Whatcha do for a living?

I graduated college back in spring of 09 with a degree in Elementary Education.

I've mostly just been a teacher's aid in a special ed class one semester, substituted for 1 year, and am currently a 2nd grade teacher's aid; building up the resume.  ;)

and I've been working at a local hospital for 5 years in the cafeteria, washing dishes. Amazing how much one gets paid to handle patients trays and plates.

English Student at large! Although given the major preoccupation I have with music, people assume I study that. Which is irritating, in a somewhat complimentary way  ;D

i've been told the same about film...my knowledge (mostly just useless trivia) makes people think I should be a movie director or writer.

I'm a student. Taking a couple culinary arts classes this semester, hoping I find it interesting enough to continue with it.

As for me, I have a dual B.S in community nutrition and exercise science and I teach personal training certification classes and write for LiveStrong.

Spent a few years in college. Now I work for a small landscaping company. We plant, mulch, build walls, decks, patios, etc. It's a fun job - hard work but well worth it...most of the work is in the summer - I have quite a hiatus in the winter. I'm also doing a little free-lance web design on the side.

Lately I've been recording some local artists' music....as well as my own. I keep a fairly busy life.

Graduated college about 2 years ago (BA in Audio-Radio Production-basically Radio Broadcast/Mass Communication with some recording and audio engineering mixed in.) ...currently working as night manager at a local supermarket because there isn't crap for jobs where I live (still living with a parental unit- ;D cheaper!) ...trying to save up money to eventually get somewhere else and maybe find something in my field.

is there anyway your sister is a beach boys fan too? and could hook up with me?  ;D

i will admit, the whole teaching kids gig is a great pickup line...the ladies think its cute

Well she is single and I try my best to make her a Beach Boys fan, but it has been an uphill battle.

I have come to the realisation that I have been acting in a show in some capacity since early September. Apparently, this would qualify me as a budding amateur actor. How on earth did this happen.

I own and operate a language school in the Czech Republic. We teach English and German to local adults and businesses and a smattering of kids. There's not much money in it  but gosh, do I love it.

Right now, don't do anything I get paid for - head office closed down my bakery/coffee shop with ten days notice March 27th last year. Last time I was properly unemployed was 20 years ago and man, things are different now.

But, gives me time to research stuff, and read. Hours are great, but the pay sucks.  ;D

I was recently approached by my Doctor. He told me that his office is putting in a sound system, and he suggested hiring me as a "music consultant". Basically I would be in charge of programming a week's worth of music to be played in the offices and waiting rooms.  ;D

Just saw this, and it is unbelievably true. I'm thinking of moving into the library and saving on rent, it's not like i actually use my flat nowadays  :(

I'm a desktop publisher/graphic designer. I design brochures, advertisements, packagings, etc. In my spare time I review CDs and DVDs for a magazine and an e-zine.

Currently I'm unemployed as I'm backpacking around Australia  ;D Worked in the same crappy job for four years up until 9 weeks ago and am so glad I quit. Outside of the Smiley Smile board I listen to The Beach Boys. A lot.

That is Cool!  When you mentioned not being home to get your ESQ's, I thought you were working elsewhere. Nice to know you're simply enjoying yourself.

Can you tell me any designs that you're responsible for?

Oh gosh...a lot of second/third string Disney stuff! I think I did the Air Buddies 4 and 6, as well as some oldies (Greyfriars Bobby, Darby O'Gill and the Little People, Castaway Cowboy, Tonka [I think], Scandalous John, Ten Who Dared, stuff like that). Also animated the Toy Story 3 DVD menu, though there was a longer version I did that was much better. I also animated a lot of game stuff for Bambi and Peter Pan. Did a lot of other non-Disney kid stuff, like Bob the Builder,Thomas the Tank Engine, Angelina Ballerina. I did a rather complicated motion menu for Eloise at the Plaza.

Also did some motion comics that mostly got used as DVD bonus materials.

I'm a translator and editor of books mainly on architecture, a subject I know next to nothing about. But it pays well.

I had the same question after reading your story. BBs fan & acting seem like 2 polar opposites, so I bet you weren't good at acting. Though maybe you quit it by now.

Sounds great! I can only imagine how many variety of artists you've listened to in your life (as reviewing CDs would require large music outlook?).

I hadn't read this thread in a while, kinda forgot...I've been an ABA therapist for autistic kids for the past year...it's not exactly teaching in a school but it's still in the same area mostly.

Also, saw the post about the musical coordinator at a doctors office? My doctor has been known to love the beach boys, everytime I visit, I'm reading a different beach boys or related book and before we even talk about me, we discuss the book and what's going on in the BB universe.
The music there is usually oldies, some beach boys greatest hits play often.

Agreed, this same person called me a "bizarre granny" for liking the DW VoiceOver on the BBs Christmas album. :lol

Hi RangeRoverA1,  We are having effects from the polar vortex dipping down in the northern states.  It's what makes it so cold where you are, but from what I can tell yours is called Artic vortex.  Not sure what the difference is, but both make it real cold.  Parents are not letting the kids out to play in my area.  It's not common.  I don't remember having it before in the 15 years that I have lived here.  Another occurrence is just beginning here in New York, expected to last until early February.  We are also having more snow this winter.  I like that.

2 feelsflow: I knew that it's cold in New York, but I didn't know that it's that cold that even kids stay at home. And yes, I agree that more snow is a good sign. I like snowy weather.

I agree with Billy, the rhythm was delivered well, but that's it. No artistry, lack of playfulness etc. So, I was being realistic rather than rude when I left that remark. Don't know why pixletwin or anyone thought so. However, I agree about the BBs + acting comment, it's indeed possible to have both in one. Bad phrasing on my side, though I'm sure I meant sth. I don't recall now.

2 Zach: You hoped rightly, I don't live there. You know, Russia is a big land & consists of lots of regions. The 1 you mentioned I've never been to. -65 is a crazy temperature even for Russian winters. The place where I live is -40 at worst; luckily it happens occasionally. For instance, today it is -21-19.

Yr basing my acting on inebriated kareoke??? You've never seen me act. That's like saying, idk, you're a terrible poet based on the prose posts you write here. LOL at you thinking i'm somehow not getting the artistry of the goshdarn Ignition remix across, it's hardly 'To be or not to be'

BTW I am a banging actor if I say so myself, sold out shows, got some good reviews, played lead in several things (Shakespeare and other tings), but then there's no way you can pass judgement on it because you've never seen me act. Sorry if i'm overreacting.

Fair answer but then again, weren't you doing an R Kelly impersonation, donning the black coat & even repeating his intro spoken lines? I'd say it can at least be considered a small type of acting. Yes, it's no Hamlet, however, it's not necessarily about serious performance, being an entertainer is a complex task too, as you may know. That's what I hinted at. Anyway, it's a positive sign that you are confident about your real talents etc. Belittling yourself ain't good.

Kareoke has nothing to do with acting in drama! I'm not quite sure how you're equating the two outside of 'well i wasn't entertained' and it's like, no sh*t, it's a fuckin kareoke video done for the benefit of two people. I'm not even sure it was a success on those grounds.

I mean, based on this you said I can't act, and it just happened that I actually pride myself on my acting as something I initially found very hard to do and have achieved a bunch of things I would have never thought I could have done a few years ago so IDK, it means a lot to me. Although you obv had no idea about all that, so it's no biggie really.
