Title: "The Wich Stand" Post by: PongHit on November 12, 2010, 06:10:57 AM What's the deal with this unreleased track? Was it recycled into another song? Was it recorded in 1964, or '66? Why was it given to The Survivors, & why was their version rejected?
Title: Re: \ Post by: Christian on November 12, 2010, 06:39:52 AM "Wich Stand" (spelled Whitch on the AFM sheet) was recorded on August 5, 1963 at Gold Star Studios, along with "Girlie" and "Hot Harp" (featuring Maureen Love).

This song not only told another story the car-culture lifestyle, but more importantly immortalized the Thunderbird brand for generations. With the words Wich Stand prominently in the lyrics, would the song have also immortalized Googie architecture? Would Googie have become mainstream? What direction would this design style have taken? I would love to think that the song would have lengthened the life of Googie style and even expanded it into areas I can only imagine. I suppose I’m visualizing an alternate future but a plausible one, but only with the help of Brian Wilson. |
