The order they are on the album, the songs keep getting worse as the album progresses. Blue Christmas and Auld Lang Syne are only exceptions, I'd place them somewhere nearer the top.

Yeah, side two is way worse than side one to me.

You are all tripping. The side one cuts are underwritten, underperformed garbage, with the exception of Little Saint Nick (which Brian had the good sense to overdub things like the celeste and sleighbells on for the single). The second side has some stupid arrangements (anything that isn't a ballad really) but We Three Kings, Auld Lang Syne (sans Dennis), Blue Christmas, White Christmas, I'll Be Home.... fantastic singing (especially BW's leads) and pretty, maudlin arrangements.

1. I'll Be Home For Christmas
2. We Three Kings Of Orient Are
3. Auld Lang Syne
4. White Christmas
5. Blue Christmas (sure, it ain't Elvis, but Brian sings it nice & sweet anyway)
6. Little Saint Nick (Single Version, natch)
7 to 12 - get off my stereo.

Thanks to half being cover songs this is the first album where I really know every single song. The arrangments on the standards are perfect for their voices, perhaps the best arrangements I've ever heard on these songs! Imo the originals are of the highest class when it comes to a band making orignal christmas music. LSN is even a standard per today which speaks volumes of Brian's ability to write enduring music. (also kudos for the album having one of the worst covers ever ^^)

Blue Christmas
Little Saint Nick
We Three Kings Of Orient Are
I'll Be Home For Christmas
White Christmas
Christmas Day
Frosty the Snowman (never has this song been more alive!)

The Man With All The Toys (Santa is less of a turn on than other Christmas themes)
Merry Christmas, Baby
Auld Lang Syne (a classic of course, but all the other ones are just so good! also it's a bit boring and Dennis talking is nothing to me...)
Santa's Beard
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Like to add I was impressed with All Summer Long listening to it fully a few days ago due to the last thread but some of the songs are simply to dated in my ears.

I haven't listened to this album enough to rank every song on it, but am I the only one who loves their version of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town?

Not a album I spent much time with, but here we go:

1.  Blue Chrustmas
2.  Auld Lang Syne (saw Brian and band perform this on Burns Night in Glasgow a few years back...)
3.  Little Saint Nick
4.  We Three Kings...
5.  I'll Be Home for Christmas
6.  Frosty the Snowman
7.  Christmas Day
8.  Merry Christmas Baby
9.  White Christmas
10.  Santa Claus is Comin' To Town
11.  The Man With All The Toys
12.  Santa's Beard

....am I the only one who loves their version of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town?

I ranked it in the lower half, but I don't think it's as horrid as some do. The vocal intro by Brian is fine, and the ending really gets going and finishes strong. I guess it's the middle of the song that disappoints. I think Mike was trying to be intentionally cute and nasal but he misses the mark. Dick Reynold's arrangement (Pop Goes The Weasel?) is questionable.  Actually, I'm not fond of Reynold's work on the Christmas album overall (or on Adult Child for that matter). The Beach Boys' blend on SCICTT is really good and keeps the song listenable for me. At least it provided some LIFE which was lacking on that album!

I like the originals more than the standards in general, my favourites being "Santa's Beard" (simply because it's a rather unusual subject for a Christmas song and goofy in the best possible sense), "Merry Christmas, Baby" (relative to everything else this one cooks!), "Christmas Day" (I like the sentiment and it's delivered in a suitably calm but not dull way), and the single version of "Little Saint Nick" (obviously). The only standards I find that match or, in some cases surpass the originals, are "We Three Kings of Orient Are" (dat vocal blend) and "Blue Christmas" (the purity in Brian's vocal is immense). I also like the vocals, especially Brian's lead, on "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "White Christmas". The rest -- yes, even "Auld Lang Syne" -- range from forgettable to good.

The Man With All the Toys
Little Saint Nick (Would be #1 but it lacks the awesome overdubs the single version has)
Santa's Beard
Merry Christmas Baby
We Three Kings of Orient Are
Auld Lang Syne
Frosty the Snowman
White Christmas
I'll Be Home for Christmas
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Blue Christmas
Christmas Day

I love every year when Thanksgiving ends, it's my cue to to obsess over "Little Saint Nick" and listen to it and play it on the piano a million times a day.

1. Little Saint Nick - I want to punch people in the throat when they say " 'Christmas comes this time each year,' what a terrible lyric!" I love my dad, but he says this every time I play the song and it makes me wish I was adopted.
2. Christmas Day - Surprised so many people dislike this. Al's voice is the perfect innocent delivery. He really sounds like he cherishes Christmas and wants everybody to have a nice day. Spirituality: successful!
3. The Man With All the Toys - Great melody.
4. We Three Kings of Orient Are
5. Santa's Beard - Dorky. Cool melody, cool hook.
6. Blue Christmas - Nicely sung, BW.
7. Merry Christmas Baby - Weak concept but has some cool moments.
8. Auld Lang Syne
9. I'll Be Home for Christmas - This and "White Christmas" are both great songs that just aren't interesting enough in their arrangements for me to get that worked up over them. But they're well done and "I'll Be Home..." especially has a nice sentiment.
10. White Christmas
11. Frosty the Snowman
12. Santa Claus is Coming to Town - Plain dumb song.

12.  Auld Lang Syne

I'm not really sure whether I put it as a canonical studio album, much like I'm not sure with Party.  I find it tough to rate this one because most of the standards are good songs and well-sung and the originals all have their charms as well.  It's kind of lacking the standout tracks that populated their other albums around the time, so I guess that's where it falls short in some respects.  It's a fairly enjoyable holiday-theme album.

This album would be better if it had more secular songs on the "traditional" side, -- consider Spector's Christmas album for how to do that very right -- and if that side were arranged by someone else... maybe Brian?!

Because I don't care for most of the songs on this album, I'll stick to just a top 3:

1. We Three Kings Of Orient Are
2. Little Saint Nick
3. The Man With All The Toys (I think Brian's version from WIRWFC is superior, though)

1. Blue Christmas - Wonderful Brian vocal. A hidden gem.
2. Little Saint Nick - If this was the WAY superior single version, it would be #1 on the album. Still great though.
3. Merry Christmas Baby - NICE.
4. Auld Lang Syne - I might like the bonus track without Denny's talking over it, just the harmonies more, but I still do love his part.
5. I'll Be Home For Christmas - More wondrous harmonies. The harmonies are the star on top of the tree of this album. Or something.
6. White Christmas - Not as good as Darlene Love's but hey still awesome.
7. The Man With All The Toys - Interesting. Like it.
8. We Three Kings - Pretty stuff.
9. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Fun tune all around.
10. Santa's Beard - Cool original.
11. Frosty The Snowman - An obvious choice. Dick Reynolds schmaltz + Four Freshmen-inspired honey = holiday fruitcake. But nice.
12. Christmas Day - It's okay. A little dull. Nice Al.

I don't listen to this album as much as I should. A shame; it's pretty good. Some of the group's best harmonies.

1. Little Saint Nick - 200 (10)
2. We Three Kings of Orient Are - 155 (2)
3. The Man with All the Toys - 142.5 (2)
4. Blue Christmas - 132 (3)
5. Merry Christmas, Baby - 126.5
6. I'll Be Home for Christmas - 115 (1)
7. Santa's Beard - 111.5
8. Christmas Day - 102.5
9. Frosty the Snowman - 92.5
10. White Christmas - 86
11. Auld Lang Syne - 79
12. Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town - 61.5

My thoughts?  The lists seemed to have a lot of disagreement between whether the originals or the traditional covers were stronger.  In the end it kind of worked itself out with a balance.  No big objections with this one.

This album, along with Party, are the two 60s era BB albums I don't pay much attention to. However I enjoy some of it, even if I haven't like Christmas since I was 9 years old, lol.

Since it's now December, I'll rank the tracks on the Christmas album.

12. Auld Lang Syne - Nice harmonies before Denny's spoken word part.  But, essentially a throwaway track.
11. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - A nice Christmas standard, somewhat marred by a bad Mike lead.
10. Frosty The Snowman - Nice harmonies, but I prefer Jimmy Durante on this one.
9. White Christmas - A good version of a great song.
8. I'll Be Home For Christmas - Great BB harmonies on this track.
7. Merry Christmas Baby - Nice upbeat song with sad lyrics.  Not the last time Brian would do that.
6. Blue Christmas - Sorry Elvis, but this is my favorite version of this classic.
5. Santa's Beard - Another nice upbeat original, and a pretty funny story song.
4. We Three Kings - The Beach Boys take this track and make it their own.
3. The Man With All The Toys - A little short, but still a great song.
2. Christmas Day - I know a lot of people don't like this one, but I've always found it to be a most enjoyable track.
1. Little Saint Nick - Enduring Christmas classic.

Why sorry? He doesn't hear you anyway. Many people don't like Elvis, he's not above it. Nobody will say you have bad taste only bcuz you don't like Elvis' version. Big deal!

It's no big deal.  I was just emphasizing how much I like The Beach Boys version.

I'm really not a fan of Elvis Presley, but I really like his version of Blue Christmas.  Perhaps, I should've made it clear that I think Elvis's version of Blue Christmas is a holiday standard.

I'm really not a fan of Elvis Presley
Me too! tho make it "not a fan at all". Gimme high-5! :3d

& yeah, you should've made it clear, from your "Sorry Elvis" I took it you *don't* like his version.

I've always felt that Elvis gets too much credit for the birth of rock and roll.  Guys like Bill Haley, Little Richard, Jerry Lewis, or Chuck Berry, among others, are more worthy of the title "King of Rock and Roll" IMO.

It's funny, with Christmas music, my tastes tend to bend a little further.  I wouldn't normally listen to Elvis Presley, The Waitresses, Wham, etc etc, but that changes right after Thanksgiving.  I used to put The Beach Boys in that list.  As I was a big fan of The Beach Boys Xmas Christmas album long before I became a fan of The Beach Boys.

I agree with you regarding the King of R&R title. Elvis is not THE king. He left his mark in music history but so did others you mention. I don't know why people have to create these stupid titles - King, Queen, Diva, "pop princess". It is matter of individual taste. F.ex., I think the best rock'n'roller is Little Richard.

BBs Christmas album is one of my favorites to listen to even in the summer.

I can't remember who christened Elvis "The King" but it was a long time ago.  I'll give him a little credit in that, if not for Elvis, there might not have been The Beatles.

But they didn't listen exclusively to Elvis.

No, not exclusively.  But, from reading in interviews, Elvis (along with Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, etc) was very influential to The Fab Four.

Speaking of The Beatles, I always wonder what their attempt at a Christmas album would've been like.

"Very influential" is Buddy Holly. John even wore similar glasses & they covered "That'll Be the Day" & "Mailman" before the fame. They took after the Crickets' singer, rhythm guitar, bass & drum line-up.

I don't think they liked doing Christmas songs. Or they could of done the album. If you ask me, "Christmas Time Is Here Again" is dull.

Yeah, pretty obvious they threw that one together pretty quickly.

They would up doing better Christmas songs as solo artists.  Especially John.

I like Ringo's the best but Paul's is very catchy. John's sounds like traditional rather than original Christmas song.

Ringo's album is pretty fun.  Paul's song has suffered a bit from being overplayed every December.

John's is my favorite Xmas song of all time.  I like the choir and Phil Spector's arrangement.

I have nothing against the song.  And I do listen to do at least a couple times each Christmas season.

But, it recent years, I've just heard it too many times.

This year, I decided to not listen to the local FM Christmas station that plays the song at least 75 times a day during the Christmas season.  That's really helping me like the song again.
