Title: Rank the tracks #16: Sunflower
Post by: Letsgoawayforawhile on January 07, 2013, 08:23:54 AM
Can this record get any better?
It's insanely good.

12. Got to Know the Woman - The only song on here I don't really care for. Is that Bruce on the highs?
11. It's About Time - The music sounds like it should be on Bond. That percussion is insane.
10. Slip on Through
9. Tears in the Morning - A lot of people dislike this, I love it.
8. Deirdre - This is great, I only wish Bruce was a little less theatrical.
7. Cool, Cool Water - Great piece of music, I just feel it's a little out of place here.
6. Our Sweet Love
5. This Whole World - That chorus is so awesome!
4. Add Some Music to Your Day - Brilliant! The guys here on the board made me love this song even more when they covered it.
3. Forever - Gosh, Dennis was so sweet. This is beautiful.
2. All I Wanna Do - Probably Mike's finest lead ever. This blows me away.
1. At My Window - One of my favorite BB songs period. It's perfect to me. The vocals, instrumentation, everything. The outro when that bass comes in is my favorite.

The one two punch of the first two tracks ranks as one of the greatest rock and roll album openers of all time. "Slip on Through" is unquestionably Dennis' greatest. (otherwise, lots of ties here....) Overall - amazing album.

Another GREAT album!  If only it had sold well.  The Beach Boys' story would have gone VERY different from this point.  I would have had Dennis sing at least one line in ASMTYD and swapped out the three bottom songs on my list (or at the very least, the last one) with more Brian and Al but that's just me.  The album really is Great as it is.

It’s About Time - Distorted guitar alone doesn't automatically make something into a rock song.  BOTM is a COUNTRY song!  "All I Want To Do" is a FAILED rock song.  THIS (along with the early surf stuff, etc.) is what Beach Boys rock sounds like and it's fantastic.  Written by the band's genuine rock star and sung by its most versatile singer!
This Whole World - Primo Brian Wilson!  It's been said this song does more in its short length than most that are three times its size.  And it's true!
Add Some Music To Your Day - Perfect slice of life stuff that celebrates that most magical art.  EVERY casual fan I've played it for winds up loving it.
Forever - Holy cow, Dennis!  And yes, it's every bit as good as it's made out to be.  The acapella version was an absolute revelation!
Slip On Through - And BAM!  Another great one from Dennis.  Give me stuff like this over his "over produced unfinished feels" like "Cuddle Up" and "Make It Good" ANY day!
All I Wanna Do - Infinitely better than its earlier namesake.  Absolutely fantastic job from Mike.  This and the original version of "Big Sur" show that he could have been an on par with Carl in the 70's if he was used more for this type of stuff (and great bass parts in the vocal blend) and less for his increasing nostalgia.
Our Sweet Love - Great performance from Carl!
Tears In The Morning - I also prefer the alternate version might put that one a notch higher.  The lyrics are VERY hokey at times but Bruce manages to pull them off, as only Bruce could.
Got To Know The Woman - While I still like this, I put it low because the "funky chicken" part really brings it down for me.  Maybe it's JUST me but it is what it is.  It's a fun song and it totally works.  I just would have preferred it a little more "straight", without the "wink".
Deirdre - This and the following two are the only tracks I don't LOVE.  This one just falls over the line into TOO saccharine; a line Bruce straddled much more often than the rest of the band.
At My Window - OK but it just doesn't stack up to the others; I'm not a big fan of Brian's "simple" lyrics.  Absolutely STELLAR vocal from Bruce tho.
Cool, Cool Water - The only actual misstep on the album.  Like the lesser Dennis songs I mentioned, as well as stuff like "Give Peace A Chance", it's more an idea than a song.  To make it worse (for me) is it's as LONG as a regular song and I'm done with the it long before it's done with me.  For the record, I LOVE the snippet on the '93 box set!

Can this record get any better?
It's insanely good.

12. Our sweet love - Never one of my favorites....
11. At my window - nice but a littlw boring
10. Got to know the woman - I like this when I'm in the mood. But it would have fit better on 20/20
9. Tears in the morning - I don't hate this like a lot of people here but yes it's a little too dramatic

8. It's about time - Jesus I love this song. Great lyrics and it just drives along great - the percussion is great!
7.  Deirdre - Love it. The harmonies really make this for me. And my mom loves this song.
6.  Forever - A beautiful song. Dennis really coming into his own.
5. Slip on through - Great album opener. If you put this song under a different band name how could it have not been a hit??
4. Cool, Cool Water - Perfect uncommercial Brian music 9as has been stated). Give me more like this Brian... don't worry about the hits...
3. All I wanna do - Mike's best singing ever - hands down. Such a tender beautiful song.
2. Add some music to your day - A song made for background vocals. The boys tribute to music. Love it.
1. This Whole World - A Brian masterpiece....

My all-time favorite album. I love every song on this one!

1. This Whole World - One of Brian's very best compositions, the melodies and chord changes are incredible.
2. Forever - Brian had God Only Knows, but Dennis had Forever.
3. All I Wanna Do - Love the ghostly atmosphere and Mike's vocal.
4. Tears In The Morning - Sweet song, beautifully arranged.
5. Our Sweet Love - Might not really be going anywhere, but a sweet and wonderful trip nevertheless.
6. Slip On Through - Love the "dragging" rhythm.
7. It’s About Time - Great, funky song. Would've been perfect for Elvis in his Vegas years.
8. Deirdre - Very easy on the ears and again, nicely arranged.
9. At My Window - Friends-ish music meets Love You-ish lyrics. And it works.
10. Add Some Music To Your Day - Soothing and mellow, recaptures the mood of Friends.
11. Cool, Cool Water - Very atmospheric.
12. Got To Know The Woman - No great work of art, but it's horny, soulful and funny, so what's not to love?

Pfff were to begin?

1. Forever - Dennis at his best. Such a moving song with lovely lyrics.
2. At My Window - I just love this song. The 'He came to my window' line is one of my favourite harmonies ever by The Beach Boys. It's just...beautiful.
3. This Whole World - Thank you, Brian :)
4. Add Some Music To Your Day - Five lead singers. Too bad there was no room for Dennis. But one of their finest.
5. Slip On Through - A nice rockin' tune by Dennis. He sure was on fire in this period.
6. It's About Time - Same as above. Love the part with the bass.
7. Our Sweet Love - Carl, the voice of an angel. Wonderful.
8. All I Wanna Do - Mike's vocals are top-notch.
9. Deirdre - Nothing that special, but Bruce sure does sound great on this one.
10. Tears In The Morning - A hit in Holland, but it's not my favourite. Bruce does again a solid job.
11. Cool Cool Water - It's okay, I guess. The intro is nice to sing along to.
12. Got To Know The Woman - Again an okay song, but not really my cup of tea.

1) All I Wanna Do
2) Slip On Through (Probably another tie between 1 & 2 for me.)
3) This Whole World
4) Our Sweet Love
5) Forever
6) It's About Time
7) Add Some Music To Your Day
8) Cool, Cool Water
9) Got To Know The Woman
10) Deirdre
11) At My Window (Don't let the low ranking fool you. Speaks volumes for the entire album. A glorious tag.)

12) Tears In The Morning

As with 20/20 for me, this one's like trying to rank loved ones. Impossible. After all these years, "Tears" is still the only track that never really did it for me.

When I discovered the esoteric middle period of the Beach Boys catalogue, this emerged as a favourite.  It remains firmly in my top 5 Beach Boys albums, and boasts what continues to be an all-time favourite song in All I Wanna Do.  That's something special!

1. This Whole World - easily in my top 10 fave BW songs
2. Slip on Through - huge favorite ever since I "discovered" the group vocals underneath the chorus
3. Forever
4. Cool, Cool Water
5. Our Sweet Love - very underrated, always loved this one
6. At My Window - same here, incredible sound/production and oddly touching
7. All I Wanna Do
8. Add Some Music to Your Day - should've been a hit
9. Got to Know the Woman - not necessarily my type of music, fantastic lead vocal though!
10. It's About Time
11. Deirdre
12. Tears in the Morning - bit over the top... not that bad however...

1. Deirdre - The opening blows me away. So does the rest of the song. And to think of how it could be used to such creepy effect in Earthbound!
2. Our Sweet Love - One of the greatest love songs ever recorded, with production nearing that of Pet Sounds, and an amazing Carl vocal.
3. All I Wanna Do - Such a chill song, it's funny to think that this is considered the Ur-Chillwave.
4. It's About Time - The Beach Boys' best rocker. And shoot me, I like it better than Forever.
5. This Whole World - This board has made me realize how complex this song really is. Thanks, guys.
6. Forever - I'd say it's overrated... but damn, it's so good. He'd write better love songs, though.
7. Slip On Through - The sound of the band going through a creative rennaisance.
8. Add Some Music to Your Day - Starts out weak, but the "when day is over" part always gets me. It feels like this is Brian's attempt at a late-career "Good Vibrations" with all the key changes and transitions.
9. At My Window - This one just recently grew on me, though the accordion and french vocals are still silly. (Why didn't Al sing this though?)
10. Tears in the Morning - I love this song, putting it this low just shows how great the album is.
11. Cool, Cool Water - Chill.
12. Got to Know the Woman - Really the only big misstep on the album. If they wanted something this cheesy, why not finish "Loop de Loop"?

Wow, this was tough. I could pretty much keep swapping the order of the top 11 and never be completely satisfied with it. Each time I listen to it, the album, and another song keeps on growing on me. `

3. Forever
4. Slip On Through
5. Deirdre
6. All I Wanna Do
7. At My Window

1. Add Some Music (agree with Brian on the Roxy CD regarding the lyrics!)
2. All I Wanna Do
3. Forever
4. Cool Cool Water (for me, the song peaks when Brian sings "From the mountains...": the first minutes of the song then turns out to be a build-up just for this - so great!)
5. Our Sweet Love
6. This Whole World
7. Deirdre
8. It's About Time
9. At My Window
10. Slip On Through
11. Got To Know The Woman

Remembering....back in the day (early '77), working in two different LA record stores (Rhino and another one closer to the beach...this incident was at the other store, not Rhino, a place that at the time was not particularly BB-friendly)... anyway, playing Sunflower and a customer came up (remember, this is early '77) and asks if this is the new BB album. I said, "Wouldn't it be nice", got a bit of an arched eyebrow for that wisecrack (still do, actually...), and quickly said, "no, no, this is Sunflower from a few years back, if only they could make another one like it--and, hey, if you don't own it, you owe it to yourself." He wound up buying it and I remember thinking: "Yesss! One for the good guys!"

And I did NOT follow up Sunflower by playing 15BO. No, no, NO!

1. All I Wanna Do
2. This Whole World
3. Slip On Through
4. Cool Cool Water
5. It's About Time
6. Forever
7. Got to Know the Woman
8. Add Some Music
9. Our Sweet Love
10. At My Window

11. Dierdre
12. Tears in the Morning

Dennis' three up-tempo numbers give the record its oomph (have always loved GTKTW, with one of Mike's greatest bass lines...); Brian's songs find the sweet spot in that undefinable region between Wild Honey and Friends with the production sheen of Pet Sounds (largely due to Mr. Desper's groundbreaking work); and Bruce's songs are well-arranged, well-performed schmaltz.

I've always thought of SUNFLOWER as the anti-WHITE ALBUM. In other words, if THE BEATLES was "John with a backing band, Paul with a backing band," as Lennon once complained, SUNFLOWER creates the illusion---and I'm sure it's an illusion---of a mutually supportive collaborative group. No single song has the greatness of "Surf's Up" or "Til I Die" ("This Whole World" comes close) but somehow the humility of the individual selections only makes the overall album that more consistent. And I love that the back cover describes the record as "an album offering from The Beach Boys." PET SOUNDS is the Sistine Chapel, but SUNFLOWER is like my local sanctuary. I don't have to worship but, I can just feel at peace in it.

So here's my list, in descending order. This is not a list of what I think is the best, just what I find most enjoyable and what makes me smile the most.

12. Our Sweet Love---feels like a second cousin to God Only Knows. Great bass line, though. Just doesn't go anywhere.
11. Tears---if only bc it's so un-BB like. But I like the accordion and the coda. It just feels like a Bruce song that didn't quite become a group effort.
10. Cool, Cool Water---I hate to say it bc I love the demo, but this version is too long. Maybe if they put the water chant first like in the live versions.
9. At My Window---again, I don't dislike. Utterly charming, dorky, awesome coda, and the weird chord shift at the end injects a bit of ominousness into it. Coulda been better, though.
8. Forever---sacrilegious, I know, but there are so many great Dennis songs but Ive hit saturation level with this. Love it, can remember the shock of hearing Stamosized back in the day, but lately I've been wanting somebody to remake/redo another Dennis number only for variety's sake.
7. Deirdre---when Brian kicks in on the refrain or chorus or whatever I can't help but sing along to those harmonies. Love the stop time/bass solo bit, Mike's lines. I would probably hate this if it were on KTSA, but here it just feels right.
6. Add Some Music---again, only because it's not as obscure as it used to be. But I loved seeing Brian do this live in '11. Wish I'd seen one of the later BB concerts where they'd added this, but, alas, Atlanta was pitstop No. 3.
5. It's About Time---Remember when Mike said Santana rock wasn't really his thing? Well, you were wrong, man. This was a good direction to explore. I love playing the "import" I have with the drum/conga track only. Whew.
4. Slip on Through---I still enjoy playing SUNFLOWER for people who think they know the BBs and watching them lose their sh*t when they hear this. That insane high note Dennis hits! Haha. And the horns. White gospel soul? I wish they'd done more like this.
3. This Whole World---should be No. 1, I know, but I can't help myself. I actually think the a capella break here is more orgasmic than on "Good Vibrations."
2.  All I Wanna Do---OK, it's time for every soundtrack/TV show to stop using God Only Knows and introduce this to the general public. Pure spiritual love.
1. Got to Know the Woman---So I admit it: this song just makes me happy. I envision Jerry Lee Lewis hearing it and pulling out a pistol at Dennis saying, "Boy, you think I'm a joke, do you?" But it's such a wise parody. Love all the harmonies. I like to randomly walk up to my wife and say, "C'mon, c'mon, and do the chicken!" This is Dennis's "Ding Dang."

Well, they DID speed up the track somewhat when it was mixed (less uncommon then than now in the production world). But they knew what they were doing: it's just freakin' fantastic, right up there with all of the best up-tempo BB songs in the canon. Denny was at his vocal peak in this time frame, fo' sho'.  ;D

It's About Time
Got To Know The Woman (despite the chicken WTF moment)
Deidre

Decent:
Our Sweet Love (lyrics are too sweet and directionless)
Forever (fine, but as I've said in a previous thread this is no great Dennis Wilson moment for me)
Tears In The Morning (close to entering the NO category)

RE: Deirdre.

I've always found it hard to get into this song, purely because I can't get over any associations with the Coronation Street (Britsh soap) character of the same name.  The tune is pretty and has grown on me, but I'll never be able to fully enjoy the song for what it is  :(

Ok, I guess I should have a go at ranking the songs (haven't taken part in any yet)...

I guess,

Add Some Music
This Whole World = All I Wanna Do

Our Sweet Love = At My Window
Forever
Cool, Cool Water

Slip On Through
Tears In The Morning

Dierdre
It's About Time
Got To Know The Woman

Can't really say how accurate that really is, sometimes you just need a certain song.

9. Slip On Through
10. At My Window
11. Tears in the Morning
12. Got to Know the Woman

I've always found it hard to get into this song, purely because I can't get over any associations with the Coronation Street (Britsh soap) character of the same name.

I also can't help but picture Deirdre Barlow and her grotesque wrinkly neck when I hear this song.

1. Cool Cool Water: An absolute masterpiece of 20th century avant-pop. Manages to be quirky, creepy, gorgeous, dorky all in one fell swoop and neatly encapsulates who and what The Beach Boys are. Complete aural perfection.

2. All I Wanna Do: Painfully beautiful and haunting. I love how the melody/production sort of fights with itself as the song goes on, creating a sense of tension and unease that only makes the song's beauty and sentiment all the more genuine.

3. Forever: Dennis' God Only Knows, as someone pointed out earlier. Kudos to Stamos for singing this forgotten non-Beach Boys hit on national television on a top rated show. Seriously......

4. It's About Time: Carl killin' it. Nuff said. I love Mike in the breakdown.

5. Dierdre: I am completely in love with this song. It's what my 70's, AM radio, "Love American Style" childhood sounds like in my head.

6. Slip On Through: Shoulda been a hit. Dennis best vocal ever and the backing track kicks major ass.

7. This Whole World: All the proof needed that Brian rules the universe....

8. Add Some Music To Your Day: I adore this song. Everyone sounds great on vocals and the dorky lyrics hit all the right Beach Boys buttons.

9. Tears In The Morning: This isn't my favorite song but I think this might be Bruce's best lead vocal ever. There is an awful lot of emotion in his voice for a guy who's usually written off as too smooth and saccharine and tiny shorts wearing.

10. Our Sweet Love: Gorgeous Carl vocal and lovely tune, but it just seems a bit inconsequential compared to the rest of the album. But this is a bit like complaining about one too many diamonds in the mine.

11. At My Window. I love this song and it sets up Cool Cool Water perfectly for some reason....

12. Got To Know The Woman: I dig this a lot and it helps vary the album, but I'm not exactly in love with it. Dennis just being Dennis is awesome though, no matter what.

I wish they had recorded more songs like "All I Wanna Do", it blows my mind every time I listen to it. It sounds so contemporary yet it was recorded almost 50 years ago!

1 "This Whole World": one of Brian's masterpieces. Both Brian and Carl sound great. Amazing chord changes.
2 "Cool, Cool Water": another one of Brian's masterpieces. Mike's lyrics are pretty sweet too. Great vocals from all. So mellow and so great.
3 "Add Some Music To Your Day":: a lovely sentiment. Could be looked at as lightweight, but its just such a great little song with great vocals.
4 "All I Wanna Do": great vibe. Would've ranked it higher, but I'm kinda burned out on it. Great vocals from Mike though.
5 "At My Window": probably Bruce's best lead vocal. The tag is stellar. Great vibe.
6 "Slip On Through": mellow soulful rocker from Dennis. He sounds great. The group sounds energized.
7 "Forever": I like this, but it's just kinda sappy. The vocals are great, but the lyrics are lame. I love Dennis but I feel this was a step on the way to POB, but not a high point. Sorry.
8 "Deirdre": probably Bruce's best Beach Boys contribution. Brian sounds nice vocally. But overall, kinda lightweight.
9 "Our Sweet Love": seems like a crappy rewrite of "God Only Knows". However, the backing track with just Brian's background vocals is great. I wouldn't mind hearing this in pristine quality on Made In California.
10 "It's About Time": it rocks along nicely, but it's not really something I would ever listen to.
11 "Tears In The Morning": overly sappy Bruce. Can't make it through it.
12 "Go To Know The Woman": Dennis being goofy. I don't care for it.

1. This Whole World - Wonderful...my #1 favorite 1970s BBs song. Just perfect.
2. Forever - My 2nd favorite Dennis tune, and man it's soo lovely. Really amazing vocals all around.
3. Our Sweet Love - Sweetness, thy name is Carl Wilson. I adore this one.
4. Slip On Through - Just a tremendous opener, really kick ass and fantastic.
5. Add Some Music To Your Day - Delightful, real musical warmth. Love it.
6. Cool, Cool Water - Wow factor up to 11. Simply grand.
7. All I Wanna Do - Really beautiful. Nice, Mike, nice.
8. Deirdre - My favorite Bruce BBs song. Lovely and bright.
9. It's About Time - Rockin'. Dig it...a lot. Like I always say (and I'm always right), Carl rules!
10. Got To Know The Woman - Ah, damn great, very funny, brings a dumb grin to your face. Gotta love Denny.
11. At My Window - Really been growing on me lately. Now I think it's quite good. NICE ending bit with Brian soaring above all.
12. Tears In The Morning - Something has to be last, but I still really like this song, still very good.

Wow. The single greatest album the Beach Boys ever made as a band, together, singin' and writin' and producin' on a more equal basis. Pet Sounds is by many miles greater, of course, but that's Brian's baby. This is the band's and they should be proud.

1. All I Wanna Do (one of my favorite BB tunes... haunting, gorgeous, hypnotic, incredible...)
2. This Whole World
3. Slip On Through (just a happenin' track... love Brian's falsetto yeeeeeeahs)
4. Deirdre
5. Add Some Music To Your Day
6. Cool Cool Water
7. Forever
8. At My Window (pretty cute, like this little ditty)
9. Our Sweet Love (boring rewrite of God Only Knows... idk, just boring)
10. It's About Time (bland 70s music... not a fan of this)
11. Got To Know The Woman (dated 70s crap... nothing of interest here)
12. Tears In the Morning (some of the worst lyrics ever, and a very repetitive melody, just plain awful)

From Worst to Best:
12: At My Window. Total crap. The only truly horrible song from this great album. Avoid if you can!
11: Cool, Cool Water. Totally out of place from this album. If history went the right way, this would have been on Smile instead.
10: Our Sweet Love. Talk about sappy. I actually think this is worse than the Bruce tracks in the sappiness.
9: Tears In The Morning. Not half as bad as most people say. That being said it's not that good.
8: This Whole World. A bit overrated, don't care for it too much. Really don't care for the backing vocals.
7: Got To Know The Woman. The weakest Dennis track here, but still a nice rockin' track. Doesn't deserve a lot of criticism, except for the female "Got To Know The Womannnnnn" parts in between verses. It's virtually unlistenable and cringe-worthy, and it really brings this song down for me. But I liked the Chicken part, and overall, this song is great proof that Dennis was easily the coolest Beach Boy of all-time!
6: Deirdre. The better of the two Bruce songs. Enjoyable, but people really have to stop hating on Bruce.
5: All I Wanna Do. Not as good as the similarity titled All I Want To Do. It's a bit out there for me, but still great.
4: Add Some Music To Your Day. This song has quite grown on me, although it's not a favourite.
3: Forever. What can I say about this that hasn't already been said? Yet another all-time classic. Dennis's God Only Knows!
2: Slip On Through. Underrated single that should have been a much bigger single. Absolutely love it!
1: It's About Time. Seriously, you can't not like this song! This should appear on more compilations.

1. This Whole World - 494.5 (19)
2. All I Wanna Do - 424 (8)
3. Forever - 399 (4)
4. Add Some Music to Your Day - 374 (3)
5. Slip On Through - 364 (1)
6. Cool, Cool Water - 345 (3)
7. Our Sweet Love - 306
8. It's About Time - 269.5 (5)
9. Deirdre - 257.5 (2)
10. At My Window - 241 (2)
11. Got to Know the Woman - 138.5 (1)
12. Tears in the Morning - 129

My thoughts?  Very happy to see the underacknowledged All I Wanna Do place second.  I think both Add Some Music and Our Sweet Love are a little high, with the songs surrounding them deserving a bump up.

Might as well rank the tracks of my favorite BB album

12. Got to Know the Woman - Not a bad song.  Actually a fun song.  But on this album...

11.  Deidre - Again, not a bad song, but just too much competition

10.  At My Window - A companion piece to Little Bird.  Nice little number

9.   Tears in the Morning - It might seem like I'm picking on Bruce a little here, but I do like this song.  My one criticism of Sunflower is that there are too many Bruce leads, not enough Brian or Al.

8.  Slip On Through - Dennis opens up the album in decent form.  Although I think Think Whole World would've been a better opener.

7.  Cool Cool Water - Neat vocals.  This is another one of those Beach Boys songs it took me a few year to 'get'

6.  Our Sweet Love - Beautifully sung by Carl.  GOK for the 1970s

5.  It's About Time - Proves The Beach Boys could still rock when they wanted to .

4.  Forever - One of many great Dennis ballads, and Dennis's best contribution to Sunflower

3.  Add Some Music - Love the group trading off vocals.

2.  This Whole World - Classic Beach Boys.  Great vocal from Carl and great harmonies.

1.  All I Wanna Do - Maybe the last great Love / Wilson composition.  A beautiful ballad, and IMO Mike Love's greatest lead vocal.

1. All I Wanna Do--- My all time favorite BBs song. So beautiful, psychedelic, and intimate.
2. Deirdre--- Many people disagree, but I think this song is a masterpiece.
3. Forever--- What a haunting song. So beautiful.
4. This Whole World--- Great chord progression and harmonies. I also love the guitars. I just wish it was a bit longer.
5. It's About Time--- Denny and Al really wrote a rocking song! This might be the best BBs rock song.
6. Our Sweet Love--- Great vocals by Carl. If it weren't for the vocals, I wouldn't be crazy about the song, but Carl's vocals are sooooooo good.
7 Slip On Through--- Another great rock number, with a great arrangement.
8. Tears In The Morning--- A lot of people don't like this song, but I love it.
9. Cool, Cool Water--- Very psychedelic and great harmonies.
10. Add Some Music--- Fun song, good vocals, but overall- just ok.
11. At My Window--- A lot of people LOVE this song, but I think it's just okay. Bruce's vocals were awesome though.
12. Got To Know The Woman--- I like this song, it just isn't as good as the others.

EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM IS BRILLIANT. IT'S MY PERSONAL FAVORITE BEACH BOYS RECORD.

1. This Whole World - A beautiful, perfect song. I told Brian in person I love this song.
2. Deirdre - A wonderful Bruce composition, definitely a favorite. I wish Bruce wrote more.
3. Tears In The Morning - Such a beautiful, emotional song. The piano at the end gives me chills every time and the strings are brilliant.
4. Forever - My favorite Dennis song, an amazing masterpiece.
5. All I Wanna Do - One of my most favorite Mike leads, so soft and tender to carry the calming song.
6. Slip On Through - Fun song to listen to, definitely getting experimental with this compared to their old stuff.
7. Add Some Music To Your Day - Beautiful Carl vocals for the chorus.
8. Our Sweet Love - Another beautiful song with Carl on lead.
9. It's About Time - Really nice drums, interesting song.
10. Got To Know The Woman - Nice 50's vibe, but just drags on.
11. Cool, Cool Water - Goes nowhere, but nice to listen to occasionally.
12. At My Window - Repetitive, never one I came back to listen to purposefully.

1. This Whole World- Love at first sight.  If it's not the perfect pop song, it will do until the perfect song arrives.
2. All I Wanna Do- So good it created a new genre.  Amazing that more people don't know it.
3. Forever- so pretty. Soulful and sweet.
4. Slip On Through- Dennis shows off his vocal chops in one of the best lead vocals of the year.
5. Cool, Cool Water- quite lovely.  Yes, better suited to Smile, but music this great shouldn't feel out of place anywhere
6. Deidre- some of Bruce's compositions tend to be a bit, ummm, flaccid.  This one, like Disney Girls, finds him at his best.  Beautiful melody, lovely orchestration.  The "Baby, one, two, three" sequence is, like the "Deep and wide" on Time To Get Alone" one of the most memorable 5 seconds of vocals ever recorded.
7. It's About Time- Really catchy song burdened by silly lyrics.
8. Got To Know The Woman- a rousing, ribald throwback based on a boogie piano riff.  Good song, hamstrung by the heavy-handed production.
9. Add Some Music To Your Day- a pleasant song with The Boys trading lead vocals.  I tend to skip this one after 50 years.
10. Our Sweet Love- A sweet, forgettable little love song.  Great Carl vocal, insipid lead guitar
11. Tears In The Morning- day-old coffee. Out of place on this album imo
12. At My Window- another throwaway.  A cute chorus but overall a track to skip.
