I'd never even though about this before but yes, now you mention it it does sound like Cartman! Terrible song though, IMO the worst song they did during the 60's.

I agree. Though I think the song is great and very, very underrated. I was probably discovering the greater Beach Boys catalogue in the very early 00's whilst still at high school. At the same time I was getting into bands like the Strokes. I had read reviews online that said How She Boogalooed It was utter crap, but I loved it. It seemed to fit in with all the other new music I was getting into.

Thank God this isn't another Al vs. Carl thread.  I was gonna throw something if it was.

Everyone knows it's neither Al nor Carl, come on. Every Beach Boys song is sung by Brian!

I hear that Chef can be heard faintly on this but it was mostly wiped because he kept going on about big chocolate salty balls and Brian was not in the mood to hear this kind of unhealthy food talk.

I'd kill to hear Brian's version!

As for "How She Boogalooed It", I love it and think it's very underrated.

I know he doesn't actually say this but Carl sounds like he's saying "come on, f*** it, sock it to me!" at the very end of the last verse. Or maybe he is slurring it to let him say it but have it be nigh-indecipherable...  8)

Wasn't that: '...shock it to me!'?

Just asking, you know.

I must be in the minority who like the song, especially the organ break. Never thought it sounded like Cartman, but do now. Thanks for that.

Oh, WH as a whole is satisfying. But I can't stand the production. Tinny, monaural, narrow bandwith. In fact, when I and my brother made the first mobile phone set ever (2 soup cans and a 10 ft wire), our conversations sounded like WH.

This is extremely common in animated serieseseses - watch a first season episode of the Simpsons and compare it to a fourth or fifth season episode, for instance.

True but isn't funny how you never noticed it at time from episode to episode? Only years later during monster boxset marthons! See also Family Guy (Lois much less nasal in s1), Futurama (Bender & Professor change voices between s1 & s2). Every character in The Simpsons has a had a voice change or character mannerism shift except Bart & Lisa since the early days.

Eh - you don't notice it because it usually happens in a subtle way over time. Half the voice actors probably don't even notice it until watching an older episode. Homer Simpson, yes, but many others, it wasn't intentional. People just get more comfortable with their characters, I guess.

Yes, because I'm sure that Cartman, since '97, has been voiced by a pre-pubescent teenager  ::)

I've probably seen 4 entire shows....it's funny, but it is crude humor. I'd much rather pop in Airplane or The Burbs for a good laugh.

From Wikipedia:

Although he had originally voiced Cartman without any computer manipulation, Parker now does so by speaking within his normal vocal range with a child-like inflection. The recorded audio is then edited with Pro Tools, and the pitch is altered to make the voice sound like that of a fourth grader. Parker says to achieve the effect of Cartman's voice, he simply uses the same technique when voicing Stan while "adding a lot of fat to it".

Sorry SiP.flac....nearly every post I've read of yours lately has had, what seems like, a sarcastic/negative vibe to it...

I suppose AGD is right: if you don't put an emoticon after a joking statement on this board people will never know if you're serious or not  ;D

I've noticed in the last couple of seasons that Cartman whines a lot more than he used too..."You guys still think I'm coooooool". Honestly, as much as I love South Park, I could do with less Cartman...kill him off and have Towelie permanently take his place!

By the way, does anyone know who is the song's main architect? Judging by the über-hip acid youth speak of the lyrics I suspect they are mainly by Mike, but who came up with the music? Joint credit, I know, but who composed the main body of the song? Carl?

What I want to know is who came up with the original title, Good Lord How She Boogalooed It, and why /how it got shortened.
( hope I don't have to wait two years for a good answer)

I love how in Will and Grace's first season, Megan Mully slowly raises the pitch of Karen's voice each successive episode until it morphs into that infamous nasal wail that seems to be the magic ingredient for success in many tv shows (and some Californian band you may have heard of :lol)

It hasn't been quite two years, but does anyone have more info, at all, on the original title?  I can find four references to it: the 11/15/67 session logs in Badman, this post (which I imagine was based on the same), a Twofer track list on a Beatles fan site (http://beatleshelp.net/collabo/bea.html), and, the reason for my curiosity, the Capitol Stereo-Pak (4 track) tape that I own.

Song title changes are a very, very common thing, but seeing it on the Muntz tape makes it seem like a last-minute change, one that I figured would be well-documented and oft-mentioned (especially with the drama over the  "God Only Knows" title.)

So, anyone?

Only a guess, but my guess would be that "Good Lord, How She Boogaloed It" is a bit awkward and doesn't flow as nicely as "How She Boogaled It". That could be the why. As to the who and the when, I have absolutely no idea.

Thanks for the reply c-man.

The explanation I kept landing on was that it was simply transposed from the track master during the banding, but from Desper's description of the WH mixdown process (e.g. re-amping onto the final two track), it doesn't seem likely that Muntz would have done a separate banding process for the 4 track (although the reel release does have noticeably different fades, the most obvious being "Darlin'", which doesn't fade out until after the lyrics from the second chorus ["I was living like..."] come in, exposing the technique of copying and splicing single run-throughs chorus/verse backing tracks.)

I guess a combination of WH's short recording schedule and the presumably increased lead time of a third-party manufacturer (also, Capitol's spectacular attention to detail) could explain how a provisional title would make its way onto the slick.

Man, Occam's razor is no fun...

Funny, I was just about to start a thread about this song. I'd love to hear a fan-mix with Carl's vocals at the slowed down "natural" speed. I imagine the whole song would have to be slowed down. I've never listened to the 1966 Caroline No since the PS box set was released. I know originally released versions are the definitive versions as determined by the band at the time, but I prefer hearing their natural voices. (Be here in the morning excepted, for some reason that works for me as a nice effect).
