Title: Mike Love On VH-1 Classic
Post by: Roger Ryan on March 14, 2006, 09:32:53 AM
Did anyone else catch Mike Love on VH-1 Classic last night? He was part of a half-hour Beach Boys fest to promote "The Sounds Of Summer" collection. Nothing very interesting (or notorious), just Mike telling the same old anecdotes about the band creating the southern California scene, Brian's obsession with Four Freshman harmonies, performing in Washington D.C. and Philadephia on July 4th, etc. These interview clips were interspersed with videos from 1964's "The Lost Concert" and the T.A.M.I. Show, plus "Kokomo", of course. The intro to the latter was somewhat grating: Mike commented that the Beach Boys just kept having bigger and bigger hits with the biggest one being "Good Vibrations"...until "Kokomo" was released 22 years later! Cue the "Kokomo" video...aagh!

In this instance, the mistakes were the highlights: the host of the show referred to the band having their first hit, "Surfin' Safari" in 1964, and "I Get Around" was said to be found on the box set "Good Vibrations: Thirteen Years Of The Beach Boys" (we all know the boys ruled from 1980 - 1993!).
