At 1:22 is this Marilyn in the audience giving hand gestures to Brian about eye contact?

A fascinating observation!  Yeah, that's Marilyn, and Fred Vail two people to her left.

But who knows for sure what those gestures meant?  Maybe she was indicating he should move closer to the mic.  Then again, maybe it was an eye contact issue, way back in 1964.

I think Marilyn was talking abou the mic too.  How could he be making eye contact with 500 kids. 

They all seem to be chewing gum too, even the Lovester. 

The fact that Marilyn and Fred Vail and other early notables are in the audience in the Lost Concert film has been noted repeatedly, in a good many reviews, and dozens of posts regarding this film for the last 10 years or so. If you somehow missed that...yes Marilyn is giving a hand motion from her eyes to Brian's eyes, and she's basically saying "Don't Worry Baby"...I'm here. Brian had significant stage fright. He'd already avoided multiple tours and important concerts starting in 1963. There are a few points in this show where you can see Brian losing it a little bit, just momentarily...In My Room is one. And yes at most other points he performs well, obviously having fun at times. That's Brian. Marilyn was a good support system for Brian, but she couldn't be on all the tours etc... This moment shows how she instinctively knew when Brian needed a little support.

plus Al keeps yelling  to someone off to his right at 1:34 during some of the guitar solos notably "Surfin USA". Any ideas?

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say Al was riding separately from the other guys, and he was trying to make certain the busdriver didn't leave without him. 

I think Brian keeps looking over to Carl and Al to see where their fingers are on the frets so he will play the right notes.
Brian often does this throughout the entire "lost concert" performance so I assume he's just making sure he has it right.

This, sadly, is just a young, vibrant, fertile Al Jardine being about as rock and roll as a young, vibrant, fertile Al Jardine could be.....

Yeah, Carl starts singing off key and Brian keeps giving him that WTF are you doing look. Carl is obviously avoiding eye-contact with BW, but Al is doing a good job of not losing it. Later, when Carl was in charge of the live thing he was famous for giving musicians that same look.

I always thought Mike Love was the most out-of-key one on that song.

Sorry, it's early, I'm just up, first mug of tea only half drunk, the clocks went back an hour... but at first I read that as "Marilyn Rovell Giving Brian Head During Lost Concert???".  :o

Did you ever think of the fact that maybe, just maybe, not everybody has read 'a good many reviews and dozens of posts from the last 10 years'? Some people have just gotten into the BB's, and this is new to them. There isn't any reason to make a comment like that.

Over the past years, I've read about Marilyn in the footage, but had never seen her particularly. So I appreciate this thread for pointing her out for me.  :3d

Well... obviously yes...otherwise the question wouldn't have been posed and wouldn't need to be answered. My point was to emphasize that this question about Marilyn's presence has been confirmed, solidly, for many years. I answered the question, and i also gave some insight into what was probably going on here with her hand motions...as well as summarizing some further context related to that. What did your post add to the conversation?

I've watched this footage before and spotted Marilyn because she's not one of the screaming ones. It's funny how she's about the same age as the other girls in the audience but has enough poise to keep Brian going via gestures and eye contact. I agree that she's not saying, "Look at the audience," but "Don't worry about them; look at me, and I'll keep you calm."

and that is very cool; that she could, and it would work for Brian.
