I find ADITLOAT to be the saddest Beach Boys song ever made and the Coda is the greatest ending to any Beach Boys song I have ever heard.....and thus I absolutely love it. Funny, that for the majority of the song there are no Beach Boys even singing on it.  :o

I agree ADITLOAT has a great coda but i prefer the Surf's Up Coda  :). Kiss Me Baby would be Top 40 for me along with others like Fun Fun Fun, Girl Don't Tell Me and Sail On Sailor as well. I'd say its a 3 way tie for saddest beach boys song, ADITLOAT along with 'Til I Die and Still i Dream Of It.

Still I Dream Of It is definitely in my top 20. That line "Like a dream that's somehow linked to all the stars above" gets me everytime....It makes no sense to me but it is incredibly surreal.

Seems like most of us would pick a similar top 30 but each of us has a few odd personal favorites.

Some songs, like Surf's Up, could've been higher if I hadn't felt that there aren't a definitive version of them. H&V, which didn't make my, list is another example. Other suffer from being played too much, like Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows and Good Vibrations which objectively may be "better" songs than many others on the list but which are (at least temporarly) worn out for me.

Soulful Old Man Sunshine is definitely in my top 30. I just bought the Endless Harmony Soundtrack and have listened the heck out of that song.

You find it alarming listening to 'Love You' more than 'Pet Sounds' ????? no , no no so do i !!!!!! And i am very sure that we are not alone, by far :-)

Love You is awesome, f*** the haters. Better than Pet Sounds? Nearly.

ADITLOAT is so sad it's almost disturbing. Never thought of it as a put-on.

My vote for the saddest BB song goes to 'Still I Dream Of It'. It sounds to me like an utterly depressed man trying hard to think happy thoughts.

That's a nice and very fitting description, in fact I think it might apply to at least half of the Love You album as well (and that's probably why many of these songs are so incredibly moving).

Personally, I'd probably have "Sail Plane Song" on there.  I know its not a real song and it was eventually transformed into "Loop de Loop," but something about its pretty haunting and childlike.

I used to be a chart freak when I was a kid, and I used to create lists of my to 300 favorite songs of all time...then I'd remember I forgot a song and try to squeeze it in the list, then change all the numbers, and then eventually re-write it so it wouldn't be messy, only to remember another 3 songs I forgot!  I had many other obsessions like this, even creating elaborate wall charts of different clothes I wore on different days, to make sure no one saw me wear the same thing too often.  Or even creating my own TV station with a primetime lineup that competed with the then-current primetime lineups on the 4 major networks at the time.

Yeah, I was a weird kid who needed to get out more often!  :-D

When I became a BB fan in 1991, I told myself that I would never make anything more than a top ten for BB songs, lest I make being a BB fan a lot of hard work!  (Yeah, there was the setlist archive which I eventually filled with 1000 fan setlists, but that's different, ok well not really... :-D )

So...I'm still not gonna break that tradition...it would take probably 1 or 2 hours to put together a top 30...but here's my top 5! (not including live or solo stuff)

It's a better crop of songs than the actual tracklisting as far as I'm concerned.  I suppose there are some obligatory inclusions like Surfin' USA, but #5 hit or not I'd rather Rock and Roll Music vanish off the face of the earth.  The new album rightfully deserves some kind of representation as it will, but in fairness a lot of these lists came out before TWGMTR.

I think the one thing that stands out to me above all else though is how All I Wanna Do still hasn't been included on anything other than Sunflower, yet placed 8th on here out of their entire catalogue.

That's a seriously interesting - and good - top 20

An ideal compilation for me would feature something resembling those selections.  Closest existing one I can think of is Good Vibrations: Best of the Beach Boys, and it really only happened because they couldn't use any tracks pre-Pet Sounds.  Not that I have anything against a lot of their early songs, but it usually comes at the cost of the late 60's/early 70's material because of the commercial success.
