I've seen lots of Beatles stuff (documentaries, boots, etc.) but I have never came across these clips.

This one is during/after the 1968 White Album/Hey Jude sessions. All the boys happily at work (esp. Lennon/McCartney). Some interaction between Harrison and Martin. Great stuff. Where did it come from? And no, this ain't LET IT BE sessions.

This next clip is the 'Hey Bulldog' video. NO, not the one with Lady Madonna playing over the filmed session as seen in the original promo and Anthology series! This is the actual 'Hey Bulldog' video with scenes I haven't seen before (so this not some fan edit -- IF IT IS, I'm fucking impressed with where he got the additional footage, than anything else). But it's not. It's the deal. ABC logo? (beats me)

Based upon the looks of the Beatles, I am guessing that they were rehearsing for the TV appearance performing Hey Jude as seen on Anthology.  Definitely mid 1968.

Music!  The Beatles were filmed rehearsing 'Hey Jude' in the studio by the National Music Council of Great Britain for a documentary called 'Music!' 

Not only that, but the hair styles and clothes are different, too. Lennon ain't wearing that purple let it be shirt.

ABC premiered that video back in 1999.

Hey Bulldog is seriously in the running for Top 5 underrated Beatles of all time.  That song just rocks.

So when did ABC show the video?  I totally missed it if they did.

It was around the time of the re-release of Yellow Submarine, both the movie on VHS/DVD and the remastered/remixed "songtrack", which shows how great The Beatles' recordings can sound with a little more modern mastering, meaning something post-80s.

I saw the "Hey Bulldog" clip on VH1 as part of their showings of "the Beatles: a Mod Odyssey." But I think 2020 showed it or something.

Anyone remember that crap special called "The Beatles: Revolution"? That did have a cool clip of Paul playing "Blackbird" from 1968.

And this must be a vintage edit of "Hello Goodbye" one of the original promos. What was shown on Anthology is a new edit of the footage.

Man, that was part of my Beatles indoctrination!  The local UHF station (anyone remember those?) showed those mixed in with Bugs Bunny cartoons and such on TV after school every day, or in the morning before school.  So my first exposure to the Beatles en masse was from those cartoons.  I actually special ordered "Got to Get You Into My Life" on 45 after hearing it on there, my very first Beatles purchase.  From there it only exploded.

Hard to imagine those in heavy rotation in 1981 but there you go.

George said in a interview with Guitar World back in 1999 (promoting the re-release of "Yellow Submarine") that the Apple bought up all the rights to those Saturday morning cartoons, just to have 'em and that they might do something with them one day. Having just watched a couple, they aren't anywhere near as bad as I was expecting. They are quite fun and funny. Perfect, Jeff, like you said, to indoctrinate some youth... this time around on DVD.

Then again, in the same interview George discussed plans for an archival release of some of his stuff and well, that hasn't happened yet either.

The real "Hey Bulldog" promo footage was indeed screened on an episode of ABC's newsmagazine "20/20", and I remember watching it and taping it after learning it would be on. They built it up on the show as a big deal - and it was a really cool thing to see, even though the footage itself was what they used for the "Lady Madonna" promo. Great video quality - I really, really enjoy watching any clip like that. Lennon and McCartney doing the vocals around a single microphone is a priceless shot.

The Beatles cartoons, besides being on various local stations, were being screened every weekend on MTV in the mid 1980's. The best part was the music, clearly. I remember "And Your Bird Can Sing" being featured and always sounding great. One thing those cartoons did is forever taint the great song "I Call Your Name" for me - in this specific cartoon episode, Ringo has a pet frog named "Bartholomew", and after he loses this frog, they play "I Call Your Name" as he's looking for it. So every time Lennon sings "I call your name..." in the song, the cartoon Ringo shouts out "BARTHOLOMEW!" in response.  :)

And someone mentioned this aspect of the cartoons as well...and whether this ever happened or whether it is just a speculation or urban legend is something I've never checked out...but the cartoon Beatles plugged their guitar cords directly into the wall sockets whenever they played a song. Someone, somewhere mentioned actual kids trying to plug guitars into their electrical wall sockets after seeing The Beatles do it on those cartoons, but I think it was more a joke than a real incident!

I don't remember the "Blackbird" clip, but I DO remember an American Bandstand clip from '67 that showed a stunned teen audience's reaction to the "Strawberry Fields" promo. A lot of negative comments about their appearance and the song. That was fascinating.

That was featured in the Anthology documentary.  I know what you mean; Dick Clark, rapping with these hip kids on what they think of The new sound The Beatles were doing...which would have been equivalent to playing them anything different ie. innovative, revolutionary, etc.  Imagine if Dylan had done a promo video for something from Blonde On Blonde...I would love to be able to see something like that.  BTW, did Dylan do any promo vid for BOB?

EDIT: I just thought of Eat The Document, esp. the scene with Dylan and Lennon riding together...oh, my. :)
