Title: Tomorrow with Tom Snyder
Post by: Jay on February 20, 2011, 07:45:46 PM
I wasn't sure where this topic would fit the best. Somebody can move it to the "sandbox" area if it would be better there. I just got a pretty cool dvd a couple days ago. It's a two disc set called "John, Paul, Tom, and Ringo". Disc one is an episode of "Tomorrow with Tom Snyder" with John Lennon as the guest interview. Disc two ha two episodes of the show. One has an interview with Paul and Linda Mccartney, and the other has an inerview with Ringo Starr. The quality is decent. You can tell it's not straight from the master, but it's not far off. I know that Carl Wilson was a guest on the show during his solo tour promoting his first solo album. I was just wondering if the episode with Carl has been officially released? Although, I imagine that if it has been released I would have read about it on here.   ;D The "John, Paul, Tom, and Ringo" set seems fairly low budget. It's not to fancy or anything, but the picture and audio quality is pretty good. I was just thinking that this would be a great way to release Carl's appearance on the show. It doesn't have to be a "mainstream" dvd, meaning that the "powers that be" don't have to shell out a lot of cash, as long as the visual and audio aspect of it is up to snuff.

Seeing the Carl Wilson episode getting released would be nice, but I doubt it will ever happen. Nice live performances of Hold Me and Heaven + a short (and not so interesting) interview. A video-recording circulates. And till not so long ago an almost complete broadcast could be found on YouTube (until they blocked my account...  :-\ )

I saw that interview as it was aired. It was awful. I was expecting to hear about Carl's decision to go solo with all the details. Instead all he was asked (again and again) was about California Girls and if there was any hostilities from all the other girls out there who were not from California. Carl was very polite but you could tell he was surprised with this line of questioning. It was obvious that someone hadn't done their homework before the interview.

Why would they delete your account now? How long has it been on YouTube, two years?  >:(

Well.... it was a matter of time, but I did manage to maintain it for +3 years I think. More BB-related channels were blocked the last couple of months, so I wasn't surprised. It was weird though that the 3rd and final/definite blocking/warning happened to be the 1988 4th Of July broadcast at Disney World with the Boys playbacking Kokomo and Wipe Out (with Fat Boys). I could imagine that other tubes would be blocked... but this one? Would have been cool if the channel had stayed up for a few months more... then I would have been able to see the Forever clip hit the 1 million viewers boundary.

This is tough for me to write because Tom Snyder was an acquaintance and he died too young. He was a fabulous interviewer but he blew it on Carl's  interview. I saw the broadcast live and was shocked to see and hear Tom ask Carl, "When you're out doing concerts, do the other Beach Boys sit in the audience and throw rocks at you?" Carl looked shocked but calmly answered "No, no, of course not. They would never do that."

Tom asked , it seemed repeatedly......."but why....ALL California girls......?  Carl looked away from Tom at one point...obviously frustrated or annoyed...looked off camera with raised eyebrow and a WTF look on his face.

I would so love to see this footage. A suggestion: a friend of mine has been posting clips of Paul Revere and the Raiders to youtube, , but after getting notices from youtube to take down this footage of copyrighted material, he has gone to marking them 'unlisted'. He only shares them with friends. Hasn't gotten any notices from the copyright people since. Maybe you could try this?

I dunno I've had private and unlisted videos automatically blocked or muted for copyrighted content.
