Title: "Keep It Clean With Al Jardine" Shirt
Post by: Lowbacca on March 29, 2012, 11:31:01 AM
I had a photo once of Al wearing the thing onstage, but I can't find it anymore. Google Search also doesn't bring up anything. Does anybody have a legit photo of Al wearing the legendary shirt?

I'm asking because I wanted to (customize and) buy one (online), but I obviously need the original shirt design.
From what I remember it was kind of white/grey and sported the slogan in a fairly simple layout. But I want to be sure.  :)

Sarcasm/irony? If not: yeah, wanted to wear it to the reunion gig I'm attending. I know, somewhat silly idea.

I would love one of those shirts, but I don't think they actually exist outside of a 70's touring beach boys rider :/

We would just need a legit photo of back in the day, and then customize it ourselves on one of those t-shirt pages I've heard of.  8)

Ed Roach posted a picture of the shirt in question not so long back, I found the thread it was on but the photo has disappeared for some strange reason.

That photo of Al with the "Keep It Clean With Al Jardine" shirt was on Ed Roach's web site, but for some reason the site's down now.

Should be easy to reproduce. From memory it was a basic font, no picture.

                                              Keep It Clean
                                                     with
                                                 Al Jardine

......should do it!

That'd be awesome. Unlikely, though.  :-\ They'll go for the 'stylish elder citizens' look they got goin' on. And I dig that look.

Umh..  the color, font and spacings are not correct.
But I guess the options you have available are quite limited.

Yeah, I know. (Very) limited choice of fonts and colours. I guess the original had a light blue tone, they don't have that colour. I'll try a few other websites later, and then just order the closest version I can manage. It's the idea that counts.  :P

À prospos spacings: odd spacings on Al's original shirt anyway...

Post by: endofposts on March 31, 2012, 11:09:11 AM
Do they still have Shirtique stores at shopping malls?  Where you could get block lettered print transfers of your choice on a plain t-shirt.  So everyone had the same tacky looking "custom" shirts.  I think they peaked in the '70s or perhaps early '80s at the latest.

Someone mentioned the Help Me Rhonda shirt a few posts back. Well, surprisingly enough Top Man sells an exact replica. Forgive me if you guys already knew but this was really surprising to me. Too bad the shirt isn't available at the Top Man that just replaced the bookstore I used to work at here in Chicago.

Really, I think the official t-shirts on BBs.com are all rather ugly or at least really un-imaginative. Have you seen that Surfin' USA shirt?  ::) Well, they should get on it and give us some cool shirts, like "Keep It Clean With Al Jardine", the "Help Me, Rhonda" shirt or one with the "Brother Records" logo.

100% agreed. I'd settle for a surfing stripe T-Shirt at this point.

I might be about to drive myself crazy hunting down that Rhonda Shirt. Anyone know where I might find one in Large/XL?

Maybe even someone on this board has one in this size and is no longer 'husky' enough to fill it out due to dieting/explosive diarrhea, and would be willing to sell? :)

I wore it to the hollywood bowl show. Didn't do the VIP cuz it was too expensive so I wasn't close enough for Mr. Jardine to see. Although I ran into some lady walking around who claimed she was a friend of his and loved the shirt. Got a few more compliments as well.

Got the order through spreadshirt, unfortunately theres not an option so I can just send the pre-made design. It only cost me 20 bucks though.

I usually wear an XL, but the site said they are slim fit, so I ordered an XXL in the Jardine--I think with one washing it will fit perfectly. The Rhonda shirt only went up to XL, but seems to be the right size, as long as it doesn't shrink too much. Thanks to undercover-m for the quick turnaround on the design and upload. Wish I had thought of doing this sooner and I could have worn one of them to the BW show in Detroit on Sunday.

Now we just need:
- Brian's 34th birthday shirt
- Brian's "I'm a fodain' genius!" shirt
- the Smile T-shirt with both covers, like the ones sold by Danimalist in the early '90s and Greg Larson in the late '90s
- and, of course, Mike's damn robe

^ Sounds like the shirt didn't live up to its name :P.

But yeah, I hope they turn out OK! This is my first time using Redbubble... it's almost too easy to use.
I tried making that Brian / Delicious t shirt. The actual font, Windsor, is a commercial font and I don't feel too fancy paying the dues for that. So here's the next best thing, hopefully?

Ha ha, yeah I guess you're right! :-D

It is easy to spend a lot of money quickly on these t-shirts that's for sure!

I would also like to see the Dennis "No Sweat" one he wore in the "It's Ok" Concert documentary when he's drumming at Annaheim I believe.

The Delicious one looks good also.

^ I just googled that, and I regret everything.........

Glad the Keep it Clean shirts are turning out nicely!

here's my best shot at the "no sweat" shirt. I don't think the font is actually Cooper Black, but with the Beach Boys it's not the worst default font to use :P.

I want all those shirts but I need a 3x cos I'm fluffy and the "Help Me, Rhonda" baseball tee only comes in XL.

I just took a gander at that. I think that particular style of shirt (the baseball tee) only comes like that. If you got one of those unisex t shirts then you could get a larger size :).

Great! Thank you, I'll order this soon and may also get the baseball 3/4 sleeve version.  ;D

It's a cool design! Another website has a more faded-out version for a bit cheaper here:

I wonder if they are licensing these officially.  I have some originals in h baseball style with he blue sleeves as worn by Dennis.

I wouldn't mind a few remakes of these from Red Bubble or Society6.

Just found this!

looks a little more like the original compared to the RedBubble one, I think.

If Brian only knew that the day he randomly wore that shirt and had his pic taken, that one day geeks of his music would painstakingly seek out the font and color to make a reproduction.

haha, yes.  i know it's kind of weird, but i love these replications.  really, i don't think it's any more or less valid than any other kind of vintage replica t-shirt, we're just choosing our own (obscure) reference and producing it on-demand rather than buying it from a big retail store.
all of these shirts look like they were made-to-order by the beach boys as inside jokes or something - I wonder what they even meant at the time...  has anybody asked those who were around?

Very cool that they would do that, but it looks to be of poor quality.

I finally, FINALLY, ordered my KEEP IT CLEAN WITH AL JARDINE shirt for the Berlin show on August 16th. All thanks to Quzi's design way back in 2012!  :love

Who else is gonna be there? I'm taking my mother and brother, who are already ecstatic, having never heard Brian's music live.  :-D

What would I give to talk to Al while wearing a "Keep it clean with Al Jardine"-shirt!!  ;D
If it wasn't for my mother's birthday, I might had had the chance this year in Berlin, as Blondie and I have common friends and maybe I could've met some of the guys.  :(

It's a shame you're not gonna be there! If I get a reaction from Al (sitting front row!) you'll be the first to know!  :-D
