You should contact Ed Roach or Jon Stebbins via PM, if you want. Jon literally wrote the book on your father, and Ed was a very close friend who has told us wonderful stories about Dennis and Carl (and needs to write his own book, dammit!  ;D). I hope this place can educate you as to the wonderful, if troubled man your biological father was.

In regards to the Manson family, Dennis had no way of knowing what would happen and by all accounts when things started to get scary he got away from it.  Also, he was hardly the only musician/celebrity to be involved with Charles Manson.  He's just the most widely publicized of them.  I don't think you should let that bother you.  I don't think he should have let it bother him either, though I'm sure it did.

I came here alittle over a year ago and told all the members, I had to leave for awhile, it was to much for me to handle. I came back because, im ready to face reality. I'm glad to be back. I can't sing at all, i have never played the drums or any music in my life. I do not have his talent in that department.

btw, i also have this biography type thing on Dennis that was on BBC radio a couple years ago.  It's similar to the youtube documentary, but it's different interviews with different people.

Thanks. It's a lovely song. Mom said she has his album put away, i don't know what album it is, i will see her sunday and find out. She said, he gave it to her, she keep it wrapped in plastic all this time, it should be in good condition. Is it possible she has the one you all talk about. I only heard some of it on youtube.

So, on topic, yeah you definitely seem to look very much like Dennis on that picture. But people who know you and who knew Dennis are the only ones that really should be trusted, because a picture can fool you sometimes. Like others already mentiones, I think you should write and try to get in contact with Ed Roach and Jon Stebbins.
BTW wasn't there a son of Dennis' about a few years ago that got in contact with Michael or Carl B. through the Blue Bamboo Room -message board? Maybe thats also a way to lear more about Dennis and get in contact with his relatives

You sound about the same age as one of my children, who was born in June of 1984.  It seems from your posts that you are able to see the "best in people" and know how to weed through stuff that is not positive.  Your mother did a great job!  Brava to her!

Paulos, I think was correct in a sense that you can learn a lot about someone by listening or reading their work, because it does come from their soul.  I think Dennis had a lot of depth to him and a lot of spirit for which he was famous.  And you are wise to look for all the good stuff that you can.  Some of his music is very intense, and like your mother, I have put his album "away" (Pacific Ocean Blue) but what is very cool is the stuff that he worked on from the Carl and the Passions era, and that is a great place to start.

What is amazing to me, after all my time, since being a BB fan as a teen...is that really prominent people like Desi Arnaz, Jr. and John Stamos were profoundly influenced by Dennis and that Dennis was a sort of idol for them.  It is hard those "older guys" (who aren't old for me - but maybe for you.   On a DVD done by a man named Billy Hinsche (who was in a band with Desi Arnaz, Jr.) but was Carl's (Dennis brother) brother-in-law, he did interviews with people who knew Dennis best and have a lot of insight.   

And having probably grown up watching John Stamos, you probably know, or seen from re-runs on TV that he sang "Forever" at his Full House "wedding."  I have seen John Stamos several times when he tours with the Beach Boys and he always takes time before he sings "Forever" to talk about Dennis and how he was his (John's) idol. 

So, even though Dennis had a short life, he left an impression that is still a sort of inspiration to other musicians to follow in his footsteps and has left some pretty strong music, which has endured, and will continue endure because people like Billy Hinsche took the time to make the movie "Forever" and others have written books, and still, like John Stamos others talk about Dennis onstage for those who knew him and those who were not even born when he was in the band.  For, them, it is a history lesson about a "giant."

Thank you. I don't know what album mom has, she has much more to talk to me about on sunday. I think, she's getting worried about me. I don't want to find (family members) they are not my family. I heard about the boy that Dennis had and met his son's, that's not for me...not at this time. Maybe his friends, if they want to talk with me. I flipped out alittle when i watched youtube last night, it took mom an hour to calm me down, my problem was, why didn't somebody force him to get help, people that knew him drove by without putting him in their car and taking him to a hospital. They made brian go to a rehab, why not dennis?? Even mom could have done something, she was carrying me inside her, didn't she want me to have a decent father. I thought she could have got ahold of his family, but she didn't. I'm better today, i understand, it was out of her hands. It's done and over with, i will let it go. My mom was afraid to tell me for years, for this reason, Dennis being famuos and me being able to find out about him on the internet. Maybe she regrets telling me. I must to her im sorry, she can't help she cared for a beach boy.

You have learned a lot in your short life...especially that you cannot help how you feel and how people become attracted to each other and that is one of the great mysteries and wonders of life, and certainly the most popular topic ever written about and "sung about."  

More is known, now, about addiction, than was, at that time, and people have to be willing to go an get help.  "You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make them drink." - That is an old expression which is still true.   I am sure that people tried, and tried hard because they loved Dennis.  

There is a lot of information out there, and a challenge will be to filter out what is good and what will be good for "you" and in a way that benefits your "soul."  Dennis wrote simply, which was his "genius" - not everyone can find the essence of a feeling and spin that idea, with notes on a piano and words which came from an inspiration.  

Being the child of someone in public office, or famous because of a music career, or acting career can be a challenge.   But it is an exciting place, to unearth the poetry in music that he wrote.  

There is a really old movie, Dr. Zhivago, (my favorite) that you could rent, where a young girl discovers [told by her uncle]  that her father (whom she never met) was a famous poet.  His journey was as a doctor during the Russian revolution, and he fell in love with a woman who was not his wife.    

(It is one of those "period" movies, and done in the 1960's when the Beach Boys became really famous.) And his (Dr. Zhivago's) legacy to her, even though he never knew her, was his poetry, which was beloved in his country, not unlike Dennis' work, which is beloved by the whole world.    

There may be a different sort of wonderful legacy for you, in Dennis' music and his performances as a legendary rock and roll drummer.   And your positive perspective will be your greatest asset.     ;)

Of course I didn't wanna say that you were fooling, only that pictures are just that, pictures, and I guess if you're really trying to find out about your genes, you should get in contact with people that actually knew him and who have the opportunity to see you in real life.  Most of us haven't met him (for example, I was born around the time you were, after his death) and we only know our stuff from books, pictures, websites etc. which of course is a good start but to see a person on a pic or standing right before you is a different thing. Someone mentioned Billy Hinsche. Of course he would be a fantastic source. He's posting on the BeachBoysBritain-messageboard but you could also reach him on facebook.
That's of course not saying that you shouldn't post here, as it's really interesting for us freaky Beach Boys-fans.  :-D  And you also seem like a nice person. You may find out alot of info about Wilson's life around here.

May I ask, do you listen to the Beach Boys ? It would be interesting if you had some kind of connection even before you knew about your (biological) father.


And again back to the books. If you want to know about Dennis' last months, you should, as somebody already said somewhere, read Steve Gaines' "Heroes & Villains". Years ago I asked Ed Roach on the Blue Bamboo Room how accurate it was and he said it was frightning because there were stories mentioned that he thought only he and Dennis would know. I can't say that the rest of the book is as true. But there are worse ones.
The TV-movie "Summer dreams" was based on that book, and Bruce Greenwood played Dennis. You can at least watch parts of it on youtube. Click here:

The movie is quite bad (it's known as the "beard-movie" in Beach Boys land) but it got alot of people, me included, really into the Beach Boys' and especially the troubles Dennis went through, plus his coolnes. But don't be fooled, 'cause there is a very beautiful song "Dennis" is playing twice in the movie. That one was written for the movie though and just used for effect. Has nothing to do with him, although it kinda sounds like his style

I have listened to all the beach boys music, well, maybe not all, enough. I have all the books, i got them on amazon. Most of the books are about brian, some about Denny, but brian is the main focus on every book and movie I seen. Tomorrow is a day i will be watching youtube, finding things i never seen. As far as contacting Billy- Ed- Jon, maybe someday. They should all know of me by now, im sure they know by now. They know where to find me, i figuard they don't care, to many years have gone by. I'm fine and even planning on a vacation soon, i want to go to L.A. it's only 5 hours away, going to try to get mom to go with me, she's the one that can take me where i want to go. I don't know how she's going to take that I'll find out tomorrow....wish me luck.

Since you're "going to LA" someday...  where are you now? Somewhere close to LA or did you grow up and now live, some other part of CA?

You know, many people grow up not knowing who their birth parents were. My cousin was adopted and has no interest in knowing. Others want to know. I think knowing can be a good thing-- it helps you understand more about who you are.

Something I got out of that Dennis documentary is that a lot of people really, really loved him. The emotion in his friends' voices when the spoke about him, decades after his death, was very intense. So while the doc was heartbreaking, you can take that positive part from it. He gave a lot of people a lot of love, and he touched people's lives forever.

My mom never seen youtube or keep up with the beach boys. This is all new to her. She never knew Dennis was talked about like this, or he was so loved by his fans to this day. She is amazed he is loved so much by all you. She now understands, what im doing on here. She had tears in her eyes and left the room, as i said, this was her life im bringing back up, Her memories are fresh and she is willing to talk more, as of going to LA, im not sure she can do that at this time, i think some hurt she has carried is sneaking up on her. My dad told me, she was hurt by Dennis never returning to talk about the baby. My poor mom, i never knew this.

I think he would have.  But he was hardly functioning by that time.  And I think we're all glad to help.  Probably telling of what kind of fans the beach boys attracted.

Question: Do Carl's boy's have a band? I never heard their music. How about Denny's kids, are they talented like Denny. The only Wilson's that I know are Brian's girls that made it big in music. I remember listening to Wilson Phillips, not knowing their back ground, and what a surprise I got when I found out who they were.

In Bloom is comprised of Justyn Wilson, Carl B. Wilson, and Mario Tucker. I don't know how active they are as a band these days, but they do show up at CWF benefits. Jonah Wilson sells high-end real estate. Dennis' son Michael owns a restaurant in Culver City, called appropriately "Wilson." Last I heard, Carl was working there as well. Scott Wilson is in the construction business and he built the Beach Boys Historical Monument in Hawthorne.

I was at the concert at Royce Hall in 2002, where Carl B. Wilson sang "Forever" with In Bloom. Carl brought the house down with his rendition, it seemed like he was channeling his dad at times -- a very emotional performance. He's one hard-working drummer, too, and uses one of his dad's kits.

At the very least, regardless of whether or not you think she's legit (I for one have strong reason to believe she is), she's still a human being. Wish people would remember to treat others with some sort of respect and decency.

I been a member here a long time, haven't posted for a long time. I did at BW board and i felt bad later. I pm her and we talked it out. She was a tell it like it is kinda gal but we worked it out. I never posted here, i didnt want to get her mad again. A member here pm me and told me about her photo a member had up so i came to see and seen that shes only a guest. I hope she wasnt banned, i think she quit this board on her own. She has to much information and just the way she carried herself about dennis wilson showed me there was a connection.
