That documentary: the Devil and Daniel Johnston is one of the best music-documentaries I've ever seen. Though i think if he weren't mentally ill, he wouldn't get 10% the credit he gets as a songwriter. Nothing like being crazy to pique people's attention and spur their imaginations. Also, I don't know if Johnston is quite better than Brian Wilson but I guess I'm a little biased, after all! He certainly has the same endearing Love You qualities though at times, that's for sure...
