Title: LPs Where Side 2 is Mediocre/Awful Compared to Side 1
Post by: Al Jardine: Pick Up Artist on June 05, 2012, 07:32:57 PM
I was listening to Band on the Run and I realized I kinda hate Side 2

The whole second disc of the White Album kinda blows too

David Bowie's Scary Monsters. So many dull songs and such weird singing. The album is still, overall, very good though.

Birthday
Yer Blues
Sexy Sadie
Helter Skelter
Long, Long, Long
Revolution 1
Cry Baby Cry

No disc of any album that has those tracks on it, blows.

I even quite like Revolution 9  :)

Yellow Submarine because I don't care about George Martin's music. Live Peace In Torronto is all Yoko on side two. Beach Boys Christmas Album is one though not all of side two is bad. ABC by The Jackson 5 is all around good but side one is much better, ditto Love Lifted Me by Kenny Rogers and Loving You by Elvis Presley. Silver Fox by Charlie Rich is really interesting on side one but side two is pretty banal. That's all I can think of off the top of my head but I know there is more.

blur's "Modern Life is Rubbish" doesn't have a bad song on it. But when you listen to it all the way through, once you get about half way through it seems to slow down considerably. The songs individually are great don't get me wrong. It just gets very experimental and when you're thinking "I could be listening to something else right now" it makes it hard to continue listening.

Love's 'Da Capo' usually loses points for having the whole 2nd side dedicated to 'Revelation'.

Apart from the terrific "Baby Blue", side two of "LA Album" is pretty awful!

that's funny when the B-sides of Today and Summer days are so much better than their respective A-sidesb  :P

Funnily enough, for an album that is so reviled, Summer In Paradise has the "good songs" on the second side.

imo White album has an even distribution of bad songs on each side. There are many great cuts scattered around, but so much trash as well. not a great album overall because there is so much painful filler to endure.

I don't mind "Shortenin' Bread" actually, but it's a terrible album closer (I'd appreciate it more as a b-side, bonus cut or box set rarity).

Listen before it gets removed. A couple of other videos this guy was nice enough to upload have been taken down. Still, he has almost every song from  "Adult Child."

I could not hear 4, maybe 5, of those songs ever again in my life and die happy. "Cry Baby Cry" not included in that number.

For me, Kraftwerk Autobahn. Side 2 can't quite live up to that track!

White Album is funny because it has some of my favorite Beatles songs and some of their worst. Needed an edit and Not Guilty really should have been on there. Still it is a pretty unique record. The last two cuts on side 4.......................

The White Album SHOULD NOT be without "Revolution 9."  It just shouldn't.  That is part of what makes that album unique, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I wouldn't even trade it for the combination "Revolution 1/Revolution 9" that John initially mixed.  (This version's been bootlegged, if you haven't heard it by now.)  Splitting the two unrelated chunks into two was a good idea.

Todd Rundgren- Initiation. Side 1 is  six great songs and side 2 is a 38-minute instrumental prog freak-out. I like the first 15- 20 minute, but then it's finally like, dude!

Side 1 of Chuck Berry's ST. LOUIS TO LIVERPOOL is way better than side 2. We go from all-timers like "Promised Land", "You Never Can Tell" and "No Particular Place to Go" to instrumental filler ("Night Beat") and even a Christmas song. Everything on side 2 is decent but definitely a letdown after side 1.

maybe its just my avant garde side, but i absolutely never skip Revolution 9. I don't listen to the White Album that often cuz its too long to listen to very frequently, but songs like Sexy Sadie, Cry Baby Cry, and Good Night are way worse

"Sexy Sadie" is a Beatles classic.  Great songwriting and I love John's vocal on it.  "Cry Baby Cry", I enjoy the version on A3 more than the version on The White Album which for a song on an album which generally highlighted sparse arrangements, is actually overproduced.  I need to be in the right mood for "Good Night".  I do agree with Richie Unterberger's assessment in his book "The Unreleased Beatles", that if a John Lennon demo of the song ever surfaced it probably would be heads and tails above the CV with Ringo.
