Title: With Me Tonight - April version?
Post by: Jeff on February 08, 2011, 10:44:26 AM
Can anyone clarify for me the general recording dates for With Me Tonight?

The Smiley Smile version is listed as having been recorded on 6/30/67.  I believe there's also a second, booted version that was recorded during the April 1967 Vegetables sessions.

And then there's the Hawthorne version (called "You're With Me Tonight").  The Hawthorne liner notes say it was recorded in June 1967.  Is this in fact true?

The Smile version of With Me Tonight seems to date from a period right before the main Vega-Tables sessions in April; I think it's sometime possibly in late February or March. I don't think any sheets or information have come out besides the recordings themselves.

the only other version i know a more piano driven riff at the beginning.
really just sounds like the original, more loud of a backing mix and a louder "on and on she goes dum-be-do-da, on and on she goes dum-be-do"    :afro

That sounds like what I've heard as well.

The Hawthorne version is much different from that, but it seems like I remember someone saying that the Hawthorne version also was from April or so, despite what the liner notes say.  Am I just making that up?
