Woohoo!  Good for you guys!  Hopefully you get more but still great that you're getting a show.

Just met a guy from the UK who flew in just for tonight's show because he was tired of waiting for the UK dates.. :lol

This is awesome-the first time I saw them was at Wembley Arena in 1989, aged 11. Since then, I've been to numerous BW shows and the odd Mike and Bruce show so this is like coming full circle.

I wonder if there'll be any VIP packages available.

Congrats UK!

'It is part of a full European tour.'

So continental Europe, Asia mid August, Australia (TBA)  done by end of August.

Further to The Don's post. Seems odd to reform and travel for just one show? More could be added at Wembley (or elsewhere) if there is a demand.

Tickets are priced at £65.00 / £55.00

No.....the tour will have made enough money by then that they won't be required!

Seriously. They would be nuts not to.

Are there any other presale codes etc to use?

I am so happy and so glad I am in the country at this time, this year is very busy for me and this is perfect. I am so happy!!!!!!

Wembley sometimes takes out the seating but it depends who is playing. I'd be shocked if there was standing, to be honest, although I'm liking the image of Mike Love crowd surfing during one of David's solos!!

Bit of a gamble, I agree. Common sense tells me, however, that a standalone show at Wembley, a full month after the Hong Kong one, as the only one for Europe is very unlikely, from a logistical viewpoint. There was some speculation about them not visiting the UK at all because of prohibitive cost factors. My guess is that a number of good venues in the UK and mainland Europe will be selected still - I bet the Boys could easily sell out the Heineken Hall in Amsterdam for two nights.

I have a feeling they'll add a second date on the Saturday-Wembley holds around 12000 so if there's just under 9000 likes already, I think a second show at the O2 could be on the cards

Great news, it was always going to happen!

Annoyed about the O2 priority tickets, though...

I remember last year when Weezer played Brixton, anybody who had a contract with O2 could just go ahead and skip the queue. (Which bugged me far too much that it should have)

Hope there's good seats left!

So I'm guessing the statement about having to be wrapped up by August is... no longer operable.

If everyones mental and physical health holds up and there is a demand for more shows I can almost guarantee that the current tour will continue through the year and possibly into the next. If the tour remains successful and there is good money to be made they will continue. And there's nothing wrong with making good money. I know I spent my share on a fantastic evening that I won't soon forget. No regrets. I wish the BB's and the band all the best and I'm thankful that they were able to make a stop in my town.

Once the new album is released I wouldn't be surprised to see autographed copies of it for sale at the shows. We saw them early in the tour but by the time they get to the U.K. they'll only be that much better...or that more tired!!! :o :lol  ;) You'll probably hear a few surprises, too.

I can even see them taking a break over the winter holidays and starting up again next year.

After this current tour I'd be happy if Brian at least stays involved with a new album project and Mike, Al, Bruce, and David continue on the road. We will see.....

It's curious ... and somewhat dismaying. I had expected the tour to wrap in August and then reconvene in the winter for some British dates.

Instead, they seem to be taking a week or two off and then doing some more dates in Europe (my guess, at least). While nice for those who want to see them sooner, this strongly suggests against the notion that the reunited band will be a going concern -- at least for touring. My bet is that Brian and Melinda are eager to wrap up the touring this summer/early fall, period.

This doesn't preclude studio work, of course, but I would have loved to have seen the reunited band keep going with mini tours a time or two every couple of years. This booking move suggests they're trying to burn through all the engagements at once.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!  ;D

Now just have to sweat bullets tomorrow when the lines open for tickets...

I hope they add UK dates elsewhere (shame Wembley doesn't have the Saturday and Sunday free) but very glad we'll get at least one gig :)

Title: Re: UK !!!
Post by: Justin on May 29, 2012, 10:23:25 AM
I see your point, Wirestone.  Although it does seem that they are urgently trying to wrap everything up within this year, it still is a big deal, I think, that they were able to add the UK date(s) at all.  With the tour officially wrapping in August, it was a wonder at all just if/when they were going to do the UK.  I see them adding the September date as a way to still feed off the momentum they've built.  I'm sure even they know the uncertaintity what the future will hold and they figured it'd be smart to tag on the UK dates while coming off a successful first leg of the tour.  Waiting any longer, say the winter or next spring or whatever, would be risky considering things might change for any number of reasons (one being Brian simply just doesn't want to do it again).  Perhaps Brian/Melinda are better inclined to do these dates while the engines are still warm.  I think they're going about this better than the short-lived reunited Buffalo Springfield last year.  They did a short run of West Coast shows and promised to tour the rest of the world later in the year but Neil predictably postponed and eventually cancelled any future outings with the band.   I'm not saying this is exactly the same situation but I'm glad Brian and team are at least still in the game.

Title: Re: UK !!!
Post by: drbeachboy on May 29, 2012, 10:25:07 AM
Why dismaying? Knowing Brian's touring history did you really expect that he'd keep on going? Even his solo tours took long times off in between. I do think Brian will tour with the Beach Boys again, but not until next Spring/Summer at the earliest.

My understanding was that the August date was because various people in the band had professional commitments they had to meet (Darian's Disney work, some Mike & Bruce dates or things of that nature). Possibly some of those dates have been rescheduled, freeing up September, but others are firmer dates?

I guessing someone has not seen the Knebworth DVD?  :lol

I'm very happy for our friends in the UK. You all are in for a great time!

As for the possibility of other dates, I think that's likely, given the costs of hauling a band, stage, and equipment around the world. It makes more sense to book other venues in the neighborhood, while you've got everything there already. With the Olympics over, it will be much easier to book venues, hotels, and transportation for people and equipment.

My line of reasoning. Of course I hope to have them here in Holland, but basically I agree: Olympics done and over with, and opportunities to cover the costs and make some money, which is no shame at all. And perhaps the first bookings outside the US were a bit on the tentative side, not knowing how the whole enterprise would turn out. And it did turn out very well, so far.

For the U.S.: Kokomo, Here Comes The Night (1978), Smart Girls, all of SIP, Looking Back With Love, and, for some intelleckshul psychodrama: I'm Bugged At My Old Man.

For the U.K.: Surf's Up, Cabinessence, Wind Chimes, Wonderful, In Blue Hawaii, Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again, Diamond Head, Passing By, Airplane Song, Steamboat, All I Wanna Do, Cool Cool Water, This Whole World, Let Him Run Wild, and more.

I'm looking forward to meeting you guys, I need to brush up on my German before I go as it's been awhile since I did German at school, all I remember are things like 'meine hund ist gross'!
:lol  ;D

Die Pet Sounds und Smile Alben sind absolut geil! Aber Summer In Paradise ist Scheiße, was haben die Strandjungs sich dabei gedacht?

N5, row L, seat 52, so pretty close to you Mr Hickey!

So excited about this!!

Had to get 5 tickets so I think I limited my chances of a good seat. We've got S12 which I am disappointed with but at least we have tickets and that's the main thing. I could have got closer tickets but higher up but I made the mistake of trying to get better ones. Why do I never learn. I hope the view from there is ok, I'll have to take some binoculars! To me you have to be close to the stage to really experience a gig.

So in summary, I wish I had better tickets but I am so glad I have tickets to their only gig here.

So how are you buying these?   With that O2 pre-sale thing?
Are the A blocks available at all?

Post by: Cliff1000uk on May 30, 2012, 02:00:16 AM
Yes-O2 have a limited amount of tickets. It states that Blocks A and B will be unavailable so I'm safely assuming there will be VIP packages

Ugh I'm really apprehensive now, I'm not on O2 but I'm gonna try the LiveNation presale tomorrow and then Friday. I have to get 3 tickets so I'm seriously doubting that I'll get good seats. I guess I should be thankful for any seat, really. My fingers are crossed.

Keep checking through O2 , as seats in block B4 were there in the last 5 minutes.

I am sure that this is going to sell-out rather quickly at the look things , and the worrying news that this could be the only UK Show means that there could end up being a lot of broken hearts

Title: Re: UK !!!

A friend whose phone is on O2 has just booked himself and his wife, and myself and my wife some tickets in a row of four (I'm paying him back)... and he told me over the phone that they were 'in the B Block'. I don't know the exact assignments yet, but assuming he didn't get confused on Ticketmaster's truly evil and difficult to follow booking site (easily done), it looks like you *can* get rows that are in the B Block via the O2 deal.

I'll know more later. But in the meantime - wayy hayyy!

Good work MattyB.

It seems that they are randomly offering different blocks. I'm sure this morning they said that Blocks A and B will be unavailable so it must just be some of them that are being reserved for VIP packages.

As you said, regardless of blocks, I will be there under the same roof as Brian, Mike, Al, Bruce and Dave and I can't wait!

I don't care where I sit either - it looks like I just lucked out with the tickets my friend has bought me. And sheesh, there's no way you'd get me shelling out for these VIP packages. The whole way these tickets are being sold really SUCKS, with different blocks being released at different times to generate maximum hard cash, super-expensive VIP packages playing on the love of fans for the band...

And -  a thousand dollars for a limp handshake with an after-show, 'rabbit in the lights' Brian & co and a signed photo? You gotta be kidding me... that's gotta be filed up there with the SMiLE Box surfboard in terms of value for money. That is, I'd rather pay for extensive root canal work in Kazakhstan before I shell for that.

Don, you're giving me nightmares... it's like something from the start of that 70s film, 'The Boys From Brazil'!

[screen goes wavy and fades out]

The 'weathered gnome' Al Jardine (who of course, never ACTUALLY qualified as a dentist because the group took off first... meaning that his last dental work was probably nearly 50 years ago) is groping around in my mouth at Wembley and pulling teeth while the band soundcheck 'Transcendental Meditation' from Friends in the background.

And when I wake up from the inexpertly applied anaesthetic... I find I have The Beak Of An Eagle (TM) where my mouth used to be.

...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Where I live we're famous for the "Dönninghaus Currywurst":

But you can also get a similar one in Berlin, where some of you might be headed in early August. You gotta try it.

I've got block A2 apparently (according to girlfriends txt), thankfully my gf has a job where her boss is miles away so she could get straight on the phone this morning!

I'll have to find out what time she rang though, wonder how quick A1 sold out.  Actually looking at a seating plan it may be A3 that is the front/center block.

Now I can relax after feeling tense since yesterday!  It may be, as said above, that more dates are announced depending on how quick it sells out etc.

Definitely, no floor seats right from the outset. I kept telling myself "these seats aren't good, don't buy 'em!" but I did and I wish I hadn't but at least it's a bit of security. If better seats are to be had tomorrow then I'll try for em. I'll gladly sell the tickets I have to someone who doesn't have poor vision like myself and my dad and wouldn't be too miffed about being up high.

My seat's pretty poor -- though I should have a decent view of Bruce -- but I figured since I'm going to the Italian shows, which are standing, I'll almost certainly be right at the front for those, so I might as well just take anywhere for the UK show.

I'm not THAT stupid  ;D No, when my bank issued my card they gave me a spread sheet with 9 columns and 9 rows, and each cell contains a code. When you do certain purchases on the internet, Mastercard asks for the code in a specific cell ("D2" for instance) and you have to put that code in... It's a security device. Not very practical, to say the least.

I am going to spend all my money on merchandise and make the most of the day! I am so relieved that they are doing a UK date, but they had to make us sweat for a while didn't they?! I was at work when the tickets went on sale and subsequently have missed out which sucks balls. I have still booked the day off work though and will check my financial situation nearer to the time to see if I can justify eBay prices.

Just grab a ticket now, more were released today

Ticketmaster.co.uk, for the wembley show

Me so stupid, my internet settings wouldn't let the 'find tickets' page on ticketmaster load so I assumed at first it was broken, changed the settings and I now have a ticket! It's in the nose-bleed seats but ah well, a ticket's a ticket.

Girlfriend and I have regular tickets, a looooong way from anything …

The prohibitive VIP package prices are depressing.  I've seen the BBs twice at the arena before, in the days when you had to phone for or turn up at the ticket office & buy tickets in person, and you could be sure the front few rows would be full of fellow fans, not millionaires*.

(grumble grumble grumble…!)

* Not intended as a slight to those millionaires who post here, of course ;D

Yeah, the VIP stuff is crap. Maybe we should try and blag our way into the acres of empty seats.... I mean, no-one here is doing the VIP, right?

Well I was in the side block N5 on my own, which I was happy enough with, but my step dad expressed an interest that he would like to go too, so I ended up paying way over the odds to get 2 seats in A2 (row eight). I figure it's a once in a lifetime opportunity (well, maybe not if the 02 gig materializes) and I will enjoy watching with my step dad who is very dear to me. Just hope none of the BBs cry out before the gig!

The upshot of which: I have a spare ticket in block N5 (Proving harder to shift than I'd anticipated!) PM me if anyone's interested.

I would imagine it's like with Wembley, where you had to be an O2 customer. I'm not going to bother with the presale, because good seats are ludicrously priced (£150). I'm going to get myself a £55 nosebleed seat when the general admissions start on Friday.

Just keep it simple and buy from the source when it's there - never, ever buy from a resale site, especially nowadays! They have ways of knowing sometimes - when I went to see Spiritualized last year at the RAH, my ticket was scanned, so who knows what that tells them.

RAH ticket prices are ridiculous £150-60, compared to Wembley where (correct me if i'm wrong) the top prices were about £75-80? I'm still holding out for more UK dates, why would they drag a 14 piece band overseas for 2 nights?

Be careful.  Make sure you buy straight from LiveNation.  We ended up paying $250 for a concert ticket in here in the states that was maybe $125, because we bought from a re-sale site.  Why, I don't know.

Anyone in UK / Ireland who hasn't bought tickets yet, consider this:

I just bought a ticket for the BB day at the Lokerse festival in Belgium on 7 August for......€35. Yes Thirty-Five Euro.

Return flights to Brussels from Dublin £103.

No camping but apparently anyone can 'sleep over' in the night bar (according to the website).

They are head-lining that day (not on last but allocated the longest slot 21.30 - 23.45).

Austrailian Pink Floyd are playing too (!!!)

It is an outdoor festival so you can STAND as close as you can get to the stage.

They have lots of beer and horse meat.

http://www.lokersefeesten.be/en/

€35 for a ticket. I am shitting myself with excitment.
