Anyone seen that show featuring the Duggars?  The Dad, Jim Bob (yes, that is his real name) is "known as a one-issue politician --- a conservative Republican who cares only about stopping abortions."  You can say that again.

This is terrifying.  How many kids are each of these going to responsible for, and their kids and their kids and so on!!!???  And just look at them!!!  Aaaarggghhhh!!!!!!!   :o

You should check out their docu-special on Discovery Health channel.  It's quite amazing how well they get along as a family.

I have no idea who the family in the picture is or if they are Christians.  I'm just looking at Barry David's comments and seeing a thread getting uglier with each message, especially given we are talking about two real families consisting of real people.

Well, I think somebody mentioned they're right wing anti-abortion christians, or at least the head of the family is.  That was part of the irony given the size of the family.  I couldn't help but think you're getting touchy because of your own religious affiliations.  Sorry, I'm British and to me, these people look a certain type, a type that kind of gives many of us over here nightmares.  The 'slay' comment - OK I was playing to a sci-fi movie running in my head which I sort of made reference to in a previous post.  Sorry if it didn't translate too well.  No, I don't endorse crude sexual comments like the one you refer to.

If there's one aspect of American culture that hasn't really reached us over here in the UK, it's the right-wing, pro-life extremist, white teethed, side parted hair, anti everything, disney lovin', hymn singin', Darwin hatin' Republican type.
I think even our own right-wing, eccentric fuddy duddy's are petrified by these sorts.

Let's face it - these people have a great deal of power and influence in the world.

Those kids look happy and healthy and secure, and if anyone's gonna have a bunch of kids, these parents look like a good choice to do it.  To identify them as extremists with white teeth (goodness no, not white teeth!) or Darwin-haters, from a picture and description as being anti-abortion, is no better than saying that the identifier must be a grey-toothed anti-life Darwin-loving extremist.  It's all nonsense, but one thing is for sure - not everyone, when presented with a picture of a big, loving family, is prone to speculating about if Mom's plumbing is getting worn out.  In fact, it takes a certain level of juvenility...

I'm not anti-everything and I merely ENJOY Disney, but the others pretty much categorize me.  Wait, what is a pro-life extremist?  Eh, who cares.  I'm probably that, too.

A funny moment on each of their Discovery specials is the sonogram, with all the kids and Dad lined up watching Mom in the bed with the doctor...now, this might not seem all that funny, but here's the catch: no one knows whether it's a boy or a girl.  It's just funny to see how innocently these kid get excited everytime... :)

I think it's amazing she never had twins!!!! Hey...all those kids from the same two parents???? it's a miracle!!! deal with it!!!  ;D At least they have a healthy sex life...

I guess my question is......when they all go on a family outing, how many vehicles do they have to take, or do they own a bus?

I love children but cannot imagine having that many kids....I would be afraid that I would end up leaving someone at Walmart accidently.

My sister with her monster family has some long prison-van.  It's like a 15-passenger vehicle.

So you've got like eight thousand kids learning only piano and violin? Why not spread them all out and start up a huge family orchestra with every needed instrument?

I'm going to say something. My wife & I have lost two daughters-one miscarriage (Drew) and one stillbirth (Jessica). Yesterday (3/19/06) would've been Drew's birthday. Heywood, what you said personally offended me. I know you said that as a joke, but please be careful...one person's joke can be another's heartache.

I'm extremely liberal, and left-wing, non-Christian (although I follower of God; I just dont' classify myself as anything), but pro-life. Not everyone can be painted with the same brush.
