Title: What's wrong with me? I've the Island FEVER Post by: punkinhead on December 08, 2010, 07:15:20 PM Seriously, I've been loving this song a whole lot. I think it's the UK version, the one that doesn't start with the nature sounds at the beginning. I can't believe I've overlooked this for years.
Is there something wrong with me though? I've always despised the SIP album. Hey doc I need a pain reliever I got the island fever !! BTW, is there any riffs or parts in this song? like borrowed or recycled like Brian does? That part about 'Come on Baby Wouldn't it Be Nice' sounds really familiar. Title: Re: What's wrong with me? I've the Island FEVER Post by: grillo on December 08, 2010, 08:09:07 PM Seriously? Mike's vocal is okay, but this song really blows and is so soul-less it actually steals part of yours every time you listen to it.

Mike's vocal is okay, but this song really blows and is so soul-less it actually steals part of yours every time you listen to it. I like Al's vocals along with Carl's backing vocals. Also, Van Dyke's accordion is always a plus. For the longest time, the only tune I really enjoyed was: Lahaina Aloha...and that was mainly the chorus that I liked. Title: Re: What's wrong with me? I've the Island FEVER Post by: punkinhead on December 08, 2010, 08:54:27 PM Well, I do know the 'Bow bow bow ooo' is borrowed from Getcha Back ;)
And with further listening and re-tread to other songs in my head, the part I was thinkin of earlier 'Come on Baby Wouldn't it Be Nice' reminds me of Harry Nilsson singing: "Come on baby, let the good times roll"..... I know that's a far stretch and there may be a mob outside my house for comparing something from SIP to the genius of Harry Nilsson, but it just reminded me of it...I hear the lynching mob outside my window now. We're out there to string up all your copies of SIP Title: Re: What's wrong with me? Title: Re: What's wrong with me? I've the Island FEVER Post by: MBE on December 09, 2010, 06:09:58 AM You know some of the melodies on the LP (I have a rare Koren vinyl pressing) aren't bad but it's just the way a lot of music sounded at the time in that it was recorded ie mainly without real instruments. Of course the lyrics are very bad as are some of the songs as concepts. The vocals are pretty decent. but there was nothing for them to fall back on. In other words the final result was so poor that the good points of the songs no longer matter.

I've the Island FEVER Post by: phirnis on December 09, 2010, 11:23:01 AM "Island Fever" could've used some more work on the lyrics. They're repetitive to the point of sounding very obviously unfinished. That said, it's one of the three songs on SIP I actually find myself listening to from time to time (the other two being "Still Surfin'" and of course "Lahaina Aloha", which I think is the best song on the album by far, in fact it's one of my favourite post-1979 BB songs).

Yeah, I feel a lot of the lyrics need worked on, mostly the verses. I find the chorus part on half the songs to be the best part...which I guess Mike/Terry were just trying to get something catchy/remember-able, which kind of worked, but not really. Title: Re: What's wrong with me? I've the Island FEVER Post by: Musketeer on December 09, 2010, 01:33:54 PM No one thinks Island Fever sounds even a tiny bit like Kokomo?
Lahania Aloha is my favorite on that album mostly for Carl's vocals. And Carl's vocals are one of the few things on that album that don't suck. Title: Re: What's wrong with me? I think Island Fever sounds a teensy weensy almost can't hear it bit like Kokomo. OK? Title: Re: What's wrong with me? I've the Island FEVER Post by: Dave in KC on December 09, 2010, 04:17:29 PM I totally agree. From the first listen the day it was released, I always felt a heavy influence on the entire album concept and feel to the general musical themes expressed in K.
