Post by: Joshilyn Hoisington on April 30, 2006, 03:10:19 PM
Does anybody know Mike's address or addresses from about the Today sessions through the late 60s?

Thanks.

Out of interest why on earth would you want to know - ah ha! As you are moving to LA soon you want to buy it?

Or are you just compiling a Beach Boys guide to LA?

Pretty much that.

Is that the same address Carl was living at, or were they neighbors?

My friend also came up with an address for 1963, via the Musicians' Directory from that year: Michael E. Love, 4218 11th Avenue.  Ph. # AX1-1771.

Melinda, izzat you???

Interesting! That is a valid address and phone number, but not for Mike in 1963. My mom's parents lived there for over 60 years. Dad lived there briefly in 1961 after being thrown out of his house by his (psycho) mother, who was enraged at learning of my impending existance. After I was born, they moved to a small apartment in Manhattan Beach, where I believe he stayed for a while after he and my mom split. (Shortly after my sister Teresa's arrival in Dec. '62)

Oops...correction: Mike and Frannie moved into an apartment on the corner of 54th St & 8th Ave together. In Nov. 1963 the next stop was 5642 1/2 Aldama St. where we lived for 11 years, but Dad couldn't behave, so in Feb of 1963 he moved to the apartment in Manhattan Beach.

That's all very interesting stuff.  I'm definitely putting all those addresses down on my Mike Love Tour itinerary.

Wow- Thanks, Melinda, and welcome to the board!  I hope you'll stick around and fill in some more blanks about your family.  I knew your basic story from the books, of course, but we'd all like to know as much more as you're willing to share.  Guess your mom is the "pretty cheerleader" from the song "Brian's Back"?

There's a good account of Mike's "eviction" in the Timothy White book.
Do you suppose that apartment you mentioned was the inspiration for the lyric in "Girl From NYC":  "small apartment down on the beach"...(just kidding...but you never know).
Good to see you on this board, Melinda.

Melinda -

I think it's great that people like you join the board every now and then.  I thought I knew quite a lot of BB history but turns out I was wrong!  There are some fantastic people here who really know their stuff.  I am humbled...
I don't know if you can answer this but I thought I'd ask:  do you know if Mike is ever going to release his own account of things?  I'm sure there are many who would be very interested to read it? :)

Thank you Joe  :)  I've a quick story about that. I was visiting my father when he was writing "Brian's Back". He wanted me to hear a song he was working on. He took out his guitar and started singing. He had to stop when he got to the part about a pretty cheerleader. He was too choked up because he was singing to me about my mom! It was a sweet and very poignant moment.

Craig

Hi Craig. I remember reading that book several years ago and was very impressed with the research that was done. I don't remember however, if he wrote about ALL of my dad's belongings being thrown out of his second story bedroom window out to the front lawn?

Thanks Lola. A few years ago, I used to read/post frequently. It's been a while. I know that I gather more info about BB history reading fan posts than I could ever hope to impart! Don't know of any plans that my dad has regarding the release of his story. At this point, he's really a busy guy.  Asside from his hectic touring/ travel schedule and his recordng projects, he's very much a hands-on dad to the latest brood. It may have taken him several tries, but he seems to have finally gotten the hang of it!

Now that's the kind of stuff we want to hear.  Very interested to learn that your dad plays guitar, and particularly that that song may have been written on guitar, which I wouldn't have guessed.

Did you know your grandmother on that side very well?
