignified and remains above it all. For all of the heartbreak, mess, and noise, they have been and continue to be a comfort during a very rough time.

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: Buckethead on June 14, 2018, 04:15:34 PM
I actually don't have a favorite. I feel closest, however, to Isis Marie. She is so lacking in self-confidence and lives in perpetual fear of being stared
at by her niece, little Bronwen, that she lives on my kitchen hutch. She only comes down when I am on the sofa so that she can safely snuggle
with me. She knows that I will yell at Bronwen if she starts to cause trouble! Do you have a favorite kitty?

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: RangeRoverA1 on June 16, 2018, 05:28:48 PM
Bronwen's really cool name. It's little like Brunhilde, the girl in the legend about Siegfried.

Fave cat is current cat. Old family cats that passed by, they were jolly good as well. There used to live cat with white tummy, legs, arms & lower face but various hues of hazelnut in the back & upper half face. Smb. dubbed him you know what? Scamback aka Shcamback. Where they got it is big puzzle. It was good cat if angry at times. He could loudly mew if you didn't get him out to walk in street. He really liked walking, could go missing few days, then get back thru jumping to balcony. But he wasn't strong cat, couldn't fight dogs, would run away as cats do. & frankly, I didn't get attached to this cat much. The next cat I did. Many sweet cherished memories. He's generic "tuxedo" cat, i.e. black & white. I dubbed him Murzik (said "Moor-zick"). Murzik & Vasya - popular names here to dub tomcat. Murzik differed than Scamback. He's cuter, sweeter, yet mischievous. He didn't run away when seeing dogs - they ran, if not, didn't bite him, just stood there beside cat, ashamed, shy, puzzled, not daring to bark & attack the cat. Each summer, we used to drive in grandpa's motor boat to dacha, I carried Murzik in backpack, to change scenery for cat. He really liked being in nature, walking in forest. I'd see him casing the joint, looking around to get into adventure there. He'd observe the location. Past few days, we were about to leave, I didn't find Murzik, we went back without him. I didn't like it, said to mother can you ask smb. staying in dacha, the neighbors, find him & bring back to town? She rang former classmate who stayed in dacha. The lady said OK. & good news - she did. Swell sport, that cat. Today's cat is the best, by character he's mellow version of Murzik. He doesn't like being outdoors, instead being in safety in the house. But he does look for trouble. I'd like to get girl cat but hate dealing with separating mother & children when she gets knocked up (can't afford to live with many cats). Besides, family usually adopted boy pets (f.ex. there lived dog during "Murzik" era, boy too). It's been like this, loyal tradition, if you will. But really girl would be nice. Do you like when cats sit like bread? Is catloaf your fave cat pose? Don't you think they look adorable, just like this smiley :D?

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: Buckethead on June 16, 2018, 06:24:22 PM
Oh, what a cool story about the backpacking kitty! I can just close my eyes and visualize the who thing - car trip, dacha, adventures in the woods. I like the "bread"pose. My Mercy does that a lot. My male cat's occasional sleeping position is more striking, where he lies on his back with front paws straight up in the air and legs spread apart. I know, a bit porno-like, but very cute. Bronwen is a Welsh name that means white-breasted.She looked all black at birth, but a couple of days later (and after I named her), I saw a white spot on her chest. It's much easier when a cat is happy indoors. My veterinarian told me, though, that some just seem to be happiest when they are permitted to frolic in nature and explore. Still, I worry. Smoky always comes back, but his son never returned last September. I'm hoping that someone took him in - he loves people and is quite affectionate and fun. I enjoy having my female cats, having only human sons and brothers. BTW, I've been reading a great deal about the Romanov's extended family. Grand Duke Nicholai Mikhailovich had his kitty with him during his captivity with his brothers, nephews, cousins. He carried it with him to his execution, handing it to one of the captors just before he was shot and asked that the man take care of it. Joy, Tsarevichalexei's dog, who accompanied him and the Tsar to visit soldiers in military hospitals (he was the first therapy dog, I'm thinking) was the only other family pet to survive the executions. A White Army officer recognized Joy in the town (having visited the Alexander Palace many times) and took the dog to give to George V. Joy lived on the king's estate for the rest of his life.Gotta love our furry friends! Do you/have you had any dogs?

Well, it's not dog topic but since you ask, the family did have dogs - 3 dogs in different times. My favorite used to be the dog during the "Murzik" era. He's very joyful, mischievous like Murzik & he too was intimidated by the cat. They got along famously, kind of. He's complete white, with tail going cartwheels or what it's called, the round upwards tail? His name was if you translate Fluffster. He used to run around biting people sometimes but with zero malice, he just couldn't get his energy & joy into sth. good. Grandpa disapproved & even planned to shoot him with hunter's gun. But granny made him at the last minute to change mind. Thus he didn't shoot. Then truck ran Fluffster & he died. Maybe he got too enthusiastic & didn't check the road. I wouldn't adopt dog now since I live with cat, can't afford taking care of 2 pets. It's jolly expensive. Cat will do. Besides, I like cats better than dogs. Back to topic, you got funny cat stories to tell? Yours or smb. else's?

Title: Re: Cats

I have a couple of funny cat stories.

My sister and her husband were looking for their kitten, Turbo (my brother in law likes cars; they had another cat called Porsche). Where was Turbo? My sister opened the refrigerator and there he was, contentedly eating food in one of the containers. They had no idea how he got in there . To add - he was INSIDE the food container!

I would go to my bedroom and find shoes on top of my bed. I would never do that - how did they get there? Then one day I burst out laughing as I saw my dear Fou Minou struggling mightily carrying my big shoe in her mouth across the room.

NOLA BB Fan - The shoe story is adorable, the fridge story is just hilarious!  My cats were never that crafty.

RRA1 - Sorry- boat ride. Your Fluffster sounds like he loved life - an example for us all!  Here are two cat stories. Two of my males loved my printer. They would sit, one on either side, waiting for the paper to come out and put a paw on it to guide it . After a bit, I would just say, "Wanna print?" and they'd assume the position with great anticipation. My kitty, Bronwen, is the only one not spayed. Last summer, a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses came to my door. I am a sucker who just can't be mean, so I let them come in. Bronnie was in heat. Screaming her head off, she rubbed her bottom on the leg of one of them and would not stop. I attempted only half-heartedly to put an end to it, as I had hoped that this would hasten their leave. My planned worked after 10 minutes (I''m usually held hostage for a good half-hour or so). Good girl.

Fave tales - printer & shoe. Buckethead, what do you give cats to eat? Special cat food, sth. at the table? I buy "Royal Canin", cat edition. It used to be food to dogs but they expanded & began manufacture the cat ration.

RRA1 - I've always fed the girls a cheapo-brand of dry food called Dad's and they do fine. I've always had to feed my boys Hill's Science Diet Urinary Formula because they repeatedly got urinary blockages, even with canned food. It costs a whole lot for a little bag, but it works and avoids trips to the vet (which isn't cheap, either).

2Buckethead: Will you bring favorite cat phrases? To me, it's "cat's meow". It's used to tell when you like song, song bit etc. If you forget any good niceties to tell neighbor lady that she looks super in new dress, just say "Wow, it's cat's meow!". It'll work. Don't thank me. :D

I often think to myself when I look in the mirror in the  morning, "Look what the cat dragged in!" I think that the "cat's meow" phrase is a very Roaring Twenties Jazz Age saying. I've used it with older people, who seem to really like it. If I'd say it to younger ones, such as my students, they'd
say that I was "outta pocket!"  I have a poster of Pavlov trying to control a bunch of cats (recognizing that his theories are probably more applicable to dogs and humans - there was a reason why he did not do his experiments with cats!).

“Name the different kinds of people,’ said Miss Lupescu. ‘Now.’Bod thought for a moment. ‘The living,’ he said. ‘Er. The dead.’ He stopped. Then, ‘... Cats?’ he offered, uncertainly.”

Winston Churchill loved his kitties and always had at least one, enjoying their company especially when dining alone. One visitor described a lunch during which Yellow Cat sat in a chair, next to the PM, as he was fed mutton. Like me, he engaged in meaningful conversations with them and expressed remorse when he had to chastise them for any reason. He once swatted one with a newspaper, after which the cat ran off.  After a few days, he had his daughter ask his secretary to put a card in the window stating "...if Cat cares to come home, all is forgiven." The kitty did return and was treated to generous servings of salmon and cream. When Churchill was nearing the end, his beloved Jock was with him. He made provisions for the cat to be cared for at his Chartwell estate. I am told that a sixth generation Jock greet visitors there today.

Sweet tale! :D Nice to see Winston Churchill likes cats alongside pigs, he said this phrase "I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals". Isn't it clever phrase?
Will you list famous people's quotes about &/ or mentioning cats?

Poe said, "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." He loved cats. When his wife was dying of TB, he kept his Cattarina in bed with her because he could not afford to keep her room warm.

I thought it touching to read the account of Julia Child's passing. The article stated that her cat, "Minou," was sleeping with her at the end.

Some quotes I like:
Mark Twain: "If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat. "

Ernest Hemingway, who had some 6 toed cats (lots of descendants at the house in Key West): "No animal has more liberty than the cat, but it buries the mess it makes."

NOLA BB Fan:  I wish that my cats did something with the mess they make! I am surprised to hear that Julia Child slept with her kitty; she strikes me as too proper for that. More and more hospices, and even hospitals, are looking the other way or even permitting pets to visit with their owners. Some of my cats (and all of my dogs in the past) seem to know when they are needed to comfort me when I am sick or depressed.

I have a cat who wants to stay outdoors. I made a truce with her to let her go outside but she has to come in at night (there are coyotes roaming in my city and a number of cats and small dogs have gone missing over the years).
She gets her revenge by doing her business outside the litter box. But she scoops a bit of litter from the box to cover her poop. I can't help but chuckle when she does that.

About comforting me, my dear Mr Fuzzy could sense when I was down or under the weather and would get super lovey dovey with me. None of the other cats do that. Thankfully BooBoo the dog also seems to sense that a little TLC is needed.

Julia Child was a famous US chef who popularized French cooking in our country. She had a cooking show on TV for many years. There was a movie about her some time back starring Meryl Streep.

TLC - "tender loving care"

Yes when our dog comes to me and opens his mouth, tongue hanging out, little tail wagging - he sure looks happy.

NOLA BB Fan - Yes, it's not the norm for kitties, as least in my experience, to be nurturing types in the same was most dogs are. But isn't it sweet when they are? You mentioned coyotes in your area. We have them as well in PA, but I've also heard of owls carrying away cats and very small dogs out of backyards. Regarding Julia Child, I have fond childhood memories of watching her on TV. My brothers and I would make endless fun of her cheerful earnestness as she tried to make things like tongue seem palatable.

RR A1 - TB is tuberculosis. Sorry - the old nurse in me says things such as CA as cancer, URI as upper respiratory infection, etc.  I'll try to avoid
abbreviations and slang that are less than global.

2Buckethead: you replied to NBBF by agreeing that cats wouldn't be described as nurturing types. To rephrase what you said, isn't it sweet that cats differ than dogs? Isn't cats' aloofness adorable? :D Don't tell no. :police: Cats don't nurture as dogs. So what? Why should they, ha?

RRA1 - I do appreciate the differences between cats and dogs. Yes, Kittie aloofness is adorable.  i have had a couple, however, who were quite like dogs in this regard, probably because they were raised my family from a few days old. I also like when cats are aloof but they cannot stand
it when they think a person (or dog) is the same.

Which music do your cats like to listen?

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: Buckethead on July 10, 2018, 03:34:38 PM
I really love cats and dogs equally. My kitties seem to enjoy my kids' Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Cannibal Corpse songs. This is probably because it is played at a decibel level that is physically stimulating and they start scratching furniture. Or, maybe it makes them nervous and that is why they scratch? Hard to tell. They don't react one way or another to Beach Boys music. Do your cats have favorite musc? How in the world do you tell what they like/don't like?

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: RangeRoverA1 on July 10, 2018, 06:23:16 PM
When people say they like this & this equally, it doesn't make sense. Ditto when people say they love their whole fam. I don't, frankly, get it. By my logic, it's impossible. There must be favorite fam members & everybody else you don't much care about. Now, treating everybody equally, this IS possible & should be.

Cat's favorite music is classical music, esp. piano. & he likes symphonies, esp. mellow. To tell if cat likes/ dislikes music is very easy - likes, starts blinking eyes in relaxed way; dislikes, cat starts being anxious. Just look at cat's face, I'd say.

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: NOLA BB Fan on July 11, 2018, 01:51:36 PM
To Jay - I'm so sorry about the loss of your cat. :-(

Cats are fascinating - they can be so sweet, then suddenly turn "wild", showing that they are not nearly as domesticated as dogs. A dog will obey me if I tell him to do something. A cat will ignore me unless there's something in it for her.
My cats haven't seemed to react to music, other than not liking anything with flutes.
My dog doesn't like The Piper at the Gates of Dawn album.

I make sure to have flower arrangements in the house, particularly when my Mother is here. We also bring in flowers from outside when in bloom - we have gingers blooming now that have  a wonderful fragrance. Also tea roses,  and gardenias and amaryllis in the Spring. I however have zero luck with flowering plants in the house. African violets stop blooming after a while, and bringing orchids into the house is a death sentence for them. I don't water them correctly, I guess.
Green plants are great for indoors and can last many years. They help clean out the bad stuff from the air.
As for our cats, we don't have problems with them eating the fresh flowers. However we had a cat that would chew on dried flower arrangements then get sick.
When I buy flowers I have to take out any grasses that are included. I don't know how safe they are for cats, as they probably sprayed chemicals in them. I sometimes keep a long strand of grass so that the cat can bat at it.
I do let the cats out for a while in case they want to chew on some of our grass - we don't spray any chemicals on our lawn.
Cats are carnivores. They will eat some grass - maybe the grass has some nutrients the cat needs, or perhaps the cat wants to get rid of a hairball.
I have to go out for the day. Will look at the videos later on.

Tanner the cat was chewing on some houseplants and got a little sick today. She threw up in her basket (the one in my avatar). When I came home I found out that my sister threw it away.
Kitty really loved that basket . She wants to be with us but my Mother understandably doesn't want her lying down on the dining room table. So I put that small basket on the table and Tanner made it her own, stretching it to fit her.
So I'll have to find her another basket. I had spent a grand total of one dollar on that basket at the dollar store. Hopefully they will have more available . Meanwhile I have a shoebox that she can use.

Checked out this thread. Cool pictures of cats. Loved the story about Mourka and the other day doing their part during the horrible Battle of Stalingrad.
My oldest sister gave me a postcard she had bought while in London a few weeks back. It's a black and white picture of a kitten relaxing on a hammock.
The caption reads: "The kitten mascot of the aircraft carrier HMS Eagle in the hammock made for her by the ship's sailmaker."
Can't figure out how to post it from my Kindle Fire Tablet, but it's similar to the other pictures of the hammock kitties (difference being that only the kitten is in the picture, no people).

Edit: changed avatar briefly so that pic could be seen.

Which cat pics did you like the best? It's fun when I share pics, that people tell which they liked exactly. You know, that's the idea. Would like to see postcard, can't you show it via desktop? Forget tablet/ Kindle-sth. Ta in advance.

Edit to N's edit: It's blurry, can't see cat's face well which is important. Can then you do by things I said?

I don't have access to a desktop right now. She's just a regular sweet little kitten.
I'll try to get access to a computer but that might be a while.

The favorite pics would be the cat sleeping on the caps; that's what my cats would do.
The other fave is the cat up on the ladder, watching the guy at work (or is the guy playing with the cat?)

It's the guy teaching cat to use ladder. Each pic in the site captioned & dated. I'd written the general timeline instead (since 18.. to 19..).

I would figure that it would be a lot easier for kitty to go up the ladder then to come down.

Caption says the sailor teaches cat to use ladder, it doesn't tell up/ down detail. It's serious site, about sailing with cats, you'd seen pic with cats trained to do things dressed as nurses, Mississippi. They helped people in ships. It isn't fun pic site with goofy captions made by Internet users. Pics shared here with captions to be believed 100%. If you doubt, you can. But it's true history.

?????
I guess you misunderstood me. I wasn't questioning whether it was a serious site.
Was simply pointing out that cats have an easier time climbing up things then coming down them. And I figure that a ladder would be particularly difficult. So I assume that the sailor helped the kitty get down. Then after a while the cat got the hang of it and went up and down with no problem.

Yup. That about covers it. However, MY cats would never say "I is," LOL.
Calling the cat "such a ham" means that kitty wants to be involved in everything, to be noticed. Which means that kitty is doing funny things.

Thanks for this. Very interesting. Fort Payne is a town in Northern Alabama that's called itself the "sock capital" because of the factories there making socks. It's a beautiful area - there's a nearby state park we've gone to several times, that has waterfalls and gorges.

What the band is playing is music from Scheherazade, a favorite of mine. "To build a wonder" looks like it refers to some fantasy game that I'm not familiar with but I see references to it using search engines.

I love marching bands. Wish I could have been in one. My Father played trumpet in his band, and my mother played trombone in hers.

Cool. Why didn't you? Is to start marching band in each school requirement? To get pupils to join, competition starts between schools which is best band et al?
Reading FB daily there's been Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. It's to rmbr pets that passed. Many who tell about it say that cat/ that dog crossed rainbow bridge. Popular cat literally each popular cat page discussed - Grandpa(w) Mason, cat with kidney issues that lived longer than been predicted but recently passed & everybody paid really nice tributes, saying many kittens went thru him, he educated them, took care about them, kittens really bonded with him, got attached to Mason & he helped them. Great cat. Is it American thing to say it? Why rainbow? Bridge?

Discovered new cat item names - familiar with these?
crate
Assisi treatment bag (exclusive to Manx syndrome cats? Generally?)
playpen
trending now Halloween house
I especially liked huge shoe/ sneaker in which cat hops to to sleep, cooler bed than basket.

Mentioned favorite page by nice lady "Scooter Bug & Princess Tinkerbell", 2 cats with Manx syndrome, she lives with the other, healthy, cats & she stated ginger cat Pumpkin is very jumpy due to being bullied/ scared/ jumped at "without any reason" by everybody else in feline fam. Why she? Million dollar question. The lady says Pumpkin got very insecure, turns back many times to see nobody's standing/ hiding there. & the lady feels very bad about her that she in fact doesn't let her be with the other cats, she's isolated in different space. Lady read positive reviews towards special device in Amazon - "the Jackson Galaxy bully remedy set", trio set which includes "self-esteem bottle she needs to help her". Try to figure what this even looks like/ entails. In which way it's going to make cats quit bullying Pumpkin. Anybody dealt with it when single cat in cat fam (say, 3-8 cats in fam bully the 4-9th) been picked as victim? Tell.

I wasn't in a marching band because there wasn't one at my school.
If we had one, I would have liked to try to play the clarinet.
My school did have a choir. I didn't sing in it, but accompanied it by playing various percussion, xylophone, guitar, and alto recorder. Helped me to get an "Honors" grade in music.

Cats - am familiar with "crate." Another word for cat carrier, or kennel ( cage to keep cats in).

Rainbow Bridge - The thought that at the end of the rainbow good things happen. So when our pets cross the "rainbow bridge" it is hoped that they are going to be happy and healthy once again.

That's a good question, how to stop bullying in cats. I love Tanner, but she wants to be the number one cat so would get snippy around all the other cats. Jackson Galaxy has had success with "bad" cats. I'd be curious to check it out.
Haven't had the experience of one cat family bullying another. In fact, the worst bullying I had to put up with was two sisters, Tasha and Shana. Poor Shana was a little "slow" and Tasha was merciless around her. Had to make sure they were separated as much as possible.

P.S . My present temporary avatar (as of 4 Oct 2019) is of aviation pioneer John Moisant and his cat Mademoiselle Fifi. Picture was taken in 1910.

Is it requirement that school gets marching band? Is it exception to rule when school didn't get marching band to represent school in inter-school competition? Is it by definition that school in U.S. starts it?

I meant - what does Jackson Galaxy look like? As I stated, the FB lady mentioned there being bottle. There is many things in it than just bottle. Question's - what's it?

Ta. Did intend to ask the ava image query. Yet you answered 1st.

Do you buy cats Halloween fancy garments?

Title: Re: Cats

I went to an all girls high school. Some girls schools (such as my Mom's school) have bands but most in our area do not. We had a choir, also some sports teams - Volleyball, basketball, softball.
I remember that Dominican High School was our main competition in basketball . We would chant, "DominiCAN'T! DominiCAN'T!" Unfortunately, they could. Never could beat them  :-D

Don't know about a bottle. Hard to describe what Jackson Galaxy looks like. Let's just say that he's one of a kind. He's totally bald (or maybe just shaves his hair off), long sideburns and a wild beard. But it would be hard to find a greater cat lover.
Read that his wife's name is "Minoo" (a common name for cats where I live).

I don't put garments on my pets - they hate wearing anything.

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: RangeRoverA1 on October 07, 2019, 07:48:07 PM
Actually, school marching band question is general question. I'd seen in many-many-many films where this & that U.S. state school got marching band to which various pupils joined. I wished to know if it's true or not. Hence the question "Is it requirement...?", "Is it exception...?". You state at school you went band didn't exist. Is it rare when it's like that? I meant not just Louisiana but *generally U.S.*.

Jackson Galaxy is human?? Puzzled. :ahh Again, FB post I quoted by the lady previously:
"Lady read positive reviews towards special device in Amazon - "the Jackson Galaxy bully remedy set", trio set which includes "self-esteem bottle she needs to help her". Try to figure what this even looks like/ entails."
Pay attention she said "bully remedy *set*". & "self-esteem bottle".

Then you said Jackson Galaxy helps "bad" cats. It read like you used that JG bully remedy set, just like the lady, i.e. you're familiar with it when looking to help your cats. That's when I asked what it looks like. I'd like to know exactly what this JG bully set is. I can't believe all this time JG been human. But why would she call it "bully remedy set", keyword "set", about which she read positive Amazon reviews?

Today I found abbreviation POTP. Some cat in human voice (via their human parent, obviously, but such sweet thing when cat "talks" :D ) in FB said he needs POTP today. I found in comments to the post it means "power of the paw", cats use it as good wishes to them by FB followers, cat fans. Did you know it?

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: NOLA BB Fan on October 08, 2019, 02:54:06 AM
I'm not familiar with "POTP." But then I'm not up on a lot of things nowadays.

I think most High Schools have marching bands. They play at their team sports events and March in parades. There are some schools however that have dropped Music programs due to lack of money.

I looked up what that "bottle" was. It's a bottle with a dropper in it. If you want a cat to calm down, place a few drops on its fur and rub it in. The bottle contains herbs that calm cats down - but the info didn't list the herbs. Some cats apparently are allergic to those herbs so caution is needed when using for the first time.

Yes, Jackson Galaxy is a real guy. He has a show on television, maybe you can find clips of it online. It's called My Cat From Hell. He takes cats who are so bad that their owners are about to get rid of them, and turns them into adorable fur babies.

Jackson Galaxy must live in Catland. I shall get him tickets to it.

Each facebook cat page mentions these cat foods - "Chewy" & "Weruva". They state they're very nutritional, got many digest-sensitive options AND emphasize each brand provides the best customer service. Do you feed cats with it? If yes, agree with each point?

I didn't even *hear* these food names, cat foods advertised here - "Whiskas", "Friskies", "Darling", "Royal Canin", "Purina", "Kitekat".

Recent fave cat pic - family went kayaking, took cat with, snapped pics in which cat sits/ looks in different sides, f.ex. stares at river in trance, dressed cutely with what looks like dark-blue vest. D'aww! I like checking cat profile, what lovely nose (saying it "lyavly n'awz") with cute mouth ("meowff").

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: NOLA BB Fan on October 10, 2019, 07:06:41 PM
I'm really not familiar with Weruva. Chewy is actually a company that ships dog and cat food and other products. I think the shipping doesn't cost anything if enough products are ordered. I am tempted to start using this. I have a bad back, lots of pain, and it would be so much better to have heavy bags of food and cat litter delivered instead of having to carry them inside.

I sometimes use Friskies wet cat food. The dry made one of my cats sick. For dry I use Purina for Indoor Cats. I've heard of Whiskas but haven't used it. Not familiar with the other brands.

Youtube got full film "The Uncanny" (1977) with ailurophobe Peter Cushing & cat fan Ray Milland (he indeed may REALLY like cats since he starred few decades back in "Rhubarb", film about sports team & titular cat being their luck pet. I posted it previously). 3 cat tales in single film. The killer cats! :3d It's hilarious at times, the way cats attack by cutely jumping at people, hahaha! Sweeties. :D Then in cat tale 3 there's really calculating & sly cat - guy (Donald Pleasence) & his mistress talentless actress poisoned milk, put traps with fish & such to get rid of cat. But he sits there without touching food. To revenge  >:D, cat gets to studio, kills them both by basically doing nothing but getting in the way & startling. Purrfect! Here's link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7CzDrmEy4YY

It bookends with beautiful limericks:

"He leaps and lightly
Walks upon sleep, his mind on the moon.
Nightly over the round world of men,
Over the roofs go his eyes and outcry."

(Ted Hughes)

"And gaze into your gazing eyes
And wonder in a demi-dream
What mystery it is that lies
Behind those slits that glare and gleam."

(Giles Lytton Strachey)

Ain't it apt description towards feline race? I'd say *jolly* apt. Hit the nail.
1st limerick starts intro credits set to tip-toeing light pawsteps-like mystic suspenseful macabre music which to these ears really fits film's subject - evil stereotypes about cats & superstitions (speaking about, I read in FB such really weird thing that people hesitate to adopt *black* cats in shelters, that they still got bad rep. Poor darlings end up living in shelters years & years, then when they're senior do smb. adopt them. Stupid & brutal).
Film intro, besides such cool music, starts with beautiful cat paintings, in kinda Louis Wain style (yet not really). Check it out, film is in pretty good video quality, not too blurred as many youtube films.

Edit: Pay attention that either people who stand by or against cats here look kinda like cats. I, being cats' admirer, catch it easily when smb.'s got feline features. Ray Milland's eyes & demeanor really resemble cat's. & 1st tale starrs my fave British/ general beauty Joan Greenwood - marvellous thespian with refined British English speech. Theatrical yet fitting character she plays. She's beautiful due to cat-like elegance. She can be likened to cat in many ways, sly smile with sly eyes, beguiling & deceitful.
NBBF mentioned b4 she enjoys British accents, 2 main characters will be feast to her ears. Ditto 1st tale, "London 1912" with mentioned actress.

Yes, cats great to live with. & pet.

Subscribed to cat page recently - "Josephine Quirky Cat". Master's name's Diane. She lives in Canada & ljnked to blog with similar title. It's about cat with mood changes, she's not very friendly, difficult cat, thus she's "quirky cat". She tells about what that's like to live with such cat, very interesting to read. She tells whilst it isn't picnic to live with Josephine, she CAN be good, playful & such. It's nice to see Diane didn't give up, didn't give away cat to shelter. Many people with difficult cats, when they realize it, quickly do precisely it - give cats back. It's really maddening to read such cases.

Thank you for your kind words.
Cancer thank goodness doesn't run in my family. (knock on wood!) My Mother died partly because her heart was starting to have problems, and her lungs were really messed up, making it difficult to breathe. Strange - both of my parents died from lung disease, and neither one of them smoked.

Yes, having a pet is a huge commitment that shouldn't be started without thinking it through . If one is adopting a cat from a shelter it might have been abused in some way by the previous owner. The cat is probably not "bad" but actually afraid :-(
That's why I haven't adopted any more cats after some of my older cats passed away. with the craziness at home I wouldn't have been able to take care of another pet.

Thank you so much, John.

Mari, I had moved in with my Mother at her house. This was the house we all grew up in.
It's a fairly big house and too big for one person. Also the taxes are supposed to be going up a lot (The taxes had been lower because my Mother was elderly and her taxes hadn't gone up). And the flood insurance cost is crazy. So the bottom line is that I can't afford to live there. So we will start the process of cleaning out the house.
I will start moving my stuff (including LOTS of books) to the house in the woods . That house was left to me. At some point I'll bring the dog and cats.
My oldest sister, husband and 2 horses live next door in a house down the hill. One other sister who is ill might move in with me. She has lots of cats  (too many cats for her to care for but she won't part with any of them). So I will be close to family.

Yes, figured you don't stay there. Hence question. I'd read people can't live single in big houses. Say they hate it. Living in short distance with fam is fine decision. House will be cleaned & sold then. Make sure cats travel safely to new house. They're too good.

Dawn, pretty lady who runs Rocky Road's page, is very caring mom to Rocky, if spoils him little bit but hey, it's cat. She took him in 2018 to meet Santa - isn't it sweet? :D Here's pic featuring cute as button Rocky with prettiest legs in town!:

(https://z-p3-scontent-waw1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/fr/cp0/e15/q65/76756986_2613191755581711_7092879094794158080_n.jpg?_nc_cat=109&efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9&_nc_oc=AQnemxPFGOQPkhimhutVHZxzJeo7fmF15z7GqCZg7w4IkS2pK73wp4LMzw5R5YMAm5Q&_nc_ht=z-p3-scontent-waw1-1.xx&oh=6d8bac9ad831f6dfc809d37349188151&oe=5E6200FB)
She says Rocky "loved" it"!" She treats him like her child (yet she's got daughter, husband & the other cat-2). It's sunny & fun FB page. Lotsa joy & smiles. Thing is, Rocky's special cat, his back legs don't walk, he drags them behind but thanks to Dawn's pawsitive cattitude, Rocky doesn't pay attn to it,got used to it & she creates (lil tradition) "running videos" - short clips/ vines when she's in kitchen yelling "Rocky Ro-oad!", to which Rocky runs real fast with his 1st legs. It's very cute. I.e. she tries to train Rocky's leg muscles by running, that he can be fast like 4-pedal-altogether cats.

BIG REQUEST PEOPLE. Please support financially these poor pets that suffer - ANY help matters, be it just 5$ or 10$ (or which currency is in place you live) - many disabled cats & dogs, seniors, with bad diagnoses, severely wounded - 179 animals that share little house in post-war Lugansk, recent tragedy, taken care of by just 1 lady who is veterinarian (really amazing heroic lady who didn't escape, instead she stayed with animals, didn't leave them behind). Here's the crucial post (with pics/ video in comments):
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1190214004523266&id=329656977245644 Looking at pics you'll see in what terrible state they are.  :( Annually, they collect any financial help by world together ("vsem mirom" translates like that). This year they will collect anything - old toys people don't need anymore, medicine, blankets, mini-houses, diapers - everything for pets.

The organization is with clean reputation which they proved; each documentation, financial report can be checked here: http://fond-vsem-mirom.ru/%D0%BE%D1%82%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%82%D1%8B.html?fbclid=IwAR3hwn5FFeiEgqVlZB7jMLYi22Bhx1NnaYfy4kSZagfVhfKCO-bKzHig2VM

Please don't pass it by, folks living in the other countries. They're living breathing creatures who wish to get healthy, be fed, safe. I went to ask charity's curator how people living in the other countries can donate money. She answered that via paypal. If you got pay pal, please donate to this address: julia349@yandex.ru

Thank you everybody in advance! If anybody repost it in different sites/ pages - it'll be huge help. Thanks again.

FB built in auto-translation. It should translate any language post immediately or by clicking "See Translation". Here's paypal (again): julia349@yandex.ru

HELP cats (including few dogs), don't pass by living breathing creatures suffering freeze, food/ medical supplies deficit (many need diapers, serious treatment, especially seniors & pets with various disabilities). People like to be kind in the Internet...yet they refuse to help animals. Each little bit people pay MATTERS. Payment accepted till mid-December (it may-mayn't be delayed till new year but they planned it to be New Year gift to each pet).
Many posters with pets here - i.e. sympathetic towards pets. It would be really decent if/ when they donated. Thank you.

Hello I am trying to save one of my 2 remaining cats who is sick. Can't figure out what's wrong.
Could be partly old age - she's at least 16 1/2 years old. But Vet says her heart, lungs and kidneys seem to be okay.
Have spent several hundred dollars on tests.
Not sure when I can donate - will do when I can.

Title: Re: Cats

My other cat is 13. It would be too difficult to separate them where I'm at right now. I make sure that there's enough space between the spaces where they eat.
I think my cats would be scared of Santa .
They like to play but it's difficult to get toys for them . The dog is insanely jealous of I play with the cats even though I play "fetch" with his toys . I get toys for the cats and the dog chews them up.
So if I want to play with cats I try to use some strong or ribbon while the dog is preoccupied or is in the back yard .

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: RangeRoverA1 on December 08, 2019, 07:32:48 AM
Do you think dog could be jealous due to singleness? Cats friends yet dog's got nobody. Did you think to adopt friend?

Would you say cats that live/lived with you clingy/ mommy's boy/girl or it's independent cats? You grew each to be with less attachment to you?

If you been demanded to choose - even if toughie - who'd you be the favoritest/ dearest cat?

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: NOLA BB Fan on December 08, 2019, 01:44:32 PM
They have three distinct personalities. No way could I pick just one.
The one who's sick was the most independent. What bothers me is that she had become more clingy with me. As if she wants me to do something for her. Wish I could speak "cat."
I was thinking of getting another dog but can't do it now. I would have to wait until settled permanently at the country place.

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: RangeRoverA1 on December 16, 2019, 10:49:48 AM
Thanks, you answered clearly that dog's indeed jealous he's single, yet cats 2. Gotcha. ;) People usually say that dogs nice & friendly but it ain't the case 100%. Anybody would be fool to disagree with it.

I meant cats, past & present, ALL cats, who is the favoritest/ dearest cat to you? Can't you tell? Surely it ain't secret. :police:

Title: Re: Cats
Post by: NOLA BB Fan on December 16, 2019, 02:54:29 PM
I honestly don't think I can pick a favorite.
I got Fou Minou on July 1, 1982. There was a group of six week old kittens. All the others were very outgoing . Minou, a black and white ( "tuxedo") long haired kitty, was very shy. That's why I picked her. She and I became very close. She loved to play "fetch." I'd toss a little red rubber ball across the room and she would retrieve it and bring back to me. When I walked outside she would follow me. I probably could have put a leash on her and taken her for walks. She was a lap cat who curled up in my lap at night while I was watching TV or reading.
On November 10, 2001 she indicated to me somehow that she was ready to leave me. I can't explain it. Anyway I spent the evening with her and she passed away in my arms around 0500 the next morning.
I found a shoebox to put her in. While walking out the door I encountered a mama cat and her kittens. All but one ran away, but one looked like it wanted to be friends with me. To make a long story short, this kitty was persistent in wanting to be with me. I took Mr. Fuzzy into my home. He was such a sweetie pie.He comforted me after Hurricane Katrina. He was so friendly  to visitors. He was best buddy with our dogs Honey and later, BooBoo. He and BooBoo would greet each other by rubbing noses and grooming each other. He was also a lap cat. But he mysteriously became ill and we couldn't find out the cause. He passed on and I still miss him terribly. I just don't have that same bond with the two cats I have now.
Anyway, no way could I pick a "favorite." They were both precious to me.

The World Together charity, case: "Lugansk cats/dogs" doesn't accept donations. Each supply is bought, it's being sent now. If smb. sends belatedly donations to shared julia Paypal email, it'll be going towards different "severely ill pet, with multiple diagnoses" case to help to pay medical bills (which in Moscovite veterinarian establishments is, to put this mildly, expensive. It's generally very expensive city).
I speak to you, Nola, & each & everybody who is sending donations belatedly, in past few days. I.e. the money you send will be still useful. The Paypal address is single address used in World Together payments (esp. international, money given by the other countries' citizens, like U.S. People living in Russia pay thru SMS &  various charity bank accounts depending who moderates/ coordinates/ courier in each case).

Wish Everybody Jolly Christmas Eve (it ain't Christmas, 25th, yet in U.S. & elsewhere save here)! Enjoy The Day Before Christmas, eat turkey today, then next day at Christmas you will eat the remaining food in fridge. :3d
Get clad in Christmas colors!

The song is very familiar but don't know what it is. A friend of my sister used to sing it a lot -that was many years ago .
Another one of my sisters , a vegetarian, asked me to donate to a charity (United Poultry Concerns) that is against the way poultry, particularly turkeys, are treated at the places they have to live out their not so nice lives. So I couldn't get myself to eat any turkey today . I ate shrimp and eggplant (aubergine) casserole.
I decided to send donations in each family member's behalf instead of giving gifts. I asked to not receive any gifts but did get one -a CD of Dr John performing with a big band.

Hm. If you can't tell which song it's, nobody will.
It's been general information regarding World Together charity, i.e. dollars you give away towards julia Paypal address will be used to different pet-in-peril cases. It's reliable.
Recently read blog about interesting cat Josephine who is diagnosed with FHS. In it you can see which issues Josephine & human deal with. She's difficult cat, they visit behaviorist due to FHS/OCD & trim nails due to Josephine being polidactyl. Many advised the lady who adopted Josephine she should bring back her to euthanize but, she doesn't give up when there's times when Josephine behaves usual good-natured cat, even lets lady to pet her without biting. There's blog post "Week" in which lady states with glee there's been single whole week when Josephine didn't try attacks, didn't gaze crazily about to attack. It's rare when she's nice, yet she can be really nice thus human didn't get to the point to give the cat back. Really happy about it, each cat must get chance to live, esp. since Josephine technically healthy & young (zero issues with vitals, she can walk legs, neck flexible, good vision).
Check blog, read few back posts to get picture about Josephine's behaviors, it's educational & helpful blog: https://josephinethequirkycat.com
(NB: looking at main Josephine pic, you wouldn't tell she's difficult to deal with cat - beautiful sweet-looking, with unique green hue eyes (kiwi/lime))

^Dawn & Rocky recently flew to FL (they're NJ residents). Dawn posted many sweet pics & tik tok vids. They went there to Disney Springs. They stayed in hotel during FL tour. Then got back to NJ.

The other cat page, about guy feeding stray cats in supermarket, petrol station etc, recently shared his wife's pic prefacing he never shares fam pics but shared wife's to give idea what "perfect crazy cat lady" looks like - it's youthful looking girl with black hair half-covering face, standing with mobile doing selfie thru mirror in wear shop trying trousers. Everybody started praising her beauty, I's like "She's 34? She looks like kid" (seriously! holy moly) & "Btw, she looks like TV/well girl in Japanese horror "Ring" (she got pitch black hair & it, as I stated, covered her face in a way, & the way she stood/ serious non-smiley face). There's LOTSA easily offended people it ain't fun talking with them, like walking in eggshells. But, that guy not just laughed, he actually agreed with I saying "She's a bit like the Japanese actress in "The Ring", she's Indonesian Chinese". Asian face, yep, they kinda look similar, guy's right. Real nice to see normal people without extreme reactions. He took the replies as compliments to his wife, as I intended them to be duh. Nice chap.

Reply below is again such nice thing to re-read - people at FB get what precisely I say, without getting easily offended & see? They think I'm nice & polite - which I am, duh - they treat respectfully. I like FB. Many nice people, I get LIKES. Ain't it fantastic?
Few stupidities aside, FB is fun to chat thru.
Recently - & still going - been "dolly parton challenge" (what lame last name, ugly too, bleh). Lotsa cat pages posted 4-fers (like "2-fer" but it's 4 cat pics joined in single pic), captioned "Facebook", "Instagram", "Tinder", "Twitter". I didn't see original Dolly pics but who cares? It's about social media cats, their cute bragging. It's stupid challenge, let's face it, yet cats make it less stupid.

There are always "fads" on FB. I usually don't know how they start. Yes, the latest is the Dolly Parton challenge and I hadn't seen the original post, either.

There's a cute short video that just got posted a few days ago. Don't know if you saw it yet.

I think the day has arrived when we will finally have to say goodbye to our beloved Angel. She is 18 years old, my brother adopted her when she was 2; and I've been living with them for 5 years now. My life has been filled with cats, but that terrible day always comes when we have to say goodbye. It's gonna take a miracle to make her well now, so if you believe in prayer, please pray for Angel.

LS, I am so sorry to hear this. It is never easy to say goodbye, but take comfort knowing that you and your family made such a loving home for Angel for almost two decades. Two stories I want to share:

A family friend recently had to put down a dog. She was adamant that she didn't want to get another dog again (because the pain of loss was so great). She had this outlook until her mother told her, "We need to keep adopting them because these animals need loving homes." So the loss is our burden to bear, but the animals are gifted with such an amazing life (and in return they give us so much joy while they are alive - and our memories of them will make us smile forever).

Second story: A dog I had growing up one day died of a kidney disease (when I was about 20). My father (who is a down-to-earth, war vet, straight-shooter kinda guy - doesn't make anything up) had a dream the night the dog passed away: He dreamt that he was walking the dog on a leash toward a bridge. On the other side of the bridge was a whole green pasture full of dogs and animals running around and playing. He walked the dog to the middle of the bridge and stopped. He knelt down and unclasped the leash. He looked down at the dog and the dog looked up at him, they said their goodbyes and she hesitantly trotted across the bridge. She got toward the end of the bridge and looked back one last time at my father. She then stepped into the pasture and started playing with the other dogs.

Anyways, I wanted to share that because that story has helped me get through some animal losses recently. I'll be praying for you and Angel.

Thank you for the thoughtful words. Right now is hard, but we will adopt another someday.
